- Well after all these years I figured I’d finally do a full play through with Liu Kang. Did I have a strategy? Not really. Liu is a character I’ve never really used against the computer, sure he’s great against human opponents, but when the computer constantly reads your inputs it’s hard to have a solid strategy. So watch as I fumble and fail over and over trying to beat this game with Liu Kang. The frustration almost takes over, but I remain calm and emerge victorious. Eventually.

Darryl I JUST beat this for the first time and thank GOD for you and your uploads. The ducking trick helped a lot but I’m not great at it. I was able to beat the game with liu though and able to acquire my trophies on PSN. Now I can say I’ve beaten all the MK arcade ports!
Liu Kang is one character I couldn't beat this game with, so I understand your pain, bro.
Yeah to win with him requires something specific, but I have no idea what that is

Darryl at this point just use player 2 exploit 😂 sometimes I forget how hard this game really is
I honestly don’t know the player two side exploits though, I’ve never played through on that side.
Darryl, what you need to achieve is to jump right next to the ia when it comes walking towards you, calculate the jump to land right next to the ia. Just jump, no jumping with kick. If you can do that you can walk forward and the ia will walk backwards without doing anything, it will just walk backwards, in other words you are in control. If you stop or walk backwards, after a certain distance the ia will stop and throw a projectile, which you can evade by jumping and attacking. There are other situations where this is applicable, such as after a sweep, you should be at the right distance to jump just to the side of the ia. The concept is to make the jump and control the movement of the ia.
This is universal, i.e. you can choose any character from the roster and it will work. Of course as you progress it will become more difficult, but the idea is still the same. This way you not only get to control the ia, but you can practice situations, combos in a much more accessible way which makes the game much more enjoyable for those who have trouble with the difficulty. In other words, it is a friendlier way to get to know and learn the game. That's why I think it's more than interesting if you take the challenge to learn and show it to those who might find it useful and learn something that was left pending in your favourite game.

I know dude, you’ve mastered Liu on there I’ve seen your play throughs, I’m not quick enough on that air fireball, and I don’t know how the computer would react to certain moves, I’m an absolute mess lol

just a little tip when going up against Liu Kang, almost 90% of the time you can win the fight with just HP (without mashing so fast) he walks up to it and stays getting hit till his health is 0. Works both rounds and has been my strategy to pass him ever since. 👌🏽
I just discovered that strategy not long ago, I’ll use it every once in awhile 👊🏼
Why does Scorpion stand like Sub-Zero when he’s not moving once the fight(s) start? That’s so awkward. Definite fault in the port on that one!
Crazy thing for me is that I can beat this game with Liu Kang but the other characters I have a tough time beating it with them
One trick I've found to work is throw exactly 3 low punches right in front of them and they will go for the sweep which you forward jump over and either punch them or kick them in the air when coming down behind them

I notice the cpu likes to throw you especially after either you doing a sweep or it sweeping you. How hard is it to throw the cpu back? Hard to do move? Maybe learn it and put it in your move-set?
This game button reads and cheats everyway possible. I've only seen it beat using a few different exploits. As far as grabbing, the cpu grab is going to Override yours almost 100% of the time.

Nope but I too found one for 80 bucks here in Canada, do you know if it’s the arcade version or the Genesis version?

All i do is bicycle kick the whole time. if you hold it down and then just activate it as they get close to you it works more often than not for an easy but boring playthrough. as soon as it hits, hold lk again and just start backing up. rinse and repeat ;-) If they duck under which they will do a lot esp in later stages, just keep backing up with lk held and try again.
Update: Looks like you figured it out on your reptile fight. stick to it. it'll work once you get the right timing 🙂
