    51 years old next week?!
Does Canada use some sort of metric system for age? Because you both look like the mid to late 30s to me.
Thank you, Marty, for once again bringing us along.
    I always enjoy the journey.
    Happy hiking!

It’s a great day or overnight. I did it a couple of times 15 years ago...to much traffic today. On a hot day, to jump in that lake...wow! It’s cold.

Marty, I am a big fan from Ontario. Thanks for all your videos, which inspire me to go outside and push it more. I can only wish we can repeat this hike with my wife when we are 51!!! Kudos to Karen, she is a beautiful lady. Good luck with all your future trips! Please keep up.

Great video Marty! Your wife is a trooper! That climb up to the lake looked like it wasn’t exactly easy. But what a beautiful place to be able to see. Thanks for your hard work. I’m looking forward to seeing you next adventure.

I just posted a new video of this lake yesterday. Is that why you viewed this older video, or is it just a coincidence? The new video shows more of the area above the lake.

Went back there this weekend (Sept 1-2, 2019). I have a new appreciation for this lake. It was so nice camping at the back of the lake and exploring the area. I'll go back again. Watching this, I'm so impressed with my wife. Crossing that creek was no easy feat.

What a hike! Hats off to you both. Making it up to the lake is quite an accomplishment. Thanks for videoing it too - also a real feat while climbing the cliffs. I appreciate you "carrying" me along. The beauty up there is exquisite and wild. I know I will never make it.

Awesome hike. My wife and I are preparing for a 12 mile loop day hike in Rocky Mountain National Park Colorado with an accent of 12,000+ Hallett peak. Three thousand foot elevation gain. Three alpine lakes. Straightforward hike with no technical. Not sure my wife would do the chain climb, but it really looked fun. Really enjoyed the video. Thanks for sharing.

Last night my wife and I were talking about doing a cross country trip through the USA. I think it would be fun to ask all my subscribers for a good suggestion for a hike in a dozen or so states. We could do a little tour next summer and make a video of hikes down south.

    • @Martyupnorth

The shortest overnight destination I can think of are Glacier Lake in Banff (8 km each way), Kinglet Lake near Nordegg (6 km each way but very steep), and Big Bend in Jasper. Short hikes are rarely spectacular and often extremely crowded.

I've been following your channel for a year or so and enjoy your experiences.
If I may comment on your last one to Carnarvon. I've hiked this one at least least 8 times. Late 90's, early 20's.
I made the hike once a year, at times two, with 4 and 6 . and stayed up there for 3 to 4 days
The crossing in spring can be treacherouss. In August and September the river is less than half that and a depth between ankle and knee.
The route you chose was difficult. Your wife is defintly a trooper. Most hikers cut up hill and take the path across the scree.
Taking that route brings you half way up the falls, but you still need to use the chain, but a lot less of it.
It's always windy at the location where you came up. The real jewel of the trip, and that makes it worthwhile, is at the other end of the lake. You showed a quick shot of it and made a brief comment. It is like a little oasis. Sheltered, good tent spots with a beautiful view. That makes that trip with a backpack worthwhile. I love that place, and really grateful that we live in a part of the world that allows us access to such beauty. Sorry for rambling..

    • @Martyupnorth
      @Martyupnorth  6 ปีที่แล้ว

Thanks. This was definitely a reconnaissance hike. I'll be back there for sure. Same with Loomis Lake. As for the difficult route, that was an accident. I completely missed the cut across. I saw it, but though it was just someone laying rocks on the trail to prevent water erosion. Funny how sometimes we over-think a situation. No harm done. All the hikes on the south side of the Highwood have many river and creek crossings. The hike to Loomis is particularly frustrating that way. Cheers.

Oh my word, that scramble up the slope with the chain was super sketch and made me break out in a cold sweat. Especially at the end where your foot slipped a little. yokes. Beautiful though and hopefully worth the hard labor in the end!

He also climbed up the rocks in waterfall alone, his wife did it from other side of the waterfall. Dynamic of the marriage, uh ??? :) Anyway I liked that hike, beautiful scenery

We've been married 20 years and have 4 kids together. I'd say I'm pretty helpful. I was carrying the tent, the food, the stove, the fuel, the first aid kit. What else would you like me to do? I also know Karen's capabilities. I was concerned, that's not the same as scared or fearful.

This was a great video. If you ever want to go to a place similar to these tarn lakes that is equally as remote, I would highly recommend checking out a place called Junction Lake, near the Sheep River. The path up the valley is almost never used. Might we see a Castleguard Meadows video from you sometime this season?

Have you ever considered getting an Ursack or bear can for your food, I understand your thinking that it's mostly habitualized bears that are the problem but they all start some where. Beautiful lake, the climb up isn't for the faint of heart. 46:11, she sure is.

She's out on a cliff, probably nervous, and she's still thinking about our kids. Nowadays she talks about grandkids, even though we still have 2 of our 4 kids still at home. She's going to spoil those grandkids whenever they come for a visit.

You guys are a bit scary. Missed a major turn, on loose rock scrambling quite close to each other - helmet? Gloves for the chain? Also put you boots on or in your pack so you have both hands free in the event of a swim. Watch you video and think about how to stabilize and slow down your pans across the river or scenery: very quick and jerky. Please use this as constructive and for safety - good for you for getting out there and making the trip.
