How do you hold up the bushnell and have it go off without actually holding jt

If they happen to be using a similar frequency you could be throwing off the measurements.

Does the app work well during the night or indoor tennis lighting? No response on this as yet? Plus I would like to see how accurate the app is when serving in the 90-120mph range. 60 mph isn't much speed for a serve.

+HollywoodToronto The app only works well outdoors during daylight.
The latest iPhones have better low light sensors so you may or may not get performance indoors depending upon the brightness. You can try the free version to test.
We have tested speeds up to 94mph against the Stalker II Pro and it holds its accuracy. That is the fastest ball machine we could yet find. The latest version actually saves selfie videos stamped with the speeds which means you can photo verify pixel-by-pixel to prove it is accurate (iPhone 6+/6S/6S+/iPad Pro only)

+Athla Should the front facing camera with the app be facing towards the server or pointed in the middle of the court? The way you have it set up I don't see how the camera with its narrow field of view can capture the server serving? Any info appreciated.

This helped me decide to get the Bushnell radar gun. Not that different from the stalker pro after a few throws- according to this video. Also the athla velocity’s not accurate, it told me that I threw 76 mph and when during tryouts, the coach used pocket radar and it said 61 mph, but good attempt athla, would like to see your app grow and be more accurate. 😀

Ok guys I want to give it a shot on this app but I only play tennis at night, will this app give me the same good results at night as it would during the day?

+Elifaz Filho No - Athla Velocity only works outdoors during the day
The latest iPhones (6S/6S+) have better low light sensors that might work indoors. You can try the free version to test if your facility is bright enough.

When it is unclear what is the best "gold" standard to use, typically you look for agreement across the other radars. When multiple other radars agree - and the standard you are testing doesn't - the probability increases that that particular reading is wrong. The PlaySight can be seen often disagreeing with multiple other radars - thus suggesting it is off on a variety of readings. The Stalker, on the other hand, most often agreed with multiple other radars. We thus used the Stalker as the standard because of that experience and because the Stalker is used as the "gold standard" by over 30 professional baseball teams..

were you trying to set it up where the results would be of very little use? Why not use it with an actual server?? Why have the skilz up by the net? You do realize the importance of using a similar orientation for pick up, right?

+C Tomlin The SKLZ was set exactly where the instructions indicate to place it for it to be accurate. If you Google for the instructions you can see the package insert which shows where to place it. Additionally, we used a ball machine to standardize the measurements. Radar guns don't work accurately and consistently with an actual tennis server due to the cosine error of Dopplers. (Google "cosine error doppler radar.") By using a ball machine down the midline at different speeds - we were able to ensure that every shot was standard and we were able to set up every device to work as good as it can.

Athla thanks and that is a great answer overall, which would have been nice to go with your vid and the narrow, but good aim of your work here. Athla was very impressive overall, but I think we are all more interested in how they perform in actual tennis situations. Thanks for pointing out how tough it is to gain accuracy in live situations.
