- Not 1, but 2 Connor Bedards? We even found Gritty? These boxes were awesome! We found some mega, blaster, and hanger boxes at our local Meijer's, so we had to pick up 2 of each. Is 2023-24 Upper Deck Series 2 hockey worth the hype? We think so, but what box is the best to open? Let's take a look at the retail boxes and which one is best for the money. The only problem is that you are going to have to find them quick, because the scalpers and flippers are out in full force!

Dude, seriously, NOT trying to burst your bubble but Matt Murray is NOT EVEN CLOSE to being highly rated, sought after.....Maybe you're thinking of the old 2 time Cup winner with the Pens, the ONLY MATT MURRAY who was at one time, any good.
Whoever is opening this product retail is mostly from Michigan. HockyTown.
Just from watching other videos here on TH-cam, it looks like there are a ton of non-hockey fans also opening the product which is always nice to see! Not fun competing for product, but when there is a chase, it attracts everyone in the hobby! Thanks for watching!
The second or third day of series 2 release I bought 2 packs out of a hobby box and pulled a Connor Bedard silver outburst. Came back a grade 9

The Matt Murray card is not even listed in the new Beckett ...As far as him being highly rated...ummmmmm no
Thanks for your input. I collect goalies, didn’t mention it in the video. I watched this Matt Murray play at UMass, and before that at Fargo in the USHL. He is doing ok down in Texas, nothing special but has gone .500 this year, save percentage just dropped below .900, so that isn’t that great. Never said he was the next Roy or Brodeur, but I celebrate goalies. It’s rare I don’t like a tendy, you have to be Chad Biddington! Sometimes it is just awesome to see a guy get his Young Gun and get a run of cards!
The reason he originally caught my eye is because of his name. I am a Wings and Pens fan (I know it is weird), but being a fan of the Pens Matt Murray, it’s unique to have two goalies with the same name, given that there aren’t a lot of goalies compared to players in the show. I always felt awful that this Matt Murray can’t stay healthy and has to deal with Leaf fans. He is a great dude and unfortunately his career went the other way after his pops passed away.

Where did you get your cards from?
I got these from Walmart, however they only stocked them for a week and they never got any more of them in after the initial batch.

I took a shot on two retail boxes that come with an oversized YG in each. Got an oversized YG Bedard in the first, an oversized Poitras in the other. Overall I've been extremely happy with the retail boxes. Fantastic pull ratios

Red Wings got embarrassed at an away game where the Detroit fans outnumbered the Yotes fans (or at least 50/50).
The rookie from this set that'll end up having a great career is Fantilli. Those Michigan guys develop in some of the best players on their teams. Werenski, Larkin, Connor. Voronkov is in his first year in the league and top 3 in scoring for rookies. Probably because Bedard and Fantilli were injured and missed time.
Fantilli has all the tools to be a star in the league, and yes I agree that the U of M has put some great talent into the NHL over the years. Growing up as a Michigan fan, it was always awesome to see so many of the guys I watched make it to the show! Turco, Morrison, Cammalleri, Knuble and then everyone in between, there have been some great players and continue to be!
Red Wings might be in trouble if they can't get a win soon. Larkin being out has been more problematic than people assumed. Hopefully they can figure it out, but they have given up the cushion they had going into last week in the wild card race. Thanks for watching!

I haven't seen any Series 2 in stores since the first week it was dropped! I feel bad for the kids that want to collect some hockey cards and have 0 chance because scalpers and flippers take everything the day they are dropped!
Curious is series 2 the best young gun Bedard cards to go after ? What about other upper deck cards or other brand with Bedard rookie cards ?
There aren't really any other brands when it comes to hockey that are licensed other than Upper Deck, so not a lot to choose from. The Young Guns are hockey's true rookie cards and have been around since the early 90s, so the value of the top rookies normally hold their value over time depending on the player. The hardest part is finding the product right now because of the fact that Bedards sell for so much right now, non-hockey collectors are buying the product up on top of the resellers and flippers. It's a hard game to play right now if you collect cards! Thanks for watching!

Thoughts on cgc grading the bedard yg rather than psa?
This is only my opinion, but I would grade PSA. PSA has such a large portion of the grading market, it is almost becoming the standard for grading. However, even with saying that, I fully understand why people choose to grade elsewhere whether it be price, grade time, or to match the other cards in their collection. PSA is more expensive in most cases takes longer, but for long term value you can't go wrong with PSA. Thanks for watching the video!
Appreciate it. I think for people who primarily use epack that they are starting to use cgc a lot more. They grade tougher than psa, cheaper and faster. Seems mostly a brand name thing with psa
