    They are cooling towers not chimneys. Great footage from inside. I think it cools the water for the steam turbines used to generate the electricity. 👍

    The Houses of Parliament are in need of urgent repair and parliament is looking for a new home during the repairs, these would be ideal, just bring in some folding chairs and Bob's your Uncle.
    One for the House of Commons and one for the Lords, bung the Civil Servants in the others.
    The bonus is that the towers will once again function as intended, funneling all the hot air away.

    Awesome footage of my local landmark 👍👍 The two empty towers are ftom Willington A station and the other three were from Willington B station

    Aaah the last remnants of Willington A and Willington B power stations. They are the cooling towers that take the remaining heat from the steam turbine exhaust prior to returning the water to the river or back to the boilers to be reheated back to steam. Pretty much stripped out now, with just the concrete shells remaining. At 3:10 you can see the leftovers of the supports for all the sprinklers and wooden slats that formed the cooling system. It looks like the main feed pipe is still there running from the top into the centre. The water underneath is the cooling pond, where the cooled water collected before being returned to the river.

    Great short video. I remember when this place was active. Still drive past it all the time. I Grew up in Cannock so was used to seeing Rugeley Power Station but that has also gone. Not far from where you filmed is Ratcvliffe Power Station, Still a very active Coal Power Station. Drive past it every week. Keep up the good work

    Well, that's the safest possible way of flying out of line of sight. That said, it was pretty courageous to send a drone into what I assume are rebar concrete structures, trusting that it can get enough signal.

    I filmed Didcot Power station Cooling Towers with my Drone but they'd removed all the cooling elements at the base of the Towers so had no idea how they worked now I know TY for the upload DJ. I was working next to it Operating a 360 Excavator and filmed days before they Demolished the Station, Drove down to Didcot 6am the morning of the Demo, while still driving down the A34 I see the Towers come down (Gutted) So I had to insert the footage of Demo filmed by the BBC in the middle of my video. When they Demo'd the Towers at Didcot a metal Earthing strip that runs the length of the Tower fell across some power lines cutting the power to over 2700 houses in the area. which can be seen in my video.

    Surprised nobody from the local drone communities wasn’t there, it’s used by a lot of people flying FPV Drones.

    it's pretty dramatic watching these things being pulled down, but it would be "cool" if a few were left so that in a 1000 years people can think we worshipped giant cotton reels.

    Hi Dj, great vid as usual. Nice and smooth.
    Are you using the DJI app, or Litchi? If the former, give Litchi a try, much better - I’ve been using it with my Mavic for 4 yrs now and love it, especially the waypoint autonomous feature. I think this feature also works with the Mini 1.

  • @newsnowhamilton
    @newsnowhamilton 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Awesome views 😃!!! It was a coal station but the towers are indicative of nuclear. I worked in power gen in Canada most of my career and we don’t have those style of cooling towers. If the station has “towers” at all. They’re not really needed when your nuke plants are on some of the largest freshwater lakes in the world 🌎.
    We (Bruce Power) only recently (Kori, S. Korea-2020) became the second largest Nuke plant in the world (Bruce)… again 😐.
    Thanks for the fresh perspective 👍
