That piece belongs in a museum... very interesting story to it's origin.
Green tubes glass section was exquisite.
Looks like blades of grass.
That was an amazing trip down memory lane, he explained everything so clearly and left nothing unsaid, What a marvel to not only have a piece of jewellery that was made 200 years ago but for it to have that amazing glass from the roman era made it even the more special. To think that they had the technology back then to do something that couldn't be replicated for more than a thousand years is just mind boggling, Roman technology was so advanced
The Romans were ahead of their time. Beautiful glass.
I have a Roman emerald ring beautiful creation
Impressive knowledge by ARS presenters! Beautiful design & those patterns. The "how to" of so much from the Romans (from Concrete to fabulous glass & more) has been lost. Please lady 🙏, wear it! Too beautiful to keep in the dark. 🥰🦘🦘🦘🦘
Oh I did love her expression when she was told how much it was worth! She seems very sweet! I hope she did wear it again! She should know she is worthy of that and a Whole lot more!
I'd lend it to a museum.
What an exquisite piece of art and jewellery that bracelet is. With the most wonderful history. I truly believe such a unique piece is worth a great deal more than he valued it at. ✨💚💛💙
this was filmed 25 years ago, its price would be considerably more today
Based on what knowledge?
In ROMANIA In Constansta a n extremely large and ancient Roman port they have glass works dating back to AD I And Glass is a very beautiful and stunning commodity there !
Astonishing glass , so beautiful .
I would pay much more for this spectacular piece of glass history, its beautiful.
If only it could speak, imagine the stories it could tell!
Roxanne...this programme is probably 40 years old...nowadays the value would be much much more.
that is beautiful, I hope she sells it to a good museum some day.
Glorious bracelet. Such a shame that knowing its market value will stop her from wearing it!
And that was then…imagine what it’s worth now!
Oh I would wear it! It’s gorgeous!
A piece of history, imagine breaking the glass by banging into something, would be a shame.
I’m a jeweler and IMO this belongs in a museum. Glass is easily broken on the wrist.
@@laurae8324if you’re a jeweler like me you’d know that glass is a 6 in the MOHS… we do jewelry with fluorite and people ain’t complaining about it shattering 😂😂😂
Thats is simply stunning. I could stare at it for days.
this bracelet should be in a museum
It was so thrilling to see the true colors of these glass fragments! They, and the bracelet, looked modern. I love ancient history, and seeing something like this is fantastic. BTW, I'd pay $10,000 for this piece. If it fit me that is.
I agree. Given the history and rarity it should be worth much more than quoted.
This episode is 25 years old, in today's money it's worth quite a bit more. 🙂
won't get it for that anywhere close now I'd imagine
Fascinating story and beautiful craftsmanship!
Maybe this bracelet should be in a museum?
I agree
I'm crushed , after she learned of its detailed complexity and values, she responds with "I definitely won't wear it now." Destined to put away in a dark box for centuries again. What an undignified end. Again.
It was made to wear! I hope she changed her mind!
Maybe she will display it in a glass case?
"It's very valuable..."
"Oh, my word! I will quickly bury it an an archaeological site to preserve it."
He certainly knows his stuff. Extremely interesting.
Amazing, so decorative and beautiful. I would love to own it ❤ So much history. Gorgeous 😊😊
What a piece of history!
He was so understated about the glass being ancient that it wasn’t clear til he stated it again later 😂
It always makes me sad when someone fears wearing the jewelry because of the monetary value. It's a gorgeous piece and it would be even more so on her wrist.
I’d wear it all the time. Not daily but to any and every special outing and event. What a conversation piece as well.
@@freelovedragon1417 Same here. I just wouldn't speak of it but drink of it's rare & ancient "secrets".
I have ancient Roman jewelry that I do wear, but one must be incredibly careful, not only because of the intrinsic value and age of the pieces, but the extreme content of lead that is in Roman glass and jewelry! The same goes for my Ancient Roman Coinage. It shouldn't really be handled much, but there's tons of lead contained in the coins as well.
that was really cool. I wish i could hold something in my hands even half as old as that besides rocks.
That glass was amazing
Beautiful piece. Goes well with the presenter's neck tie.
If it cost more than a Vintage Alhambra bracelet, 5 motifs 18k yellow gold diamond I’d probably consider paying for it but this jewelry is glorious!…
You have got to be kidding me. I recently got Van Cleef for my wife on our anniversary and believe me she hasn’t taken it off for about 2 weeks now. 😂
Van Cleef’s are actually grand! However I feel they’re quite overpriced.
Lol! Luxury isn’t cheap and besides it is not all about value. I’m willing to spend my money on something that worths it for me!
I love the reserved disposition and sensibilities of the English. We Americans love exaggeration and histrionics! 😌
A wonderful piece of jewellery. I'd rather have that than a soulless chunk of gold.
I don’t know how I got here. But I’m here and I enjoyed the video.
Fascinating
Lucky lady ,he explained it so well
So beautiful ❤
Good morning everyone
Lovely piece!
Amazing!
That’s astounding to think the individual pieces are c.2000 years old.
And ONLY valued at 10k
Wow!!!!!!!
