Do you start felting into the felt background and build up the wool into shape or do you use another method to have the artwork attach to the felt?

I start felting into the background. If the color of the background felt sheet remains unchanged, there is no need for additional processing. However, if the background color is changed, I cut along the model and then adhere or sew the model onto a different background.

@@SophieWool thank you so much! Your work has been very helpful in getting me started into felting. I hope I can make work as good as you do.

Exceptional work, thank you so much for sharing Sophie. What type of clay is that nose made from please?

Polymer Clay or Oven Bake Clay is all good.

Thank you so so much for sharing the info on the material. If using Polymer Clay you'd have to create the nose on the sculpture then take it off to bake in the oven before glueing back onto the sculpture and then paint it? From the video I thought you might have used air-dry clay?@@SophieWool

I use Polymer Clay or Oven Bake Clay to first shape and mold, then remove the nose for baking. If it's slightly stuck, I can separate it from the wool using scissors. Unless it's too tightly attached, I might use a hairdryer directly to harden it.

By the way, the hair dryer needs to blow very hot air to make it hard, so be careful when using it.

I see. Great technique but so far I find Polymer Clay difficult to form the shape as it change too easily, but using the hair dryer is a good tip which I will now try. I’ve learnt so much from your videos, thank you so much for your generosity in sharing your techniques.@@SophieWool
