Actually, the name "Mr Needlemouse" was a misunderstanding translation because at the time, the word for Sonic's original name was Japanese and so when they translated it it became "Mr Needlemouse" also, the game's developer, Yuji Naka, even confirmed that his original name wasnt "Mr Needlemouse" on an interview.
