Truly enlightening! I never realized the sheer vastness and significance of "Nataraja"!
Today, I learned that the significance of "Nata", which means "Avashpandane". At first the huge word "Avaspandane" didn't make any sense to me.However, when Piyal da explained that the Prefix 'Ava' means subtle and the root word 'spandan' means pulse or pulsation. That means "Nata" means "Avaspandane" meaning 'subtle pulsation'. "Raja" is derived from the word 'Raji' meaning selfillumined or the one who can see the world in his/ her own light. This explains the essence of the existence of an artist and also of an art connoisseur. Both artist and the audience needs to be either at the creating or receiving end of the 'subtle pulsation' and should have the consciousness to illumine the world in your own light. However, there is no end to subtlety. The subtler a person, the heightened s/he is as an artist or an audience. Similarly, the brighter your light of realization, the better understanding you have of the universe (a creation in itself). Today I realized why the "Nataraja" statue is equalled with creativity and art. This was my learning.For me, the rest of the lecture was exemplification of Piyal da's super-subtle sensibility and how he illumines the world with the light of his realization.Mesmerized!!!
