Karolyn - i did not find this video confusing. In fact, i think you are the most clear and organized instructor i know on YT. Thank you for all your generous sharing, hard work and thoughtfulness in bringing us content. I would greatly appreciate a video on how to stack these multilayer cakes. I searched and couldn,t find. My apologies if you have already shown this. Peace and love 💕
I absolutely admire that you break the "rules" and do what works best for YOU! Thank you so much for sharing this chart. I will absolutely put it to use in my own designs. Happy holidays!
OMFG! I love your chart! Much easier to understand. I love that you include serving sizes for each layer, instead of the entire tier. AND you include serving sizes if you tort the layers. Amazing! Gives you a better idea of serving amounts if you are using different size pans. Love your videos and I am SO glad I found this one!!!
I’m new at baking cakes and started selling them a great weeks ago. This is brilliant! I’ve already used it twice and just watched your video a couple days ago. Thank you so much!
Thank you for all this valuable info! It wasn't confusing & in fact inspiring to create cakes "outside the box!" I love our spirit & down to earth personality! Keep frosting!
You are so amazing! Thank you so much for this video. This is something I've been trying to work on and muddle through and you've summed it all up perfectly! Appreciate you ♡
You explained that perfectly. The chart and the cake pics together were great. I am a visual learner and that will save me a ton of time in the future.
I guess my next question would be how do you determine what a serving is? Like how big are your servings!m? I would love to see how you would cut a 2 layer cake versus a 3 layer of the same size. (Like baking two 6” cakes, but one being 2 layers and one being 3 layers and seeing how you would cut that to get your servings on the chart😅). As always, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge!!!! God bless you!🙏🏼❤️
@@KarolynsKakes Karolyn, hi!! thanks for this awesome video. Same as this other person, I was wondering if you uploaded a video of cutting a cake to further explain this. thank you!!
Hi Karolyn! I can't thank you enough for creating this video. Not confusing at all; you broke it down perfectly. It has been SO confusing trying to make sense of other bakers' guidelines when it comes to cake servings and sizes. You are the first creator I have found that has included servings in regards to torted cakes! All others I have seen use 3 and 4 layers of cake per tier and I just couldn't wrap my head around always making such tall cakes. Thank you, thank you, thank you!! (Also, I was watching this video while doing some research for a friend's wedding cake, and your little p.s. about wedding servings was right on cue ;) just so, so helpful)
Your videos are always so wonderful and simply said and explained. For the more experienced decorators we can understand your serving sizes but for the beginner they may not understand how you come up with those numbers as far as cutting. Have you thought about doing a video on showing how you come up with those amounts by cutting a cake for a visual purpose?
thank you for doing this video. I am so used to doing the standard 6" and 8" to feed 32 ppl, and now with your chart and how you explained it, it makes so much more sense. I will definitely be playing around with the different sizes to make them more interesting. I love your content. thanks again from a fellow home baker.
Thank you! I have learned so much from you. You do your best to explain in simple terms which is much appreciated. My sincere thanks for your generosity in sharing your tips. Keep it coming!
Assume people are following what you're explaining and don't doubt yourself. It's an easy concept, but the way you apologize makes people doubt the concept ❤ Love your work and your willingness to teach.
Thank you so much for this video. This is the BEST video I have found on this topic. I love how to put the chart up along with the cakaes b4 icing them and after. This is exactly what I needed to see.
The way you have explained this has answered a ton of questions in my mind. It was so simple explanation that gave me so much understanding. Thanks so much
I can't thank u enough for explaining this.. I have just started selling cakes and I get confused with cake sizes and servings all the time.. This makes it so much easier for me and my clients..bcs i think i confuse them as well.. lol. and i haven't commented on any video EVER.. bt this content made me.. thanks again
The way I binge watch your videos is crazy lol. Your work is truly art! I’ve definitely learnt a great deal from you! Following you on all your social media channels. Lol
Thank you so much for this video !!! I completely understood everything as much as you may feel like it was hard to explain but you did it so well ❤ I appreciate every detail/information you provided. I’m a first time baker and I want to get in the depths of everything I need to learn about cakes and so far your channel has helped me understand and learn, Thank you 🙏🏽
Lol! The answer to your "why don't they have odd sizes on the Wilton chart"... Because they don't sell the odd sizes other than the 9" pan. (I used to be a Wilton employee) The chart was made (forever ago) only to give you a guide to what pan sizes they sold. I'm old school with my 6-8-10 4" high cakes, (2" high cakes, 1 filling) but after watching this video (and others of yours) I'm inspired to go outside of my box and try some of these other ways of stacking to make my cakes more unique. I always assumed that even if you go higher, the diameter of the cakes are still the same, and the Wilton chart was based off of an industry standard 1"x2" slice. So I could never figure out how people got more slices off the taller cakes. Cutting them smaller to allow for the height does make sense. I'm exited to incorporate the new sizes in the coming year! I already have 5" 7" 9" 11" 13" pans, but never use them, lol. Thanks for your great videos! Always look forward to the next one coming out.
Tracey! Thank you!! And that's good to know, I know that chart has been around forever so there had to be a reason why the odd sizes were missing. I always baked even sizes until I got the odd ones. Now 5 / 7 is my most popular size! And one time I was at a party and was cutting one of my cakes and we got almost 20 servings out of a 6" round! There are always people who just want a small piece. And I feel like Wilton's chart is very generous. I never get complaints that there isn't enough cake.🙂
thank you so much for going into so much detail. your tutorial was so helpful. I love how you showed the differences between your cakes from back then and now. such a biiiiiiiig improvement hopefully ill get there one day.
Thanks so much Karolyn for this detailed explanation - it's a fantastic guide for beginners and experienced cake decorators alike (who may have gotten stuck in that boxed way of doing things)!! You are so sweet to share such detailed knowledge - not many cake bakers/decorators would share their expertise with others - so once again God bless you for that!

