How cool was that, running into a longtime follower in the middle of nowhere! The hot springs looked interesting, but the goosebumps on Kaylee, holy cow. I love when Sadie does "cheers". Not a bad thing that the road is closed, safety first, and you could all use a break. Continued safe travels.

I just love how you listen to Sadie, there’s a belief that it takes time for your soul to catch up when you transport mechanically to other destinations, whether or not thats true all the things you do to provide ‘travel-care’ to Sadie is lovely, the routine parks, dances, songs, healthy food (roots are good for grounding)…all the activities that help ground oneself, has been so lovely. Breathe, yoga and do what you do!❤ BTW thanks for telling us your taking a day, it really is nice to know. I have rearranged what I can to jump on and I worry when its late😊

Glad you are taking a pause. In the summer insanely hot in Death Valley, but not all year. Desert = warm days COLD nights almost all the time. This time of year expect ~80s days, 50s or colder at night. It is VERY dry. Stay hydrated, as dehydration headaches and bloody noses are common. Also, Santa Anas are blowin' which are the winds you've been experiencing. We're on fire watch In Los Angeles for the San Fernando Valley up through Santa Clarita until tomorrow due to the winds. P.S. I live in a tiny canyon in Los Angeles (300 families), my neighbor asked me awhile back if I'd heard of you guys since he follows you! Exciting to find someone else i know who is hooked as well! I've been following since you started heading south from Alaska several years ago. What an adventure it has been! Sadie is a travel rock star for a 2-year old, which speaks volumes to the two of you, and your ability to keep her entertained while on the road. And to take a break when necessary. Nature is giving you a very well-earned break. One thing I have come to love with your journey is when you're filming whilst driving, there is that beloved, faithful, not without flaws, Airstream (reminds me a bit of Marvin, the robot from Hithchikers' Guide to The Galaxy...) doggedly always there. Enjoy your day off! Well deserved. I have to say, watching you criss cross the U.S. reminds me of a similar trip I took in early 80's that was so so fun! I miss those days so much. And you're so right, the people you meet are the best part of the trip. One thing I was shocked by (I'm from S.F.) was the racism that was still so alive in the south; Mississippi, Alabama, etc. I really hope it's changed, I've never been back to camp there, but it was really an eye opening experience.

If you are close by Lone Pine. Do not miss a drive through Movie Road, in Alabama hills it is really beautiful and lots of cool history of films all the way back to 1939. Also the cafe next to the Laundromat is really good I think Kaylee would love it. We are old but have RVed there from the NW corner of Washington. Thanks for sharing your adventures, John and Geneva
The record high temperature on earth is now at 134, recorded at Furnace Creek, Death Valley National Park. There were two high observations in Africa at 136. but after some review of the instruments and locations. those temperatures were decertified sometime in the last 20 years. I tow my 14 foot travel trailer, and with my hybrid suv. Mostly driving through the warmer southwest, bern through Canyons in Utah & Arizona with 60 mph winds, 18 wheelers were pulled over….. it is best to stay put if you can. Love y’all !!! Yep.... Welcome to the deserts of Southern California... I swear we only have 2 seasons cold winters (I know that there is worse weather up in Montana and Wyoming where I here it get so cold that if boiling water is thrown it will freeze but I hate the winters here in the desert) and miserably horrible hot sweltering 110 - 115° summers (not as bad as Arizona where the people drive around with oven mitts in their glove boxes because you cannot touch the steering wheel) we might have some nice weather in spring or fall. In April here in Lancaster, we have the Annual Poppy festival, but I hardly ever went because of the wind. It is NO fun to have to fight the wind to do anything. But one thing about California weather that is generally nice is down in Los Angeles area. I do hope you have a nice trip and actually Sadie is doing GREAT for being cooped up in the car. One thing that worked for my boys (they are both grown and out of college now) is we got them set up with their own portable DVD player and they watched their movies with headsets did wonders for our roadtrips.
Aww guys its such a new experience being first time parents. Small challenges but huge leaps, every day! My son is 14 and it is so so true about how time flies. It would be terrible to cut your journey short. You are doing amazingly with Sadie, but you will all miss out if you stop. Be strong and keep on truckin guys😊

That hot record was probably not in the end of October. We camped in Stovepipe Wells (Death Valley) in a tent camper many years ago in the summer, no AC, it was 115 Degrees F. The last thing you want to do in those temps. is to get in hot Springs.

@@BeanCruisers Bagby is a natural spring. BUT it has bath houses instead of just a pond. There are also lookouts with tubs. The tubs are built with giant old logs. It’s on the river. There is a pump system and buckets to allow for adjusting your tub. It was once privately owned and built into a dream for the public to use freely, then gifted to the parks. Its still free to use but the parking lot requires a day pass or park pass. It’s unmanned but kept up. I would absolutely recommend visiting if you’re in the area.
West Coast trips are often riddled with fire, smoke, snow, and wind issues this time of year. Excited you’ve only had this one concern. Hope you’ve had a great break. ❤

Hey guy the high desert gets really cold in the winter I live in Phoenix az at one and I use haul mobile home to reno n.v 2 times a week and i've seen snow in the desert before

I hope you guys know that you have my absolute love and support. This in no way is directed at you personally. I follow and have followed a number of travel channels/now home build/homestead channels and feel so incredibly blessed by not only the content, but the creators zest for life, their love for each other and devotion to kindness, compassion and sharing. What I'm stuggling with is the contrast between being good stewards of the earth and the carbon footprint that all the unnecessary travel is creating. So many have an off grid, renewable energy, vegan lifestyle, yet travel to and fro that absolutely adds emissions to our atmosphere. I hear too often how our governments need to take action on climate change and yet see very few taking personal responsibility for their own contributions. We saw first hand during the lockdowns how the earth began healing itself. That was proof enough for me that it's possible and necessary for all of us to do our own part to protect this planet.

