Boksburg has less a relationship with Boks, and more of an association with boks(boxing). Famous for bar room brawls and alcohol abuse (tongue in cheek of course, just in case any Boksburg residents are reading this and I am getting too old to fight 🤣). Jokes abound about Drikus du Plessis, the UFC middleweight champion, being number 1 in the world, but still only number 6 in Boksburg.

When gold was discovered in and around Johannesburg the entire area was called the Witwatersrand (white waters ridge), divided into the East Rand and West Rand. Looking at a map of Jo'burg, the East Rand lies to the right and the West Rand to the left. The West Rand includes towns (or small cities) such as Krugersdorp, Roodepoort, Westonarea, Carletonville, Fochville, Randfontein and Soweto. The East Rand includes towns (or small cities) such as Alberton, Edenvale, Boksburg, Benoni, Brakpan, Springs and Nigel. The furthest town to the east is about 70 kms from Jo'burg central and to the west about 30 kms. Boksburg is about 20 kms to the east and has just about grown into one big city together with Edenvale (closest to Jo'burg) and Benoni (furthest from Jo'burg). Boksburg was named after the State Secretary of the South African Republic, W. Eduard Bok, in the late 1800s. In rugby terms, the old Eastern Transvaal was made up of the teams from the East Rand (today called the Pumas and stretching about 400 km to the far east of the country). The old Transvaal (Lions) cover Jo'burg proper and the West Rand.

The ‘away’ jersey is actually referred to as an ‘alternate’ kit. Made sense when an opposition had traveled far for a game or a series they use their kit and if there is a kit clash the home team would use an alternate kit as they more than likely had one in the locker room. The term away has made its way over from football. If anything it doesn’t matter too much as long as the kit looks good😂

    What is a "home" jersey?
    2024:.......
Seems These days we don't know what anything is anymore.
The whole point of referring to a jersey as either "home" or "away" is that one you wear playing at home is referred to as "home"and the other one you wear playing away is referred to as "away" or "alternative" , like literally the alternative to the home version when your not playing at home .
Now you play at Home in a "away" jersey and the team coming from overseas is wearing their at home jerseys, just because some people in a tournament up north didn't understand the difference 😂.....
