This song was the most epic thing I had ever heard while playing a game to this point in my life and would just site there to listen to it, because... AWESOME IS WHY!!!
Sam Chaney I mean, it is totally fine that people like Super Nintendo more than the Sega Genesis, but that is because it is a little more advanced than the Sega. The console came out in the late 80s, so of course it may be a bit more linear than the Super Nintendo.
I know that I compared them unfairly, but the reason why I said Sega Genesis was better than NES is because of the fact that the SNES did not come out in the late 1980s like the Sega Genesis has. So really the only thing to compare the Sega Genesis to at the time of the system's release was the NES, _and_ there was still some games being made for NES by the time the Genesis came out.
Totally the superior title but the original Ecco laid a beautiful and necessary foundation. And thank god the "AWHAWHAHA" sound is reserved for deaths in Tides rather than EVERY HIT in Ecco 1.
I played it first, got used to that hearing that EEEEEEE noise only upon death. Went back later to play the original Ecco, which plays that sound every time you take any damage whatsoever. That fact alone stressed me out so much I couldn't finish the game.
it;s so underrated and i hate it :c as hard as it was, it had amazing graphics and music of that time. i'm sad we never got anymore Ecco games after Defender of the Future.
This is the perfect boss music. The slow intro until the bass slaps, I introducing danger, and reveals the enemy. There's little boss music that compares to the thematic intro to Tube of Medusa.
This was the biggest missed opportunity of the CD soundtrack. I prefer the CD soundtrack over the cartridge, however why they didn’t remix this gem for is beyond my comprehension.
I love this track. The calm, ominous start, then broken by the intensity and insanity from something you absolutely cannot fight back. You're going to die. A LOT. I doubt I'll find another video game track that can match that feeling. This needs proper remixing for modern time's sake :3 .
You want to know the most *disrespectful* part? That giant big tentacly thing isn't even after you to eat you. It just tosses you outside like you're some garbage! Like _"here, get lost and let gravity do the rest!"_
Fun Fact: This specific song on the Genesis actually uses both the 6th FM channel and the DAC channel because the FM channel plays noise briefly while the DAC isn't playing anything.
This song used to make me feel uneasy when I was a kid XD This sounds like a timer limit type of music; like hurry up and finish the level before the timer's up; even though Ecco has none of that XD;
JayFoxFire That's actually the best way to beat the level. You rush past it, and it's never able to catch back up with you. Level is done in like 15 seconds.
Nazband Renart et Rezius There is a saying about poor craftsmen blaming their tools... :p haha No, it certainly took me a bit of practice to reach that point, and a lot of falling into the abyss.
I've never really had any issues with the Genesis's controller, personally. But oh my God, was this level infuriating! The damn thing always caught up no matter how fast you went, and Ecco turns like a tank. Still love this game, though.
Worst thing about that level was if you got thrown off you'd get sent back 2 levels & would have to go back through that f@#$ing sky tube level all over again!
The glyph blocking the way back up to Tube of Medusa remains open briefly (there's an audible tone while it is) so if you get back up there quickly, you can try again right away :)
I think this is my favourite piece of music from the Mega Drive. The excitement it instilled in me was almost too much for my young mind to handle. And it so perfectly suited the level.
I remember waking up for work around eleven, and realizing this song was stuck in my head. I decided then I NEEDED it. I was humming it all day. If I get a band going, this is the first thing we're covering!
I've had nightmares waking up to this song in the middle of the goddamn open ocean, and I immediately start swimming for my life...terrifying, I always woke up freaked out.
"So it's just more jellyfish, right? Man, I'm always running into those. Cool music, though--OH DEAR LORD, I'VE ANGERED THEIR QUEEN! SWIM, ECCO! SWIM BEFORE IT TAKES ITS REVENGE!"

this was pretty much where little 6-7 year old me stopped playing because i could NEVER get passed that goddamn fucking medusa bastard. music is kick-ass though
NO I DIDN'T yeah the bass riff if pretty solid on that part, but as it wasn't composed by shinji hosoe it lost its way after that, but well, what can u expect from echo the dolphin eh? XD
Arrgh I remember that evil jellyfish chasing you on this level and having to swim really fast to escape. I also remember the funny bubbling noises it made when it caught you!
Yeah! I found that interesting when I looked that up. :) At first I thought Novotrade was a French developer, but then I took a second look at the names of the composers and realized I couldn't place the nationality. They were unfamiliar sounding names so I was curious...
Why does that drop at the beginning of the song cause me to literally break out into sweats. I've wasted too much time yelling at that damn jellyfish that I think it's conditioned my body to feel anger the moment I hear this song.
This level was my BANE! I spent countless hours trying to beat it. Still haven't. Still remember the level code too. I think. IEGFUHZA. Damned jellyfish....
I had such a hard time with this stage!!! I wonder if i can get my old genesis back from my parent's house and see if it still works so i can try it now that im 37 lmao!
25 years of playing this game and I can never still beat it and I think its more easier than the first ecco the dolphin this was back when games were more challenging this was one of them for sure it's more than a reality nightmare I think what stumped me was the level where you had to find the missing dolphins little pod in that giant maze cave about halfway into the game but it is a really fun game to play I of course have it when I have the patience to play it again i will and with no save ability

I can't tell you how energetic this soundtrack is. Tides Of Time is pretty much the superior game in the series. Who's with me?
I agree. Lol I came here to get links to argue for Genesis being superior in sound to SNES in an AVGN video that I just saw you commenting in.

Amen to that!
This game is disgustingly underrated and I'll probably be saying that until the day I die
it;s so underrated and i hate it :c as hard as it was, it had amazing graphics and music of that time. i'm sad we never got anymore Ecco games after Defender of the Future.
Yeah
Thank you Sans Undertale.
28 years later. Still a BANGER!!!

Someone said to the level designers "Pfft, bet you can't make a rockin' level with just a jellyfish..."
...Oh how they laughed!

Its not a jellyfish its Medusa
@@Aj-me8mo Fun fact: in Russian, "medusa" is the word for jellyfish

Dinker27 yeah I found out a few weeks ago lol I guess I have no choice but to admit I was wrong this time haha
Genesis+sky tubes+ this song x Giant Unkillable Sky Kraken= why my childhood felt a bit more epic
I love that turtle in the picture. He's all like "Yeah i'm a turtle, and what are you gonna do about it?"
"Hey Sega, bet you can't make a bad ass game with just a dolphin and a jellyfish!" ;)
***** Famous last words.
Sega: Hold my beer.

"We'll also make it hard as frick."
The first "why do I hear boss music" ever.
The best song of the game
Title theme is amazing so nah
I get Trellia's Bay and Time Travel in my head a lot more often than Tubes of Medusa, but it's still a banger.
My favorite song in the game, other songs kinda sad, mysterious but kinda cool. This song stood out with more energy.
thank you uber for yet another banger of a ost
... Did they... Deliver?
shit son... i will never forget this game and that music... epic.
Wow, I love this energetic vibe and rockin' rhythm.

the sega CD version was great too, BUT, man would I have loved for them to have just redone the cart version with proper instruments :(

Damn right 0 dislikes. Noone comes here unless they know and respect the godliness of this games existence.
If someone dislikes this song they hate everything that is good and awesome in life

where did all the great composers go, music like this is sadly missed
great composers still exist. You're just not looking in the right places.
One of my all time favourite game tracks. This brings back not only memories but just goes really hard.
