Model shows are the best, my only problem there not long enough lol. I'm with you Luca, I take a ton of models to a show. Make it worth your wile. Billy has a great channel.
I love going to shows for the community and conversation. When I enter its always a "If I win, awesome. But if I lose that's fine too." Each show has their own favorite styles and ways of judging. What kills at one show might not even place at another.
I got up the other day and started to go thru my models and just to see what my 60 year collection had become. 574 models kits built and unbuilt. It took me 3 days to count them and made a record of them. I seen some that I forgot about that I even had. I have entered a few contest over the years and won a first place and third once and wondered how I won, and why I didn't. You guys are on the money with this discussing. I felt like you were talking about me. Thanks
Once I went to my first show I went from a casual builder to someone that builds all the time. Its not about the competition for me, its about the fellowship with others. I enjoy the hobby and the people in the hobby. I go to shows to meet people and talk shop. I agree, if you are building and you are not going to shows, your missing out. Great discussion Luka and Billy.
Great vid guys the question was spot on. I try to build better everytime with paint,3d P/E or whatever I choose to use. Shows are worth the miles and money spent, to look and ask questions from other builders. My first 3 videos watched was Luka Cee, Mark 007 and Matthew at MCV. Have met Mark and Matt and hope to meet Luka at ACME this year. I appreciate the content that's put out from all the content creators. If I didn't discover this group on TH-cam probably wouldn't have built anything. Much appreciated to all.... Weasel
Enjoyable video. Each build I do is for ME, if it wasn't I would have any enjoyment for it. However I watch lots of TH-cam model channels, I subscribe to quite a few Facebook groups, I listen to a fair number of scale model podcasts and I usually pickup up something from every one of them. I have only been building for about 5 years and have built around 7 models. I like to take my time and enjoy the build, so I dont do them fast. Every build I can see what I did wrong and what I shouldn't do next time. I can see the improvement in each build.
great show guys!!! thanks Luka for the content and "Doctor Strange" love your channel man, great add to the community. More moyo for my building life. If you ask me about building for yourself? I say I build for all of us, that's why we share and have you tube channels and go to shows. If you are literature build for yourself and dont care about anyone else, you for sure are very private about it and no one knows what you do.
I am realizing more and more how much of an outcast stance I have about my model building each time these discussions come up lol. End result is all I care about, the process is just a means to an end, a lot of times it's not even enjoyable 😬. Good discussion! Interesting takes.
I have so many ideas in my head of cool vehicles to build. My notebook has over 200 ideas in it. This is the best outlet given my skills and budget (vs drawing, building 1:1 etc). I just like seeing them come to life, and I, like Billy, try to add to my skills as well. I do enjoy when others like my ideas too, we've all got a little showoff in us 😂
I had to watch a second time, because this is such great discussion. I don't have any shows near me, but I plan to travel to one a year, just to meet everyone. I get your point on the R-word paint, the issue is not the message, it's the delivery. Very few folks in the FB group have any tact, or at least the loudest voices don't, and it causes hard feelings. Unfortunately, I don't know the fix. Keep it up you two, you're doing awesome things for this hobby!
Matt to your point about community - one of the highlights of being in PHX was being able to attend club meetings and actually talking with guys who love this hobby. It has absolutely supercharged my love for model cars and encouraged/ inspired me for so many builds. It is also why I searched for clubs in the area when we moved to CO. I am really happy with how much this hobby has come together as a community (mostly due to technology) I spent so much time not knowing others that built personally as Billy said, building alone - the community has become a place to share experiences, techniques and stories. It really is a great time to be a model builder!
Well that was cool, as always you guys are a great team....I have never been to a model show but planing on going to the Modelzona in Phoenix on the 1st on Feb...that said I was not planing on taking any of my models, now I'm rethinking that...hope to meet some of you there. and to "Luke Cee" I will always be grateful to you for giving me the push I needed to start building models again...Cheers all
I also build for me, but I like to let the model tell me how it wants to be built. I know that models are inanimate objects, but there is something about those pieces of plastic that communicates with me. I may have an idea of what direction that I might go with a model, but I enjoy seeing what the end result morphed into.
@@TheLukaCeeChannel I just finished my Model A Plane and will be showing at my first model show in March. I'm so excited! Thanks again to you and Billy for encouragement!
Wow, where to begin 😂 I build for me and I build for others in that, I like to see the expression on the viewers face and or their comments And I have entered contests many years ago. I won a 2nd place trophy in a hobby town contest and a 4th place ribbon at an NNL put on by the K. C. Slammers and at that point I knew that my game was improving and every model after that I would always try better than the one before Fast forward to now and my circumstances don't allow me to enter any contest, but im still striving for excellence because I hooked on this hobby contest or no contest 😂 When i shuffle off this mortal coil im gonna miss seeing people's jaws drop as they admire what i have done Getting off my soapbox now 😂 It's only plastic! Do what your kit tells you to do, and you'll never go wrong
‘I build for me’ simply means that my builds do not require validation from strangers that have been labeled ‘judges’ of my work. I don’t care if they like it, I don’t know them and I don’t need them to tell me if it came out well enough for them. I care if I can make a build well enough to display with my other builds for the people that I do know can appreciate what went into it. There are guys on the various pages that I enjoy sharing builds with, and we inspire each other. After watching this discussion, I just might bring some builds to some upcoming shows, because sharing them with other builders is part of the fun.
@@idotroger88 I am glad to hear that. It's more about the community of modelers then the validation by the judges. When I look back at all of the shows I've gone to over the past 35 some years. Building turns into collecting. Then collecting turns into a separate hobby😅
