About This Video
I have had this camera for many years kindly given to me by a retired gentleman but rarely use it. But today I took the Braun Paxette to the woods in the rain. I didn't shoot the whole roll of Ilford HP5 but instead opted to shoot only 9 frames and save the rest for another rainy day!

Roger it is allways a joy to photograph with your grandpa's camera . Now I'am photographing with an 1960 Kiev 4 A and 80 to 70 years old Zeiss and Jupiter lenses . These are high contrast lenses with a beautiful bokeh . Leitz lenses from the same period have also a nice bokeh but the contrast is on the low side . Technical Contax / kiev / Zeiss lenses are better more modern than Leica / Leitz lenses from 1940 to 1955 . The only modern lens for my Kiev is a Voigtlander SC Skopar 21 mm that fits very well between the Zeiss lenses . Best regards Peter .

I like taking photos in woodlands, probably because they are peaceful places and I like trees and that lens can certainly swirl the bokeh!

I have two Paxettes and I am very happy with them. The only issue I have had is the rewind knob doesn't seem to catch inside the canister so I have to remove the film in my dark bag. Not a big deal just something I need to remember.

Hello, man you are the best teacher on youtube. I enjoy BW film more and more, almost addicted now, hehe. First time i tried to push hp5 to 800 with my EOS camera, wasnt much happy with results, still underexposed even when i let to soup it around 16 min in rodinal, hard to print, but ok, its fun to learn
Thanks! It's all trial and error. I guess you was at 1:50 with Rodinal. Should have got a decent result. With Rodinal I would have used 10ml Rodinal and 400 ml water for a 35mm film. 16m should have been fine.
Found a watameter 1 rangefinder on Ebay with the leather pouch for a tenner, it arrived this morning. After a bit of head scratching and searching the web I got it calibrated so out tomorrow down by the canal with the wee Kodak 6 model iii and roll of FP4 and see what we can see. PS I just got a new to me but mint second hand Nikon D850 so maybe a double date lol, what the heck I may as well take the F100 as well nothing better to do for the next few days.

Maybe I get it wrong, but with regards to split grading 3.5s with filter 5 + 3.5s with filter 0 should equal 3.5 s filter 2.5? The paper will be exposed predominantly for the shadows with filter 5 and for the highlights with filter 0. With filter 2.5 you just hit the middle....
Pretty much Claus. I use split grading to see where I need to go to balance out a print using the the filters. After split grading like this sometimes I will need to allow more time or less time with either filter and sometimes change the grades all together and carry on testing until I get the look I am after. In this video I was relatively happy but just needed to burn in the leaves and a bit here and there.
great video and i liked the photo 7 mins in, the bokeh from f2 and the old lens is evocative, also the next photo has the letter N made by the trees at the right and given me idea for project (alphabet series) its been done before i expect but giving it a go. and i notice you often use only a few frames from a roll. When you next reload that film do you need to re shape the leader ?. i dont see any reason to and wonder why the film makers do it that shape in the first place
Hi Leslie, yes I reshape the leader with scissors. It won't fit in the take up spall otherwise, or at least with most of my cameras.

I have been trying a rangefinder on my 6x9 adfa camera and it is a bas+++d to use, the eye piece is sooooo small and seeing getting the image inline is a real challenge especially in difficult light, is that me or are there bigger rangefinders. You don't appear to have any issues with yours.

YES -- ' Memories' ! In 1951 i started Photography at East Ham Grammar School Photographic Society and all us 'Impoverished School Boys' could afford only ancient Box Cameras EXCEPT one whose Dad owned a Chemist's Shop in East Ham and his Son had a PAXETTE 35 MM -- I had never seen one before, What is the f2 LENS on yours ? Never knew they could have an f2 lens. Also -- with all the USE you give your Multigrade Filters, how is it that they have nor FADED ? My Grade 5 is much worse than a Grade 3 -- the Magenta has faded so badly.
Hi Pete. I keep them clean and in the box. I'm on my second set however! I kind gentlemen I met years ago gave me that camera. He would be in his late 90's now. He used to use that camera in the 50's. He advised me to keep it on infinity and at f8 when shooting it. Hope all's well with you and the family mate :)
Quick question: is there an adjustment screw on the camera range-finder? There probably is, on the ROWI.
There is on the ROWI James. I can't find one on the paxette, however, the trouble with the paxette is I can hardly see the images coming together. It's very feint.
This subject possibly could have benefited from stand development.
I'm quite new to film photography.Could someone from the UK recommend a good lab for processing as this is not something I can do myself, thanks in advance!

I have, however, I don't have the R72 Filter to benefit the results. I must get one and try it. Thanks

Interesting video as always... I have a Paxette Rangefinder - it was my grandads and a cherished possession. I have with it a 50mm and a 135mm lens plus the original filter and the leather case(s). I haven't shot any film with it but perhaps I should...
