  • In this tutorial Jane demonstrates an easy approach to painting bamboo using acrylics. The finished project makes a great accent piece for home decor. As always, she starts her canvas by painting it orange or red and then sketching out the concept using hookers green deep. She explains the use of shadow and light in creating the effect, and what paint colors to mix to make shadows, light, shades of green and tans. She also talks about "negative painting" which is how she always paints. To see an explanation of negative painting, checkout link below. At her website, find a list of paint colors she has for her basic palette, as well as her favorite brushes. At the site, there are 10 classes available for only $25 each. You download the class, and it is yours to keep and follow along at your own pace. The most important thing to remember is that it is just a painting, so have fun.

Thanks so much for another incredible tutorial. Your videos are always inspiring and incredibly instructive. A year ago, I would have followed along with you and copied your every movement. Now, with your help, I have the confidence to borrow your composition, but insert my own colors. Perhaps some metallics that I have laying around, unopened.

I always start out with a student- grade red or orange acrylic paint and just slap it on. No cares about how it looks . Also, I don't apply it thickly because I don't want the canvas to lose "teeth." Let it totally dry before starting your painting.