Hi Folks, Im watching you from very long time and really enjoy what you 3 are doing on the farm. But to be honest when you share the news do the trip with Sadie, I was worry about her. Those are a lot of hours/days to be in car/airstream. She bring such joy to the group. Wish you all the best.
We made a mistake by driving in high winds with our 5th wheel some years ago. Huge mistake! Ran through fuel like crazy, had to make unscheduled stop to find gas...oh, it did not end well! Take a day! By the way, some breakage is the norm on an RV, especially for all the miles you are making. I don't think there is any trailer or motor home than is totally unbreakable. Trailers just take a beating. Rock on!
The southwest desert can get quite cold in winter. In Palmdale we would get enough snow to play in usually after the first of the year. This was quite a few years ago though. Even in San Diego county we can get frost warnings on occasion.

Wet cold can get to your bones 🦴. We stay warm using a uniques technique on our travel adventure that you wouldn't believe. 😃

Ive been camping at DV when the wind blew so hard it bent my Eureka tent poles! The fabric was amazingly fine but i had to replace the poles. Wild!

I tow my 14 foot travel trailer, and with my hybrid suv. Mostly driving through the warmer southwest, bern through Canyons in Utah & Arizona with 60 mph winds, 18 wheelers were pulled over….. it is best to stay put if you can.

To be adventurous is fabulous; to be sensible about it, is paramount. I've been following you since you arrived in Panama from Costa Rica in your (ahem) tired bus. Never thought you "young hippies" would turn out such an awesome entrepreneurial (and really sweet) couple - and then, Sadie arrived. 🥰to the Three of you from this old Writer whose adventures are now only on paper.

Yep.... Welcome to the deserts of Southern California... I swear we only have 2 seasons cold winters (I know that there is worse weather up in Montana and Wyoming where I here it get so cold that if boiling water is thrown it will freeze but I hate the winters here in the desert) and miserably horrible hot sweltering 110 - 115° summers (not as bad as Arizona where the people drive around with oven mitts in their glove boxes because you cannot touch the steering wheel) we might have some nice weather in spring or fall.
In April here in Lancaster, we have the Annual Poppy festival, but I hardly ever went because of the wind. It is NO fun to have to fight the wind to do anything. But one thing about California weather that is generally nice is down in Los Angeles area. I do hope you have a nice trip and actually Sadie is doing GREAT for being cooped up in the car. One thing that worked for my boys (they are both grown and out of college now) is we got them set up with their own portable DVD player and they watched their movies with headsets did wonders for our roadtrips.
Aww guys its such a new experience being first time parents. Small challenges but huge leaps, every day! My son is 14 and it is so so true about how time flies. It would be terrible to cut your journey short. You are doing amazingly with Sadie, but you will all miss out if you stop. Be strong and keep on truckin guys😊

That hot record was probably not in the end of October. We camped in Stovepipe Wells (Death Valley) in a tent camper many years ago in the summer, no AC, it was 115 Degrees F. The last thing you want to do in those temps. is to get in hot Springs.

@@BeanCruisers Bagby is a natural spring. BUT it has bath houses instead of just a pond. There are also lookouts with tubs. The tubs are built with giant old logs. It’s on the river. There is a pump system and buckets to allow for adjusting your tub. It was once privately owned and built into a dream for the public to use freely, then gifted to the parks. Its still free to use but the parking lot requires a day pass or park pass. It’s unmanned but kept up. I would absolutely recommend visiting if you’re in the area.

Hey guy the high desert gets really cold in the winter I live in Phoenix az at one and I use haul mobile home to reno n.v 2 times a week and i've seen snow in the desert before

I hope you guys know that you have my absolute love and support. This in no way is directed at you personally. I follow and have followed a number of travel channels/now home build/homestead channels and feel so incredibly blessed by not only the content, but the creators zest for life, their love for each other and devotion to kindness, compassion and sharing. What I'm stuggling with is the contrast between being good stewards of the earth and the carbon footprint that all the unnecessary travel is creating. So many have an off grid, renewable energy, vegan lifestyle, yet travel to and fro that absolutely adds emissions to our atmosphere. I hear too often how our governments need to take action on climate change and yet see very few taking personal responsibility for their own contributions. We saw first hand during the lockdowns how the earth began healing itself. That was proof enough for me that it's possible and necessary for all of us to do our own part to protect this planet.

Hi Folks, Im watching you from very long time and really enjoy what you 3 are doing on the farm. But to be honest when you share the news do the trip with Sadie, I was worry about her. Those are a lot of hours/days to be in car/airstream.

We made a mistake by driving in high winds with our 5th wheel some years ago. Huge mistake! Ran through fuel like crazy, had to make unscheduled stop to find gas...oh, it did not end well! Take a day! By the way, some breakage is the norm on an RV, especially for all the miles you are making. I don't think there is any trailer or motor home than is totally unbreakable. Trailers just take a beating. Rock on!
The southwest desert can get quite cold in winter. In Palmdale we would get enough snow to play in usually after the first of the year. This was quite a few years ago though. Even in San Diego county we can get frost warnings on occasion.
We were hoping it would be warm there. We are coming from Alaska.
