The 'little boy" who he beat up is the strongest character in the show. He's the literal protagonist. They are friends but he needed to "put him down", I forgot why but I believe it was because he couldn't control his power for a little bit. Escanor almost didn't put him down but because his power became the strongest at noon, which was luck , he won. In general though the protagonist, Meliodas, is stronger.
I completely understand what you’re saying but all I can think of is this fight I saw in my friends hood😂 it started right at noon and when the dude lost he said “the sun was in my eye” 💀

Idk man, in the final season after melidos unlocks all of his power, he still gets his ass kicked by his father and escanor defeats him solo and in the process dies too.

now, to clear up some confusions:
* Escanor, the sin of PRIDE, has the name GLUTTONY written on the door of his tavern. that's how much he loves Merlin, the sin of Gluttony.
* Ludociel the archangel is a dude, but he took over a chick's body (princess Margaret).
* Escanor's magical power isn't orginally his, but Mael's (another archangel as you saw). cause of harsh circumstances, said Mael lost that power- and 3000 years later Escanor recieved it from birth.
* and because Escanor is still a mere human, his body eventually got to the point of not being able to handle the Sunshine power. that's how man's died. though we don't know exactly if Mael got it back to him
