As someone who has ridden both, I DEFINITELY recommend KLX250 for beginners. Very gentle power delivery, comfortable, and low seat make it very friendly. The WR250F on the other hand is a gnarly little thing when ridden fast so unless you are a very careful beginner, stay away.
I rode the wr250f it was nice!! you are right. was very linear and easy to ride like the klx250. I should have started with the wr250f since I do mostly trails
Then people are talking about short service intervals for hard enduro they don't only talk about oil and filters changes but also about piston replacement that you need to do every 40-60h.
Im not sure who is saying to change the piston every 40 to 60 hours but you dont need to. Even on my 2 stroke i change it every 200 hours and the cylinder and piston still looks good. Maybe a pro would change theirs every 50 hours but not your average person. And changing your oil and air filter should be done every 3 or 4 rides regardless if it is a dualsport or dirtbike if mostly offroading. Offroading puts a lot more strain on the bike vs street and changes the viscocity levels fairly quickly.
@@RWWRENTAL Yes, it is just official service intervals for 4t and you definitely doesnt need to replace piston at this intervals if you are not racing. So they depend on rider and usage. But even without races our local mx\hard enduro mechanics replace piston around 100h for 2 strokes or even before that. There is already some play and some amount of compression lost. And they recommend 100ish hours for 4t hard enduro. I doubt this numbers are somehow unique to our neck of the woods. And general attitude towards not rebuilding top end similar to not changing oil. So you didn't lose any compression and didnt have any play not only after 100h but after 200h on your 2 stroke? Without ring replacement?
The wr250f is a more mellow machine vs the xtrainer. The xtrainer has 4 stroke power delivery and does not really rev up like a traditional 2 stroke. If youre goal is hard enduro xtrainer is great lugging and low flame out rate. But the wr250f is more beginner friendly but has good grunt but the power comes on very easy and slower. Its also a better woods bike imo vs the xtrainer. But the xtrainer is a better enduro single track bike esp for a beginner getting into 2 strokes
Can you get a 2020 KLX300R plated and let us know how it compares? Thanks bud! XD Looking for a lower maintenance but still offroad capable dual sport. The DRZ400 is just too old!
I paid 5200 OTD on the KLX250. in all honesty, its better to buy used if you take the time to save. and carb bikes, get a lectron carb. Im thinking of getting a KTM 300 2 stroke. I currently have a 250, but crave a bit more power and new ones are like 12k OTD. used I can find many for about 4 or 5k. 2 strokes are easy fixes too if something is up with them
Thanks for the replys everyone. Just got a used one for 5000. 2019 KLX250 camo with 800 in extras ( seat concepts seat, engine guard & skid plate, saddle bags ect). Only 1600 miles, really happy with the bike! Perfect for a beginner.
My klr is a fine ride if you want to kick your ass off and still not get to ride get mad and drag it home with your truck -i hate mine.maybe a klx is better but I doubt it8
Great video. I found your channel last night and found it to be honest reviews from somebody not pretending to be an expert. It's refreshing to see. This comparison is a bit tough though The KLX230R compared to the WR250F would be a fair comparison. The KLX is a dual sport, tuned down to pass emissions. The WR250F is not. The WR250R compared to the KLX250 is a better comparison for the dual sport aspects. What people really should ask themselves, does power matter, are you going to ride just off road or on road? Dual sports aren't great on the road and aren't great off road. But if you are just beating around town or just riding around on a farm, a Dual Sport is just fine. If you going to be riding trails and want the power, than they you want a Trail/Enduro bike only and not a dual sport. Dual sports sometimes don't have the power to climb like the trail bikes do. The KLX is not the wrong bike though. Think of it this way, you can Super Moto it when you get a bike dedicated to trail riding. Then you have a dirt bike and street bike. Keep up the great work man. I look forward to more of your videos.
im trying to find a klx230R to compare. would lovvveee to try one of those out! I usually compare things ive ridden ha ha. but yeah this was more of a dirtbike vs dualsport video. but just to demonstrate a learner can go on a wr250f. think I was riding for like 2 or 3 mo in this video.
RideWithWill I’m not downing your review. You did a great job. Just a tough comparison. But from what I hear, the new KLX230 are very nice trail bikes. I’ve heard very good reviews of the 300 as well. I just wish more manufacturers would make 400-500CC dual sports. I know KTM has/had a 500cc. A buddy of mine in the Air Force had one. He set it up as a Super Moto. That’s when I learned about that life lol
My Klx tops out at 79 mph, although I do agree it's comfortable 😂

ya man! i wish I would have started on the wr250f but everytrhing is a learning game and figuring yourself out
Great video
What kind of phone mount and arm you have on your wr250F

Great stuff 🤠
How did the power on the WR compare to a Beta xtrainer? Im looking for something similar or less power than the xtrainer in 4 stroke.

for sure! I am looking to get the klx300R soon! I am going to plate it and see how it does then. I would love to really compare these 2
What are people paying out the door for these bikes?
7.6k(Canadian) out the door on a 2018 klx.
The WR250R was around 10k sticker.
Far too much for what’s basically a toy.

Hey man what kind of tires are you running on your KLX250? I have a KLR250 and it's time for new tires.
Don't get kenda k270s, the front tire is squirrelly as.