It’s beautiful
fascinating and beautiful
Make a movie following it from creation to each owner and moments in their lives when they wore it, came into possession it etc. I’d watch it.
Have you seen The Red Violin? It tells a similar story about a musical instrument up for auction in Montreal. It's a beautiful film.
@@patriciasalem3606 I have not but will now! Thank you for the suggestion Pats 😀
@@jakearnouse5267 Enjoy! It's a beautiful film...but have a hankie to hand.
Luckly lady! 🎉❤😊
Very interesting
I would have loved to have seen her on her wrist. ☺️💕🌼
Where do people even get cra- stuff like this!??
Amazing to see how advanced the Romans were. Had the Roman Empire survived, we might have had the Industrial Revolution and the subsequent advances of today a thousand years ago.
You wouldn't have needed the Roman empire to survive. Just Christianity to have not risen in the first place. We've easily lost 1500 years of development thanks to God botherers and their ilk.
Shocking ignorance. Judeo Christian values have brought more advancement, freedom, education, safety & wealth to the word (largely via open market Captalism) than any other philosophy. Would you prefer Roman slavery (where owners could legally rape, beat & kill their chattel), Roman political inequality (ancient Roman voting was only for male land owners - about 10% of the population: "Shut up you 90% & serve your Lords!") , Roman brutalism (public killings of slaves & animals by the thousand, for entertainment. Criminal mayhem amongst the poor, who weren't protected unless they were of some use to a free man), Roman hedonists (aspiring to live for personal pleasures at the cost of quality of life to anyone who can be used to that end. "Wealthy people only please - after we're served, you poor people can prey on each other at will!") to the liberal society that we've created over the last 300 years in the countries where Judeo Christain values have triumphed. The more prosperous parts of Europe, GB, The Americas. Where people live in relative luxury and have rights that are unprecedented in human history (excepting "liberal" Socialist states like Venuzuela, obviously, where a few hold power & the rest fuel the machine).
In the entire world, France first, then England, then the US outlawed slavery - a worldwide institution for all time - & mobilized military to fight against it abroad, at great expencse & largely fruitlessly, for many years. There are still MILLIONS of slaves in the world TODAY in un-Westernized countries that under-educated Westerners seem not to be aware of. Does anyone care? There is still culturally accepted slavery in the Congo, Middle East, China, India & many other places where other religions prevail, in societies geared on VALUES similar to Ancient Rome's. By that, I mean wealth & liberty to those on top, & the masses can scrabble for survival. Roman senators & pholosophers waxed lyric about liberal values regarding their OWN lives, not uplifting the masses, lol).
Snap out of your fantasy of majestically sweeping around in a toga & maybe join the movement of compassion, education, personal freedom, industry. You don't have to join the church, just wise up to a pholosophy that has prevailed because it benefits humans the most, across the board. You MUST believe in natural selection, right? Work to the best of your ability, give compassionately, be independant if you can, represent for freedom of choice - which gives us all the opportunity to better ourselves & help those around us that can't. And drop the resentful attitude, based on believing lies from people who want to tear down what works, to acquire power & benefits for THEMSELVES (shout out to Socialist Democrats!).
£6,000-£10,000 wow
This BBC clip is 25 years old. It'll be more now😊
I'm aways impressed at how cheap this items are. This peace is two thousand years old, made with extremely rare glass and yet, is only worth 10k dollars.
I agree, I would think being 2000 years old that it would be invaluable and a MUSEUM piece!! It shouldn’t “belong” to anyone and if so they really should put it in a museum
the BBC clip is probably 30 plus years old..its probably worth 10x that today
Only? Lol
@@WillyEckaslike 25 years old, but yes.
6000 GBP in 1998 when this was filmed is worth approximately 11,000 GBP today; 10,000 is worth about 18,250 GBP today.
She should wear it, it’s part of her families history….
It's part of Roman history.
6000 to 10000 yeah right go find another one I think it would go for a lot more
This is a very old episode so £6k - £10k then was a huge amount. It will be worth a lot more now.
👍
People, understand that 10,000GBP in 1998 was perhaps 1/10th of what the value would be today. Perhaps some historian can help us out with a reasonable conversion?
Old or new glass jewelery could crack or break while wearing it.

This lady is the personification of "stifff upper lip".
Insure it or sell it.
Bro did you just put and enye on the word, "latticino" 😂 dork
Very Late Roman era glass. Early Roman glass was all pretty much the same color.
She only glances at him while he pierces her with his intense stare.
Amazing! This show was the greatest thing on television, until Fiona Bruce joined as ‘presenter’ and turned it into a non-stop comedy show.
She should have worn it!!
She didn't say "wow"!!!😀
6,000£ in 1998 is 10,905£ in 2023
£12'000 - £18'000 in 2023 allowing for inflation...
Is this beautiful? I don’t think so.
What a very creepy man 😂
To the contrary, I find him to be intelligent, sweet and articulate. The opposite of creepy.
This gentleman went on way too long about this and the lady could barely speak in any kind of recognizable words or language. She could barely speak above a whisper.
He was not waffling on, merely giving expert information which is what she came for. And very interesting, too.
Manners are quite scarce in certain quarters.
and your judgements add So very much
