    My grandpa loves those Illinois Central engines. He bought one at a train show in Dubuque,IA a couple weeks ago. Congrats on your 20K Subs. Keep up the good work on those videos.

      Yeah, cool. The guy in the club who has all the IC units grew up near the IC if I remember correctly. He collects any railroad associated with them. Thanks!

    This is not a club. It's an artist guild! Please tell Mike that his I.C. and GM&O fleet is a history lesson! Congrats on the subs btw. It's a no brainer that you have a devout following. Thank you for sharing with me as well Sir.

    Wow, congratulations on the 20000 subs. A very impressive club fleet, I can’t imagine how complex the wiring must be to power all of that. You must have an equally impressive amount of boosters to be able to have all of the sound units idling all the time. Thanks for sharing.

    • @RailfanJason
      @RailfanJason  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! Actually most of the track power is controlled through the route selective Peco switches we use. This greatly reduces the wiring. In fact, most of the sound you're hearing is only coming from a small handful of units in each area. But we do have eight 8amp boosters, spread around the layout, plus three main units (one for each of the three mainlines) that controls the boosters. Also to conserve power, when not in use the big yards have master kill switches that shut power off to them so they aren't draining any more power than necessary.

    So awesome to see the classics. ICG, some SP, Rock and ATSF. Where was the MoPac? And those ICG units looking rough, love it.
    Jason, is there any chance you could do a video of the layout at night. Just to see all the lighting around the engine shops and buildings? Be great to see resting, idling locos with their number boards dimly lit up, etc.
    You all have a wonderful layout and always look forward to each of your videos. Thanks and congrats on all the subs.

    • @RailfanJason
      @RailfanJason  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, glad you enjoyed the show. For a while, the guy who has all the Rock Island power was collecting MoPac. I think his interest changed though and he sold off a bunch of the MoPac equipment he had and started going heavy on the Rock. Unfortunately though, dong a night shoot would be difficult since lighting hasn't really taken off yet. It's rare when anyone is at the club after dark, so we've just not taken the time to do much lighting. I want to get some more on mine, but it just comes down to time and money to do it.

    Sweet engines! How do you guys keep track of who's is who's?

    • @RailfanJason
      @RailfanJason  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! It's really not that difficult. Most of the members have their own areas to keep their fleets in. Though there are some exceptions, a lot of the guys don't model the same railroads, so that helps too.

  • @easternwoods4378
    @easternwoods4378 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    That's got to be several hundred thousand worth of locomotives. Is that all club owned or mixed? How do you keep track of who owns what. And then there's the rolling stock. That's one reason the hobby is so expensive.

    • @RailfanJason
      @RailfanJason  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Honestly, we have no idea how much is sitting on the layout. Each area with power belongs to individual members. They know what they spend on each unit, but no one has ever take the time to add it all up. Would probably give a quarter of the membership a heart attack if they found out. But that's how we keep track too, each area belongs to a different member and we all model different railroads, so we know what goes where.
