Yelling into my phone screen watching 30 year old footage, at midnight when I’m supposed to be sleeping for work tomorrow, at Wendy for not guessing X-Ray the first time like how dumb are you?!?! My childhood self must be so proud of me right now.
For the first week in 1984, Super Password aired on noon in order to compete with the likes of ABC's Family Feud. The following week, SP will compete with the soap Ryan's Hope.
Before Super Password premiered, Rich Jeffries did subannouncing job on the Bill Cullen version of _Blockbusters_ and possibly _Password Plus_ and _The Match Game-Hollywood Squares Hour_ and after Jeffries left Super Password, he did subannoucing duties for Charlie Tuna on _Time Machine_ with John Davidson.
He also auditioned for the announcing role on The Price is Right after the death of Johnny Olson. Fellow Super Password announcer Gene Wood and fellow Blockbusters announcer Bob Hilton also auditioned for the role, but the gig ended up going to Rod Roddy.
it's weird seeing them not use the magic toaster for the cashword, when did they add that magic toaster "the one Bert Convy broke 1 time accidentally and the 2nd one Betty White purposely destroyed on the final episode"?
Bob Hilton also did a week! Would have loved to hear Johnny Gilbert, Johnny Olson, Rod Roddy, John Harlan, Art James and/or Charlie O'Donnell at the mic filling in for Gene in later episodes (and perhaps also Dean Goss though he never worked for Mark Goodson. Charlie Tuna would be another great first-time Goodson announcer here).
They each take turns giving a one-word clue to the puzzle above. "Awwwww -wwwww-awwe!" is NOT a word!!! Contestants\celebrities have been penalized for trying to sneak by non-existing\usable words.
3:10 Pat just practically plugged Press Your Luck... luckily, PYL aired at 10:30, leading into TPIR, but NBC (a d for the most part, Mark Goodson) could have been.impacted by this...

According to my dictionary, there is no such word as pieceful. Therefore, when Gloria said "peaceful", it should not have been a form of the word "piece". But, you win some, you lose some.
I liked the additions they added to Password when they invented Password Plus, but here I think the lily is just a bit too gilded. Compared to the drek that's created today, this is heaven; still, too much going on in my opinion
This show premiere weeks before "Trivia Trap," at the time Gene Wood was announcing, and he was very busy, so Rich Jeffries took over, on this version of Password, for a while, before his mentor was needed there, because Rich was a very horrible announcer. May Bert, Rich & Gene #RIP!

Sure wish they had shows like this today. Love this show
Love This game show. I never get tired of seeing tbe reruns. Such a great Game.
I can watch this game show all day long.
Awesome debut for Bert!!! Oh and my man Rich on the microphone!!!
I REALLY think Betty White should have been the first contestant on here!
But she was the last one in March 1989 with Mr. Belvedere himself, the late Christopher Hewitt.
I agree!!!
This game got so much better after this episode
Could've been a lot more better IF the contestant was given the option to give or receive because of the big money offered.

This was the First Time a Version of PASSWORD Premiered After Allen Ludden Passed Away
Three years since he passed.

This is Basically an Updated Version of PASSWORD PLUS
Welcome to the series premiere episode of Super Password, hosted by Bert Convy. It is aired on September 24, 1984, part of its NBC daytime schedule.
This was filmed September 19, 1984.
Rich Jeffries being the fill-in announcer for Gene Wood
Pat Sajak 0:20 is celebrating his 40th year as the host of wheel of fortune
it's weird seeing them not use the magic toaster for the cashword, when did they add that magic toaster "the one Bert Convy broke 1 time accidentally and the 2nd one Betty White purposely destroyed on the final episode"?
tomorrow it's super password 40th anniversary congratulations 🎊
Super password premiere with Bert convey
happy 40th anniversary super password
Who would've thought that pat sajak long time host of wheel of fortune would be announced as 1 of the 1st 2 celebrity players on super password!
Lisa Loring is Robin Thicke's mother
She and her husband Alan Thicke wrote many TV theme songs including Different Strokes and The Facts of Life.
Her name is Gloria.
An H is not at the name of city mentioned in the bonus round.
I wonder if the host ever found out what Charmin Don't Squeeze TP is? he had no clue what it was in an episode of PW+
Irony about the last two Password hosts. Tom Kennedy and Bert Convey debuts right before Ronald Reagan wins both Presidential terms.
I usually solve the Password Puzzles before The Contestants do!
I Strongly Prefer Gene Wood as the Announcer
Same
I loved them both
Bob Hilton also did a week!
Super Password was better than Password Plus.
Agreed. Especially during the years when Brandon Tartikoff ran NBC.
They each take turns giving a one-word clue to the puzzle above. "Awwwww -wwwww-awwe!" is NOT a word!!! Contestants\celebrities have been penalized for trying to sneak by non-existing\usable words.
Piece and peace are two different words. Not fair
I liked this show
Because knowledge is power, there is no "C" in "Sajak". 😁
3:10 Pat just practically plugged Press Your Luck... luckily, PYL aired at 10:30, leading into TPIR, but NBC (a d for the most part, Mark Goodson) could have been.impacted by this...
How did he plug PYL? 🧐

How Would Allen Ludden React, If He Found Out that Bert Convy Took Over His Show?
Allen Ludden was dead at that time; why would he care?
besides he liked Bert

They were either very lax or there was an early rule change. That yell was not a word.
According to my dictionary, there is no such word as pieceful. Therefore, when Gloria said "peaceful", it should not have been a form of the word "piece". But, you win some, you lose some.
Allowing homophones is one thing; doing a "form of" off them like that is another. I agree with you.
Too bad, that's how it works.
I agree. Dr. Goodwin wouldn’t have asked for a form of the word.
My main problem was Gloria’s Tarzan yell. Was that a word?
I wonder if Tom Kennedy would have hosted this if he wasn't busy hosting Body Language.
Yes, Judy, he would have.

10:34 A LOOK AT WHAT'S TO COME FOR THE NEXT FIVE YEARS!!!!!
What does this mean premier week? This premiered on Jan 8
While it did debut on 9/24/84, it's possible a station or two got a late start with it.
Didn't I see that Don guy on Scrabble? Didn't he win the championship on scrabble?
I liked the additions they added to Password when they invented Password Plus, but here I think the lily is just a bit too gilded. Compared to the drek that's created today, this is heaven; still, too much going on in my opinion
There's no C in sajak.
How is “piece” a form of the word “peaceful “
because the coin they flipped landed on tails.
Super password
Wendy should have won.
I don't care about the score. Wendy should have won!
Then you have no logic or understanding how games go.

Ghastly cheezy theme music. What happened to Score Productions? What happened to Bob Israel??
Score Productions provided the theme to this series.
