    This seems like an ideal project for your equipment, how you work, etc. How can digging dirt be so interesting? It is not unlike my childhood farm days on the moldboard plow - hours, hours, day, ... watching the plow turn over the dirt. Almost like watching fire. Great videos! Thank you.

    Man, that 250 is one sweet productive piece of machinery. If I had my choice, I would still prefer to be on that beautiful Komatsu.
    That click-clack of the tracks has been a sound that I have loved since I was a kid. I used to wash airplanes at a local airport that a good friend of my dad owned, and as payment I would get to run his International 125 track loader in the sand stone pile. It was some of the best fun I had as a 11/12 year old kid.

    That 290 wouldn't do much good here with less then 3-4 trucks running.
    I watched a big Volvo go to the bottom of about a 25' hole, landed square on the bucket with the operators feet on the front glass. 2 D9's pulled it back up without a scratch on it. I knew someone was getting fired, but it worked out like it never even happened. I didn't see nothing...

      Steve's Favs it’s used to help attach the dam to the ground, sounds silly but no matter how many thousand tons of dirt you put there it can still move. Buy digging through the topsoil that deep you also dig past any stumps, trench’s and variations in terrain that may cause the dam to leak.
      It’s basically a seal between the dam and ground to help it stay full

    For such a big work second hauling machine would improve efficiency a lot, wouldnt it? It is not cheaper to hire additional truck vs the expense of fuel and labour costs on idle? And in day with good condition it may save a lot to shorten overall job time. Keep up the good work.
    edit: ah, dozer wouldnt keep up, it is a small one.

  • @mickeypadgett7078

  • @loftonharris5632
    @loftonharris5632 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Just curious: I assume the excavator is the most expensive piece of equipment you’ve operating here. Would it be more cost effective to have a second haul truck running to avoid idling the excavator while the one haul truck unloads? Or is the job too small to justify a second haul truck? Either way, I’m impressed with the rate at which you move dirt and get it placed on the dam. Correction: on the “pond dam.”

    • @nickh7050
      @nickh7050 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They would have to rent the second haul truck as they only own the one. That's probably around $4,000 per week. Even if they did rent a second truck they don't have a fourth employee to run it.

    • @ryanconrad1516
      @ryanconrad1516 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They’re making short turns, there would pretty much be a traffic jam with a second truck, then there would be more time with the excavator idling

      I mostly ran cats and the occasional international, but in the nineties I spent a summer on a komatsu and it impressed me with the volume of material I could move, it was around the same size as a D7, maybe slightly larger. Made it through a hard summer feeding a high rate crusher raw material off a mountain side.
