    People I know have decided to get back into fishkeeping because of my guppies. No matter how beautiful, fragile purebreds have given people the impression that fishkeeping is too difficult. My goal was to selectively mix guppies and only raise the healthiest fry to maturity. People ask what kind of fish the females are because they are so large and my next generations of females are becoming so colorful. Not knowing what you are going to get is a big part of the appeal of crossbreeding, and heartier fish bring people back into the hobby. I think your project is a worthy endeavor and will help bring people back to fishkeeping. Great video, as usual.

    Great fish room and well done on experimenting with your own strain. I think you are right that to be successful you have to have something different. It's hard work and takes time I'm sure but doing some experimental crosses is worthwhile, despite what others say. How on earth will new strains get created? I even heard that some strains that are popular now were created entirely by accident. Been enjoying a lot of your videos today, you've become one of my favorite TH-cam channels.

    Thanks for all the info and all the best with your breeding. Very inspirational to me for sure. What kind of snails do you have and why do you have them? Some people I see hate them and do all they can to get rid of them. It is confusing to me. Thanks for your help. Blessings!!

      Thanks for watching.
      I got them on accident but don't mind them. If cut back on feeding or get loaches they will disappear over time

    that's the whole idea I think is to enjoy what you get out of
    what you got to make it your own, that's what I'm doing with the
    mutt guppies I have & come up with a lot of different colors where
    who ever was to get any of mine would end up with some AWESOME
    guppies to work with to make what they want from them.

    Hello mitch. Well the guppies are comming along. As for the possiblity of a show strain i would say the purple painted could actually be shown in the ifga as purple aoc class in which you would have to enter 4 similar males and females to be recognized as your own strain and as bye the look of things you have that already accomplished so good for you and a job well done. Also what happened to the albino guppies you were working on. Ron. Z.

      Thank you. I'm breeding the guppies I think look best and don't show them so not a big concern of mine. I have gotten some albinos here and there but have never intentionally bred them

    Hi, I’ve got my tanks setup like what you do with acrylic yarn but I still notice the fry being eaten. Do you have any advice on suggestion for this? I’m trying to have as many fry survive as possible.
    Also, how old should the fry be before you breed them? Thanks for answering my question. New to the hobby.

    • @pittsburghpets3759
      @pittsburghpets3759  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Can tie it to a cork to float it, add more to the tank, use a sponge filter/filter over intake, lower or turn off lights when see big pregnant females, add a pile of large river rock in the tank, feed the tank with crush or fry food every day even if cant see them

      Not exactly mutts but to an extent, yes a little. Working on a color but more variety in their pattern. I want more of a rainbow effect :)

    You would have to isolate that strain of fry young. They can hold sperm for a long time and utilise it more than once.
