      @@andy347495 we just saw the ruger American (not a precision) that is about a 500 dollar rifle outperform the Weatherby which appears to be a 1500 dollar rifle with the same exact match grade ammo. he did it twice with the ruger on 2 seperate occasion, that is consistency, did you watch a different video than I did?

      Savage always seems to pull consistent small groups as well. Some kind of black magic in their barrels.

      @basketofdeplorables4253 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@FreshPwncakez there is no such rifle that will shoot like that on every group, you cant just go buy a multi thousand dollar rifle and grab a box of the cheapest ammo and expect half inch groups. the correct ammo recipe is the key for the best results for even the most expensive rifles to shoot .5 moa, most precision rifle manufacturers will only guarantee .5 moa with a particular type and brand of ammo.

    I CAN hand load and have all the equipment but it's more of a prepper thing for bad times. So, like you I use quite a bit of factory ammo. I've thrown away a lot of money on ammo that just doesn't group well in my rifles. The only cartridges I consistently find do well are Nosler. High dollar though. I did get one box of Federal Terminal Ascent for my Creedmoor and the two shots I fired from that box were right in the center of the bull and touching. I'm saving that box for special occasions. I ran 4 clicks up and am pretty sure I'll be an inch high at 100.

  • @kentgoldings

    You need to measure the muzzle velocity out of that gun. That way, you can replicate the load. Hornady still makes the 140 gr. HPBT match bullets. They probably can charge more for the ELD loads.
    My Ruger American 308 shoots Federal Premium 168 gr. Sierra HPBT match about 0.5 MOA pretty consistently. It shoots 1-1.5 MOA nearly everything else I tried . I replicated that most accurate load by using Sierra bullets at Hodgdon H4895 powder and was able to stretch the 308 to 1000 yards for the first time.

    • @kentgoldings
      @kentgoldings 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@sylviajones3355 My first five shots of the day for any load are always to measure muzzle velocity. The MV on cold days can be different than hotter days.

      What does it mean to stretch to 1000 yards? Hit 12" target consistently or 20" target consistently?

    • @kentgoldings
      @kentgoldings 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@imeprezime1285 My definition. 36 inches tall, 18 inches wide, hit the target repeatedly and predictably with every shot. After that, start to measure groups.

    Your weatherby has the hallmarks of moving in the stock, check and torque screws and if it moves about in stock when screws out throw some JB weld at it just to secure it while torqued down

    I'm a long time 6.5 Creedmoor fan...(sissy? Hadn't heard that one!) It's incredibly gratifying when the rifle, the ammo AND shooter all get synchronized perfectly and this is the result. Happened to me a few times...once with handloads in .300 Weatherby mag, 165 grain Hornady Interlocks I actually shot a 3 shot group measuring .333 at 100 yards. My wife was watching and thought I'd missed!

    Regarding the Mark V - is the barrel free floated? Most Weatherby rifles should have a pressure point on the stock in the barrel channel. I find the easiest way to fix an inaccurate Mark V or Vanguard is to remove the pressure point and ensure the barrel is floating in the channel. But it's rare that I've seen a Weatherby shoot poorly anyways, they're usually all really nice shooters.

    Great video Adam,
    It's sometimes crazy how with some rifles you can look forever to find the ammo that particular rifle likes, and with some rifles they like everything, or hate everything!
    So far I've had success finding the best loads (factory) for everything that that I own, and when I find that ammo I buy as much of it as I possibly can! If I were you I'd be trying to get as much of that Hornady Black as I possibly can.
    Just my 2 cents
    Side note, I own a couple of Weatherbys, I definitely have difficulty getting them to b be sub MOA, Federal Fusions seem to shoot best , but definitely not my most accurate toy in the safe, that honor goes to a SAVAGE AXIS, go figure .

    I've had great luck with the black in 6mm arc!

    I just bought 4 boxes of this at academy. It's the exact same thing as the American Gunner. They didn't stop making either, it's just super hard to find because it gets snapped up so fast. Before 2020, this was my go-to practice ammo for my PRS rifle. It's a little slower and has a lower BC than the eld-m, but out to 600 it's almost identical drop and windage wise. Sadly, it's not $20 a box anymore. Also, the Hornady 4dof app is free and has the BC values of every round Hornady makes. You just plug in your rifle and velocity( you can't go by what's on ANY ammo box) and it will give you everything you need to get your drop and wind data.

      They pulled it off their website because they quit making I am 99% sure. Ah just read your entire message. You are correct. They did "stop making it" but it is now under another name yes

    Have you verified that the barrel on the Weatherby is properly free floated? If there's pressure being applied to the barrel anywhere, it can affect accuracy.

    Try Browning 129 gr. They shoot great out of my Ruger American Predator 6.5 also, Hornady Superformance 129 gr SST shoot tighter groups than just the basic American Whitetail 129 gr rounds

    Try the Hornady 143 gr Precision Hunter. I get better groups with that over the Black.

    Sounds like the Creedmoor got jealous of the Grendel.
