Street Cat Rescue: Fetty + Storm

  • These two street kittens were already past the socialization window, but a serious upper respiratory and eye infection moved Fetty up to the front of the rescue line. And he didn't go anywhere without sister Storm, his protector and guardian! It can feel so overwhelming to be a new rescuer and TNR volunteer - where to start when you see cats everywhere? This was our experience in 2017, and we had no other help or volunteers. It was actually you - our supporters from around the world - who helped us get through a string of very expensive medical situations and inspired us to keep pushing. I hope you enjoy their story, because you are part of it. Stay tuned for part 2 later this year.

She knew how to use a litter box which is even more sad because that told us she was definitely dumped. We got her fixed up and got her some food, and I fell in love right away. She’s two years old now and is an absolute little love bug.

    Blind cats usually have a partner cat that they have with them. It's important they remain together, even if the sight is restored. Shadow, a cat with similar eye eyes, always had another cat, Ascott, follow him around. In fact, during a winter storm, they came into the house, guided by Ascott, instead of remaining outside. When the house had to be sold, the two were separated and Shadow's eyesight was restored, which stressed him out and turned the older cat into something else. Sadly, he escaped the home he was adopted to. This was over 9 years ago, and I'd like to believe Shadow lived a good life.
    As for Ascott, his guide cat? He's 16 years old and on my lap. Shadow was adopted before I got to the facility, and I had intended to bring them both home, but he's adapted to just having a house to himself.

      Can you contact an animal rescue organisation to approach the managers to allow one or more of their members to TNR if not back to your workplace, then to foster care, or become barn cats? Rescue organisations can partner together using the internet (using Google, Facebook, Instagram, phone calls, text messages, word of mouth) to bring the cats out of that situation. With great logistics, confidence (and prayer!), you can ensure a happy or at least, satisfactory ending. Good luck.

    This channel was part of the inspiration behind me feeding a stray singleton kitten in my yard since last august, and this january before the worst of winter could hit, we finally trapped her. I thought she might not socialize or adapt, but within a day she was a total lap cat and she got a double negative for FIV after a false positive, so as of two weeks ago, she's out of quarantine! She's about 10 months old now, and named Baby. Just this week she discovered the magic of cuddling and now takes them by force. Between you and Kitten Lady i learned so much about socializing feral cats and trapping and I wouldn't have been able to rehabilitate her the way I did without the knowledge you share. Thank you!

    “How poor are they that have not patience! What wound did ever heal but by degrees?”
    Thanks for all your loving patience, and all you do for community cats. These two beautiful cats are powerful advertisers for TRN. Kudos to the eye surgeon, Fetty's looks so handsome! My feral took three months to learn how to trust, then play (what a magical day that was). Well worth the effort, even if it takes three years!

    I wish I had the heart to foster cats when I am have the resources, but I just get too attached to my pets, I wouldn't want to let go of a poor kitten that I took home and loved for months and trust another person for its safety. I adopted Taliyah, my newest pet, 2 years ago after finding her on a fast food joint looking for food in trash cans and nowadays she is super obsessive over me, she cries when I am not there, and always looks out for me when I am doing housework.
    I really appreciate what you guys do because street cats (and abandoned/feral domestic animals in general) are a huge issue. Thanks for keeping them alive and healthy and having the heart to give these animals second chances when many others would not.

      You get desensitized. The first time is hard, but it gets better. Remind yourself that you can't keep 10+ cats in your home and they're better off adopted in another with more space.

    • @mircat28
      @mircat28 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Don't let your ego get in the way. You are not the only one who can love a cat. There are lots of people ready to pick up where you leave off and become the forever home. And after they do, you can save another life. There is ALWAYS another little soul waiting its turn to come in.

    • @f4ngdragon183
      @f4ngdragon183 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@mircat28 More than ego is just personal distrust for people, people put cats in the street, and people adopt them too, it's hard to distinguish actual genuine people from weirdos making an act or not taking stuff seriously. But you are right about the last part, as long as people have homes there will be pets ready to be taken in and cared for, I just wish I had more trust in people.

    • @f4ngdragon183
      @f4ngdragon183 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ayanp353 Yeah, currently I just keep 3 but you are right, thing is when it comes to people that want to adopt, I am not very welcoming to any, Taliyah came from a family in which one of the members was (allegedly) a veterinary and the family had so many malnourished cats, the vet instead of spaying them (allegedly) killed them, as a neighbor of mine told me that Taliyah's kitten brothers and sisters suddenly disappeared, and said family wasn't into giving the cats for adoption either, I got disgusted when I heard about it.

    Your videos inspired me to try to start helping feral cats in my neighborhood! I talked to my neighbors in my apartment building and we're going to try TNR on the cat colony in an abandoned building near us. We've partnered with the local animal shelter and we're hoping to make a dent in kitten season. Thank you! And wish us luck!

    My black kitty Roo roo was from a feral black cat colony of Washington dc , there where about 16 black cats and some greys my roommate at the time loved kitties and we decided to ban together with alley cat allies and help their TNR program by feeding and making winter shelters for the feral in out alley. over time of feeding some of the feral would let us even touch them! Then spring came and kitten season started , we fostered many litters and even decided to adopt , My roommate adopted 2 black kittens named them Bast and Lithi and I adopted the small black Runt kitten and named him Roo roo. Roo roo was special boy he was with me for 16 years he just passed away last spring He lived a long happy life and died peacefully at home with me next to him. I am so grateful for TNR programs . They are ease to get involved in and they always need volunteers so if you love cast its a great way to do amazing work to help these magnificent creatures!

    I live on about 3 acres out of town and people dump cats out here. I am now feeding two cats and have made a shelter for them on the patio. There is a pasture behind our back yard fence so the cats have a nice place to explore. My neighbor feeds a few dumped cats and the other neighbor traps cats and has them neutered or spayed and also feeds them. I love watching Flatbush Cats videos and admire the work being done and also contribute.

    I just went through this with a Mom, Dad and two kittens. No local TNR groups, no SNAP monies, so all vet bills are out of my pocket.
    All came back clean for FeVL and FIV, kittens had worms and fleas. The Mom extra spicy, wasn't in good physical health, and blood work came back she had 4-5 different parasites, very anemic and pregnant again. Dad was previously owned by someone (not aggressive) and dumped.
    I've gone from having two cats to 6, Mom in one bathroom until her blood work comes back clean, with Dad and the two kittens in a spare bedroom.
    I planned on keeping the kittens. I don't want the parents back outside where they'll be harmed, so we're going to give this a shot. I suck at fostering.
