Perfect example of the understated SCTV humor. "You can always tell a good Chinese restaurant by the number of orientals who eat here." Camera pans around restaurent showing zero Asians.
He did a bunch of hilarious LaRue exercise segments and they all involved opening the fridge and taking out beer and he's always winded by the 3rd rep.
loved it when actors broke each other up..i.e.1:27 "May I now order for you..to help you?" LaRue: (trying not to laugh) "What?" Dave (also trying not to laugh) "May I order for you?"
3:23 This may be the first instance on TV of the use of the now popular popular term "graze(ing)" for eating a large helping of appetizers. SCTV was always breaking new ground.
Outstanding!! I loved SCTV and especially "Dining With Larue". John Candy was such a talented man. I was a bigger fan of the half hour shows instead of the ones that were on NBC.
@@hushabyehum4805 He's been in all sorts of skits not in a restaurant, I meant all of them. I can't figure out who he's parodying, but he does much better impressions usually.
The venerable Lin Ye Tang... according to Johnny LaRue of SCTV's 'Dining with LaRue'...did not have Peking Duck relations with the Ting Tang Orange Drink sisters of East Melonville....
Yes these skits are funny and classic. PC era was in the 90s and it passed like a ghost fart, except with horrible unfunny whiny white people who think this stuff is comparable to needless use of racial slurs.

"Dining With Larue" Nothing better!
Truly the funniest comedy ever to grace television.
I have plenty of them on mine for you.
Indeed!
These two actors are so funny together. Actually John Candy played off any actor perfectly so it seemed more natural

Yeah, I loved that part. True improvised comedy!
Hor ya can be hungy you bin eatin aw day?
I loved that.
He comes out with a huge bowl of white rice, another large bowl of bean sprouts, and LaRue's review is 5 stars! LOL
Nice accent mixed with vietnamese accent. I'm Asian and it was funny because John Candy is so likeable.
That's damn white of you

You have a good point there!
I thought he was calling him a cow, grazing on sprouts.
@Nelson Robert Willis I've said something like that to my wife before. That was a mistake.
Tang Gardens: I've been in one in Vancouver.
God rest his soul. John Candy had more ahead of him.
Indeed he did. He is missed.
Dave Thomas!
Johnny Laru.😂😂😂
Outstanding!! I loved SCTV and especially "Dining With Larue". John Candy was such a talented man. I was a bigger fan of the half hour shows instead of the ones that were on NBC.
I have a huge crush on Johnny La Rue
He'd crush you too!
u real for that
*Sit on it!”
Lovely
I never got the Lin Ye Tang character, but love Dining With LaRue. Can't find his speed-drinking skit, so I'll have to upload mine now, I guess.
I think it’s that it’s not a real Chinese restaurant and the guy is just pretending to be Asian (very poorly ) and the reviewer doesn’t realize

I'm Chinese and I get it. He acts like my dad.
Thank God there's no more smoking in restaurants
" noodles on your head,,,,,,"
Angus Crock does a great Vaguely Asian accent!
...or Lin ye Tang does a great over the top Scottish accent! Now away with ya, ya wee beastie! 😂
those were good days bacl then......
Looks like they really did get into the wine!
Who disliked this? Thats what I wanna know!
Probably Orientals.
Way ahead of their time in political correctness !!
Apparently not far enough if they have white actor playing a Chinese man.
Early diners dives and drives
The venerable Lin Ye Tang... according to Johnny LaRue of SCTV's 'Dining with LaRue'...did not have Peking Duck relations with the Ting Tang Orange Drink sisters of East Melonville....
unfair joke! John Candy was at his fittest at this time. Miss him tremendously.
Dwave Thomass would get concelled...lol
Too bad he did get cancelled, The Dave Thomas show was pretty decent early 90s tv fair.
Graze on that……
Ewwww just a plain bowl of bean sprouts, I hate bean sprouts
Lol.
I wonder if this will pass in the age of political correctness
yes it will. The difference is actual comedy vs just the need to be offensive for the sake of being offensive.
Yes these skits are funny and classic. PC era was in the 90s and it passed like a ghost fart, except with horrible unfunny whiny white people who think this stuff is comparable to needless use of racial slurs.
Dave Thomas, for just being a white skined man, would be canceled for playing a Asian man.
I hope the snowflakes don't freak out over Dave Thomas' "Chinaman", lol! Weren't times simpler before "cancel culture'?
This wouldn't go over well nowadays
It's just funny, the joke is that the proprieter isnt actually Chinese. If SCTV had had an Asian on cast, it would still be Dave Thos. here.
If by simpler you mean disrespectful, then yes, so much simpler!
Smoking in a restaurant...freedom rules at least then
Not for those who hated inhaling other people's cigarette smoke.
