I come back to this video every so often, and it's been for the last 7 or 8 years. I will now edit and add a comment from now on, once a year, every year, for the rest of my youtube life. Starting with todays date and my age 26/7/23 - 40 years old.
what I love about this whole thing is it focuses only on the musical abilities- no sound editing no recording studio. just real and raw musical ability. love
I watched this when it first came out many many years ago and have held it in my heart ever since then. Tonight I played it for my child for the first of many times to come. You still make me smile even after all this time. Thanks for the memories.
Aloe Blacc - This song straight killed me bro. I felt this from the core of my soul, my friend. Thank you. This is damn real music that feeds the heart and soul people...And, I never comment
Never realized there was a second part to this. Have always said Aloe Blacc reminded me of a modern day Bill Withers, so it was cool to see them play 'Use Me'. Bill had that same effortless singing voice, feeling, tone, and range.
I downloaded this album for free just to listen to it, and even though I already have it, I'm going to purchase it bc I want this talented man to continue making music for us.
The shot of his face as the camera follows him from 9:45 - 9:58, is an amazing shot. Him just scanning the crowd until he finally turns his back. Gave me chills
Wow! Such an interesting set up during this wonderful live performance from one of my favorite artists and now one of my favorite production collectives because the concept behind this setting was superb! The musicians playing the instruments took center stage whilst the audience and passersby literally had to travel THROUGH the music to get wherever they were going which made for a simple yet wonderful sentiment and a nod to Aloe's greatness! The music, the great shots of city goers passing, joy on their faces, and the cool calm nature of Aloe's singing merely made this experience all the better. Thank you!
la blogotheque dvd box set with everything you've recorded by now. and with every half a year or so a new edition comes out. i'll so be buying it. it's quite impossible to do that i guess, but in a perfect world... thank you so much for your work. ♥
How are people just walking past this? I would stop in my tracks, and just take it in. I can't imagine much being too important to take a few minutes to take in beautiful music.
So Beautiful songs, voice, music, and work for the sound in the middle of the crowd in Saint Michel ! It must have been a lot of background sound around ! Beautiful work ! Bravo !
I just don't understand the people in that subway who are in too much of a rush to stop and enjoy this beautiful song, but I bet they don't smile enough.
I love the shooting with "You Make Me Smile." It's exactly how it is to be in love. All you see is a sea of bodies, but you have a private, happy music with you.
Great performance. Great production. The key effect ot this video is the natural reactions of the passers-by to the band's performance. I suspect that some (or all) of the camera work was done on the sly. Cinéma vérité.
Been watching this video on a regular basis for almost 7 years now, still can't believe how effortless his voice comes from his mouth.
absolute facts
Same. It's so good.
A true time capsule.
Still watching since 2014
@@andersonmartins5930 same but since 2012

frrrr!!!
I love the fact that he just stands there singing such a soulful song so sincerely. It kind of beautifies the song even more.
Aloe Blacc - You make me smile. Live at a subway station. This man has one of the most powerful voices in today's music.
I watched this when it first came out many many years ago and have held it in my heart ever since then. Tonight I played it for my child for the first of many times to come. You still make me smile even after all this time. Thanks for the memories.

The Bill Withers cover is one of the best things I'ver ever seen. And I've seen a lot of good things.
The singer is the definition of swag.
This performance deserves a $50 bill from everyone walking through
Never realized there was a second part to this. Have always said Aloe Blacc reminded me of a modern day Bill Withers, so it was cool to see them play 'Use Me'. Bill had that same effortless singing voice, feeling, tone, and range.
Yo the singer is probably the most coolest black guy i ever met. Im a pretty chill black guy by nature but damn... He takes the cake... So smooth.
God damn he has a gorgeous voice.

I did not curse, I exclaimed by excitement at some music. Take your religious bullshit elsewhere.

I think this may be the best song of the 21st century, supremely beautiful, soulful and deeply heartfelt
Journies begin, journies end. People living their everyday lives. And it all makes me smile
i think this video captures more than just performance.. i like how anybody having a bad day can be walking past this and change there whole mood
The shot of his face as the camera follows him from 9:45 - 9:58, is an amazing shot. Him just scanning the crowd until he finally turns his back. Gave me chills

Wonderful video! Wonderful music!
Great singer. Ironic how he sings about smiling, but he is stoic the entire time.
Reminds me of "The Warriors" when they're walking through the subway! Performances can't get any more realer than these. Love 'em.
