    Never be sorry for birds that sing in your garden. They are a joy in your beautiful garden.

      Yes I agree, which is the reason I no longer put on my ear pods. Listening to nature and birds chirping is so calming and relaxing. ❤

      I think they are a joy too, and my "regular birds" are used to me. (Some folks don't like it though.)

      So glad you enjoyed it! Every time I walk by that salvia bed, I marvel how large the salvia is.

    That delphinium is gorgeous! And thanks for the “heads” up deadheading the Mexican flame vine, mine is doing great!

      Thank you! I'm glad your Mexican Flame Vine is doing well too!!! I have not gotten the knack yet for dead-heading it though. Apparently I don't cut back enough of the stem that is flowering. I will be experimenting with that this year.

    I live in middle GA & I sure know what you mean by enjoying things as they bloom right now because come July everything gets fried. lol The flowers this time of year look so fresh & vibrant. Your garden looks wonderful. I bought some PW pink bubblegum petunias this year & planted them around a border. Can’t go wrong with them. ❤

      I agree ... the Supertunia Vista Bubblegum petunias are SO vigorous and pretty! Your border will be an eye catcher. Do they last all summer for you in middle Georgia?

    On Sunday morning, I saw my first hummingbird go to the Mystic Spires Salvia & Blue Porter weed in the flowerbed near the house. In the afternoon, I saw a different hummingbird go to the cardinal climbers, David Verity Cuphea, & on the only coral honeysuckle bloom on the newly planted plant. I am absolutely thrilled. I wouldn't know about these plants without your videos! Thank you so much! Your flowers are amazing! I am wondering for your new flowerbed, what kind of dirt did you fill it with?

      You made my day! 🥰 It is so fun to hear about gardening successes! I am just thrilled you are seeing hummingbird activity on your blooms. I was wanting more hummingbirds in our yard and it wasn't until I started to learn about the plants and environments they thrive in and then I planted the plants which in turn brought the tiny bugs/gnats they love. Hummingbird feeders only go so far ... the specific plants are the secret sauce. 👍

      That is great to hear! Thanks for your comment. You are north of Houston (Conroe/Willis) and I am south of Houston, but you are 8b and we are 9b. That is 10 degrees in the winter. I didn't realize that, as I thought the greater Houston area was all zone 9. I hope you have a great garden this year! 😊

    I live in zone 9b Florida and my bubble gum petunia lasts all year. It’s going on the second year now. You r right about it being a monster grower. Mine has gotten as wide as 5’ wide! Wish I had as much success with the delphiniums. I love them, but they just handle the heat and humidity.

      @@ButterfliesNBirds how do you keep the birds from scattering seeds and thereby spreading weeds? I’m still dealing with weeds started by seeds from a bird feeder I installed a few years ago but ultimately took out.

    • @ButterfliesNBirds
      @ButterfliesNBirds  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Great question! I only purchase bird seed that doesn't germinate. It is a little more expensive, but so worth it to me because I then don't have the issue you describe. I also don't have a mess under the bird feeders ... double bonus! Now, I haven't solved the issue of squirrels bringing seeds and nuts into my yard and burying them ...

      @@ButterfliesNBirds wow! I didn’t even know that was an option. Thank you!

    • @ButterfliesNBirds

      A lot of bird seed from big box stores has a lot of "filler" in it that most birds don't even eat, but it sure sprouts and makes a mess once it is on the ground. You can still get bird seed from a big box store, a good one would be the sunflower hearts and chips. Look to see that it isn't old though. A lot of different birds like sunflower seed ... just don't buy the kind in the shells.

    Your salvia is taking off so well I’m amazed. I’ve got to get a Mexican Flame Vine. Did you buy that as a plant? Ever heard of someone growing it from seed? I just can’t find one here in Pensacola beach area

    • @ButterfliesNBirds
      @ButterfliesNBirds  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I do really like the Mexican Flame Vine. The butterflies are so attracted to the blooms. I bought mine as a large plant from my favorite nursery. They are very easy to propagate too. I'm not familiar about growing it from seed though.

    I saw beautiful Delphinium at Calloways and luckily the long check out line was a deterrent. Your garden inspires me to plant more! Have you had luck with Dahlia's and Liatris (gray feather) in Houston summers with little shade?

    • @ButterfliesNBirds
      @ButterfliesNBirds  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It was probably good you passed them by as they are just a spring flower down here. I typically don't purchase plants that don't thrive in our Texas heat and humidity. We have such a long growing season that I don't plant for spring flowers. I plant for winter and summer. But I do have an Asiatic lily that flowers in spring and now this delphinium. I don't plant Dahlia's (although I love the flowers 😍). I planted native Liatris (gray feather) last summer and all three plants bloomed beautifully. Unfortunately they weren't established plants when our excessive heat hit and I lost all three. I thought I had enough drip irrigation to them, but apparently I didn't because when I looked at the corms this spring there was nothing there ... only a shell.

    • @ButterfliesNBirds
      @ButterfliesNBirds  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      P.S. I also planted Liatris again this spring because I wanted to try again. I hope we have a better summer this year so they can get established.

    Im in league city tx. I just got a delphinium and was told it doesn't do well here? Any tips? Thanks

    • @ButterfliesNBirds
      @ButterfliesNBirds  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hello neighbor! Delphinium are definitely just spring plants down here as they cannot take our summers. I typically don't purchase plants that cannot flourish in our long and hot growing season, but I just couldn't pass this delphinium up for some spring gorgeousness. There was a person who commented on my post (or video) saying he successfully grew delphinium as a spring flower in The Heights. Think of when the Bluebonnets flower ... that is the time. Mine is still in it's pot and I'm not sure what I will do with it. I might move it to the back of my shade garden in summer and see what happens (e.g. if it will return next spring).
