Yeah, he wasn't able to fix himself. That's common, you have some of the most brilliant people that are extremely capable, and they can help fix almost anyone, but they can't fix themselves at all, or don't want to try or put in any effort. Jack was a very complex character.
He died content. He lived and he loved. And he found purpose and filled the gap in his life. His afterlife (the church scene) reunited him with everyone he loved. His body may have died without those he loved but his soul continued on with everyone that mattered to him.
This is a masterpiece. Lost is goat ! Jack is a hero for his sacrifices, what a journey he endured, one of my fav characters ever that will remain in my heart forever.

I discovered Lost during my lowest point in life probably. I was 14, my parents were fighting, my father was struggling with depression, my brother had behavioural issues. I felt like it was my job to be ok, to find solutions, to fix everyone, it was never enough. Jack's character touched me profoundly at that age, he is the fixer, the restless one, the angry one. Seing him let go at the end of the show helped me let go myself at the time.
First time watching LOST I disliked him... Thought he was that typical ''let me be the hero'' guy! I was 13 years old. The next 3-4 times I figured he was alright! Re-watching this now I think he is one of the best characters on the show!

I don't know what it is about Jack that people don't like. Its like people watched the show but didn't really understand the subtext of what Locke and him we're always arguing about. Jack's ideology is wrong, we know that for a fact; but Matthew Fox's performance so clearly telegraphs that he wants to believe what Locke is saying but can't because it goes against what he was taught. Jack acts the way he does because he feels conflicted.

The heart and passion for the characters & song has always been there but I can't deny you're able to transmit the message in an even better, heartbreaking way. Jack is GRRREAT person but his flaw was his stubbornness 💔 even he saw the island vanished in front of his eyes he denied cause he didn’t want to think that locke was right 😢 but we all have flaws we all are lost 😢
