    If you're still in school, make friends with people who have skills you could later use. If one girl is a fabulous model on the side and someone else takes amazing pictures, befriend those people because you could be a resource for each other in the future.

    OMG this sounds so overwhelming, like... you have to think about literally EVERYTHING but as always I'm inspired !

      But that's why I push for organizing yourself on a shoot list before the shoot so you can take your time and think about things, and hopefully prevent you from being too overwhelmed, especially the day of the shoot.

    You give fantastic advice, yes a Photo Shoot just doesn't happen out of thin air! I have encounter in the past designers who want out of a Photo Shoot Look Books as well as Editorial images. Sometimes its possible and some times not. And you are spot on, buyers and store owners want to look at the product so keep it simple. To the point that you mentioned hire a Photographer to do your Look Book and maybe trade off with other Photographers to borrow your clothes to get more Editorial looking images of your clothes from them at pretty much no cost. Thank you Zoe Hong for lovingFashion and share so much through your wonderful channel!

    Thank you for this! I'm a student and for my last project we had to do photoshoots and make it into an advert for the brand we had chosen to act as if we were designing for and it was honestly a mess, I wasn't happy with any of the photographers photos because I had just said yes to the photography student I was offered to collab with and the quick on my friends phone photoshoot I did in a carpark (check my profile picture bc I do love that shot) was 10x better
    Will definately be organising and making my expectations and standards known more in the future!

      Anything in particular about internships?

    • @Janinne.m
      @Janinne.m 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      In the perspective of the fashion company taking you in. Like what do they expect from an intern? Etc etc And also I'm about to find an internship soon so I'm wondering if being only an intern restricts me from saying out my own ideas ?

    Stellar advice once again! It's great that you're eye is getting better, which brings me to my question: what is the blue/indingo eyeliner you sometimes wear in your videos? I've been meaning to ask for a while now, I love the colour!

    • @zoehongteaches
      @zoehongteaches  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's the L'Oreal Silkissime. They only have one blue shade, but I have that pencil in black and metallic olive too. Love them. I also like the Urban Decay 24/7 pencils and if you catch me wearing teal or purple eyeliners, its the Urban Decay.

    I am in New Mexico and I recently interned for a Vogue (international) photoshoot. It was an amazing experience. As a designer, I am always stressing about photo locations and where the model will change outfits because it may be in a public place without restrooms nearby. The rolling rack idea may be helpful to me!

    • @zoehongteaches
      @zoehongteaches  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When I'm outdoors and expecting a little wind, I bring a heavier fabric or big pony clips so the fabric isn't flying everywhere. And then I make a little V with the rack of clothes and put that setup by a tree or a building wall or something like that.

    Hi Zoe, I love your channel. Would you ever consider doing a video about finding a fit model and the different processes in producing catwalk/runway samples that fit industry models. I feel there is a lot of confusion with model sizing and proportions which can make the process very difficult on a low budget or in general difficult with a lot of capital.

    awesome vid! thank you for sharing! Trade for pics (TFP) Is great to start off for photoshoot if can't afford. there's a lot of creative networks on social media and found they were handy to get photographers and models who are looking to do shoots for free and also wanting clothes for specific shoots.

    Hi Zoe! Thankyou so much for these awesome videos. A true life saver.
    I had a question. How can we categorize outerwear, casual wear, evening wear etc in relation to shapes and silhouettes during the design and range development process??? Can an evening wear collection contain an over-sized outer jacket with elaborate emblishments??

    • @zoehongteaches
      @zoehongteaches  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The silhouettes you design, regardless of category, should be defined by your customer/muse. If your customer would wear an oversized embellished jacket over an evening gown for a night out, then yes, you should design that.

    I'm really against the editorial style of photography and I mentioned this a photographer and the photos came back editorial. I was wondering if you have any suggestions on this.

    your channel is so useful!😎👍 even though I shoot for a long time I still decided to refresh the knowledge. 😄
    I'd like to know as well: how do you, guys, make money on photoshoots, campaigns etc. ? Who pays money for photographers, models, mua, stylists etc in the US? Zoe, please, share your American experience!☺🙏

    • @zoehongteaches
      @zoehongteaches  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Money isn't made directly from the shoot or campaign. The photos are used to sell clothes and money made from selling clothes pays for everything.

    can you do a video on designers that are not well know but you need to know for colleges and universities please?

    • @zoehongteaches
      @zoehongteaches  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, I don't think this is something you need. You need to know some designers, and how designers work in general, but I've never heard of anyone expecting students to know a whole bunch of designers that aren't well known. If it concerns you, I would go to a site like vogue.com and check out runway shows of designers you don't know and explore their work.

    Hey, Zoe. This is a great video at the intersection of a couple of my interests. I don't know why I never thought of it, but I'm in the fashion club at CCSF. We meet once a month on Fridays at Sips and Sews. Some of our students end up at the Academy of Arts, there are a few scholarships that AoA provides to the people doing their Senior Collections at CCSF. So, I have a great offer for you! How would you like to come and do a class/presentation/Q&A/ whatever you want for free at one of our club meetings some month? We have a tiny $50-$60 budget that we use for materials or food (we bought yarn and knitting needles for one presentation that everyone took home). Last time we had Steven Heard and Ruth Dang from Clinton-Park who talked about how to cost and price, red flags to screen out clients you don't want, how costs can slip and how to avoid that, the importance of networking and tips on how and where to network, how to decide what you are good at, and opportunities to intern and work and how those can shape your decision to freelance or create a business. It was all really practical advice similarly to the practicality of your advice in this video.

      Sounds interesting. I've had several CCSF/AAU scholarship students. Can you email me at teaching@zoehong.com? Let me know if you have a specific discussion subject in mind.
