Lol you're describing my childhood. Details are slightly different. But growing up on a farm is an experience. The long days outside. The animals. The tractor riding. The back of the truck riding. The absolute freedom. You describe my feeling of riding in the back of the truck perfectly. Breaking ice in the winter for the cattle, walking way out on the ice, always always tons of chickens, always dogs, cats, random animals, berry picking in the summer, swimming in the stock tank with swimming suit drying crispy in the sun for next time, "camping" in the woods setting up my little forts and camp sites, the horse phase where my dad got us a horse to teach us to break it and ride it, so like you, I had to learn to care for a horse lol. We had an old black plastic culvert that we would roll down the biggest hills we could find, even down the road, lol, trying to keep your hands and feet inside bouncing and running into everything. Honeysuckle over everything in the spring. Climbing mulberry trees and eating till we were full, painting war faces on ourselves with poke berry, playing with all sorts of dangerous items we were allowed to purchase at the flea markets, farm supply stores, and rummage sales. Always hunting, fishing, swimming, baling hay, gardening, mowing, reading, whistling, listening to morning talk shows, late night classical music while watching a June bug you tied to a bit of floss, or listening to the cicadas scream in the woods all around you.

Actually the longer I listened, the more startled I became, you could have described my sister's childhood or mine. Again different details, but I'm glad I'm not the only one that lived this way and wants this for my kids. I live in a suburban-ish area now, wanting to move to the country and start home schooling. I want the life I had for my kids.
