I once saw Les Paul when he used to appear at the Iridium in NYC. That night he gave a visiting guest guitarist a playful hard time because he didn't know what legato was. Now I finally know what he meant. Thanks Justin!

And that sir is what makes you not just a " GOOD" guitar 🎸 teacher but a " BRILLIANT " GUITAR TEACHER... AND LOVE❤️ IT OR NOT YOU HAVE FOUND YOUR CALLING... THERE IS NO-ONE ELSE ON THE SAME plane or level of seriously ORGANISATION SKILLS!! GO JUSTIN!! GUITAR TEACHER OF THE YEAR AWARD 🏅🏅🏅🥇
This is great basic technique advice. It kind of speaks to what I was on about last week, in response to Justin's "What RU practicing 2day?" thing, which for me was the cascading pentatonic thingy.. I love watching basic technique stuff. Nobody is too big for thier boots to benefit from such sound (pun there, see what I did there?) advice. Nice one Justin. 🎶👏👍
Great lesson! One question I have is I notice many of your videos (and many other teacher's videos) where minor pentatonic is involved, it is always using position 1. Is position 1 used most by guitarists or is it just better for demonstrating concepts?
Good question! Pattern 1 is very accessible, very easy to learn, has options for lots of quick licks and improv ideas. Cheers 😊 | Richard_close2u | JustinGuitar Official Guide & Approved Teacher
Hey Justin. Great advice 👏🏼 I only play acoustic guitar so I’m wondering if there is anything different you might suggest for us? I notice most YT guitar teachers showing scales and solo building blocks do so on electric guitars.
Great sidebar on the angle fingers and that whole use of the third finger instead of the fourth. Finger selection is somethings I always ponder with. I do well with my pinky even in string bending but all of my heroes use their third or even their second ( Frank Marino) on bends. It's good explore both. I tend to use the third more as I go up the boxes up the neck like the E box at the 12th on up. There it seems a lot more right but a lick using the blue note on the G string in a 3 note sequence isn't quite as smooth ie going 3rd to 2nd and whole tone down to one. But I probably need to practice that too
Yes, they work on acoustic. Electric guitars through amplifiers have the advantage of amplification of the sound but you should be able to hear them on acoustic, perhaps quiet at first but perseverance will pay off. Cheers 😊 | Richard_close2u | JustinGuitar Official Guide & Approved Teacher
justin are you gonna re-do your intermediate course like you did the beginner? im kinda stuck at like a mid intermediate zone and i'm bouncing around YT too much wasting my time. i would prefer to just stick with you and marty instead of all the gazillion other teachers online

Love the clarity and patience that Justin puts into his lessons. Nothing is ever glossed over or rushed.
Appreciate that :) cheers
“Flick off” is a great description of the action rather than years of inaudible pull offs. 👍
:) I think it's apt!
For me a pull off is totally different to a flick off

10:30 The interlude we didn't know we needed. 👏

¡Gracias!
Thanks for the support! Cheers :)
good exercise
Great lead technique. I usually do a series of 4 notes because it sounds faster. A guitar with a low action really allows your fingers to fly.
Finger strength is key. I learned that 25 years ago. Must workout too. Helps with grip
Yep - if you following the course you would have been doing Finger Gym for a few months before hitting this!
Beautiful legato sir
Justin just commenting to say you rock and if I don't sound like crap today I owe it to you
Cheers to that! :) Keep at it
Very good tutorial thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching :)
Love this lesson!!💯🙏🏽
Cheers!

Sounds like just a practice thing!
Do hammer ons and flick offs only work on electric guitars, or can you use them on acoustic guitars as well?
Yes, they work on acoustic. Electric guitars through amplifiers have the advantage of amplification of the sound but you should be able to hear them on acoustic, perhaps quiet at first but perseverance will pay off.

how to play half of R U Mine by Arctic monkeys
Request it here! www.justinguitar.com/songs#requests-board cheers :)
Years of bad habits have resulted in me flicking up, not down. Reversing this is not easy!
Ah so that’s why blues players fingers look different in the high string riffs? Blues finger? Using three fingers angled instead of the pinky?
