"Americanitis," a new novel that reflects on, among other things, literary scholarship, more so, the place of literature in the contemporary. Strangely, I am immediately reminded of Don Quixote: its groundbreaking experimental approach toward genre (fiction) and inherited literary conventions, traditions. The way Don Quixote the first modern novel considers, plays with and subverts what we assume to be reality versus fantasy.

I'm just about to re-read some of the stories! I've only sampled the poems and I'm afraid his essays might frustrate me (to say the least), but I've been meaning to dive into the letters - as you'll know some consider them his actual masterpiece!

@TheBookchemist ST Joshi certainly agrees with that. I can recommend various collections, the letters to RH Barlow, published as O Fortunate Floridian show a very warm, supportive and almost paternal side to him. And the letters to J. Vernon Shea are amongst the liveliest batch I've read.