This is the most helpful video of all time.!!! I have been asking these questions and trying to figure this out accurately for quite some time. Thank you!
Love your videos!!! ❤ Do you have cake cutting guides to go with your cake serving charts? How do your clients know how to cut to get your servings? What are the sizes of the servings? Keep up all the awesome videos, and thank you for sharing your knowledge! ❤
This was incredibly helpful!! I have been making myself crazy trying to work numbers on a cake to get the servings and have the cake aesthetically pleasing at the same time. I’m so happy I watched this. I’ve turned down two tier cakes before when I thought it wasn’t possible mathematically. AND, I love your concept with not making anything larger than 8” to serve 30. I’ve made some big ass single tier cakes haha. I love this!! Thank you 💕💕💕
Yes! I think people get in their head that having 1 tier will be much cheaper. In my experience, I can bake, fill and ice a round cake with ease, so doing 2 tiers instead of 1 really isn't a big deal. And short / wide cakes look DUMB! LOL I had a girl insist that she wanted 1 tier 8" cake with an owl and a #1 on top. And I told her that there was going to be a lot of extra space because the cake was too big for the toppers. She didn't care. And then she didn't like the cake but couldn't do anything about it because I warned her!
This has been helpful! I'm a new subscriber, finally starting my cake and treat business after years of doubts and a couple under charged cakes🤦♀lol Thank you, your work is also beautiful!!

I did not find this video confusing at all. Thank you so much for clarifying this for me. I was having a bit of hard time trying to figure out how to bake a cake order I received for 100ppl. And they only want a two tier with a cylinder vase in between both layers. I think I may have an idea. Thank you again.
Thank you so much for that detail explanation. Just want to check roughly how tall is your cake layer (after baking) in general? And do you happened to have a cutting guide for these serving sizes? Thanks in advance 🙂
This video is very informative. Thanks for sharing. I’m not sure if you’ve made a video on how to package tall cakes. I’m always curious on what type of cake boxes to use for them. Can you make a video showing various options on how to box them? Ty
I love your videos. You’re detailed with everything! However, I’m so lost on this one. Lol I’d appreciate it If you could tell me what sizes should be done for three tiered cake that would feed 120.
I just got Fat Daddio’s cake pans in size 3, 4, 7, 9, 11, 15 ( all 3” deep) and I could not for the life of me find a serving chart with those sizes. All sizes are even except the 9” as you stated 😂. Thankfully Fat Daddio’s website has a complete chart of serving sizes for all of their pans! 🙌🏽🙌🏽
I so understood that video and chart. I’m going print it and save it for future references. I’m one that stays in the box and have all of my tiers 5 inches, but the different heights makes it intersects and the cakes look so good!! I can’t wait to try it out.
I found your channel and I'm so happy! Thank you for all of the good information, especially batter amounts. I'm one that needs to get away from the boxy-looking wedding cake style. And, I only use Fat Daddio pans, too!
I like the aspect of only doing 8 inch and 6 inch also. It’s a perfect size to me. You broke the servings size down precisely. I always inform customers, that want the bigger cakes, remember everyone doesn’t eat cake, for a better option to not waste money. Treats or cupcakes.
This was really helpful! I think for 3 inch layer cakes would feed divide1 1/2 of that to the serving & 4 inch layer cake you’ll divide by 2 to the serving.
I know you don’t use square cakes but your serving chart is the only one I use that’s accurate to my cakes because I started with your channel. Do you happen to have a guide for a 8x8x5 box cake?
Do you enjoy my tutorials?

I like the aspect of only doing 8 inch and 6 inch also. It’s a perfect size to me. You broke the servings size down precisely. I always inform customers, that want the bigger cakes, remember everyone doesn’t eat cake, for a better option to not waste money. Treats or cupcakes.
Yes! I try to give options with less servings to help keep costs lower!
This was really helpful! I think for 3 inch layer cakes would feed divide1 1/2 of that to the serving & 4 inch layer cake you’ll divide by 2 to the serving.
That makes sense!
@@KarolynsKakes I meant divide lol
Thank you!!! This helped me a lot! I totally understand your chart!!
I'm so glad I didn't confuse everyone!
I've been looking for this for so long, now I have to familiarise myself ith the chart and recipe conversion to different pan size. Thanks
You’re welcome!
I know you don’t use square cakes but your serving chart is the only one I use that’s accurate to my cakes because I started with your channel. Do you happen to have a guide for a 8x8x5 box cake?
Thanks for this! Let me print now
I would love to see a video on how you cut these cakes to get this many servings
Here ya go!

@@mitzieklozotsky5092 I saw that, I wondered if it was the same person with 2 different accounts! That's awesome :)
