I just unboxed my new TC1 tester today. Charged it until the LED turned green. Dead! No joy. Searched TH-cam for TC1 tester repair, & found your day saving video. Thank You! Worked like a charm!
You surely made my day ! Thanks for the excellent tip! I drilled a 3 mm hole in the front side panel, at about the same position as the charging LED hole, but at the far right end side. Then I made the hole to a small horizontal rectangular slot, and glued a miniature slide switch to the inside of the side panel, as a small power on/off switch.
Hi, just seen this video. I have one like this but not in the case. It keeps showing bad or unknown part. I'm going to try this reset on it. Thanks great video.
My TC1 has a connector so I don't have to desolder the battery, but this fix doesn't help :( It was working fine one minute, then it said to charge the battery, then the screen stopped coming on altogether. I charge it and the light goes green after a few seconds, but I can no longer get anything on the screen :( I'd hardly used this, it was sitting on standby in case I ever needed it and then died lol
this just happened to mine thats the same. unplugging didnt work. thought it might be the cheap battery. metered it and its showing 4v so its not that either :(
Same for me. Just tested it with a few transistors, the remote IR for codes, left it to charge and half an hour later dead... The connector gives 4.1V when plugged in and the battery sustains the voltage. The light is green but nobody is home. Came in today and already dead.
Hey there Mon Ami ..... I am glad I stumbled across your video ... I've been having my tester for 3 years now and it acted up today, it wouldn't turn off and it was frozen in the no part or bad part mode... I knew it needed a reset , but how was the 64,000.00 $$ question .... I searched TC1 tester reset and nothing came up , so I reworded the search and voila you came up , Thanks for the tip on taking the battery out of the circuit , BTW mine had a plug on the end of it .... I joined your channel and rang the bell .....Thanks again..
Thank you for the tip! My tester is otherwise just like your tester but has a connector for the battery on the pcb. So, one can't really say that chinese RD engineer hasn't done anything to mitigate this problem in later revisions.. If this problem will persist I guess I'll take a little bit similar step like chinese engineer and install a nc reed relay or mercury switch.
My TC1 switches ON but only detects a 5V cell whatever is connected to it (and whatever the pins). I thought that maybe the ZIF socket had its pins oxydated and made the test fail, but I opened the casing, directly soldered some flying leads from the 1-2-3 points on the PCB to some grip-wires and the problem is the same ! If anyone found a fix for this, I'd definitely want to hear from you !
According to a post on EEV Blog forums ( titled *"TC1 lcr-meter transistor-tester fix"* ), originally posted by user "zappenduster" on 21st June 2018, user "indman" replied (1st July 2018) that you should try: - either removing the component (marked by DZ1 on the PCB) 6V8A (which is a zener diode). - OR removing the 6-pin component V05 (on the PCB it is marked by DZ2). It's full model name is SRV05-4. If the problem remains, then you have damaged the ATMega324 processor. In that case you're going to have to get a replacement one and a new firmware is necessary. Meaning you'll have to reprogram it. 🤔😕😟 But do read that outlined topic on that forum for more possible ideas on fixing it.
According to a post on EEV Blog forums ( titled *"TC1 lcr-meter transistor-tester fix"* ), posted by user "zappenduster" on 21st June 2018 the gadget consumes about 0,2 mA in Standby/Power-Off mode. 🤔😉🙄 That means 150 mAh per month (0,2 mA x 24 h x 31 days). So a fully charged battery would be drained after three months of non-use. 🤔😕😞😟😳
I believe I have the same problem. Screen randomly starts flashing on and off and then it shuts down. I will try cutting a little hole on the side with a dremel and adding a switch.

I have a TC1 AND did a test on a 9volt battery cell and now when i want to start it , i get short a white screen and shuts down. Is there somewhon now's how to repair this ?

The problem with my one is its stuck in battery testing mode. Won't go back to capacitance testing for some reason. I have taken out the battery and put it back but still the same.
Anyone have one that turns on but has a blank screen. Backlight comes on but nothing shows up. I disconnected and reconnected the battery.... Still get a blank screen

doesnt work with me i have short maybe its on the v05 ic or some thing else this happend after i tested a capacitor many time many ways then oops it turned off and not turning on again
The tc1 brake it jst start to give flicering display etc.had 2 both just quit working as they should the 1 i got had a flickering display while testing. the second worked fine.have not used it for some time and recharged it ,no luck with selftest.it also suddenly got display flickering.it is bonkers
have a look here... this chap found a shorted cap on the dc - dc converter for the zener tester www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/tc1-lcr-meter-transistor-tester-fix/
Mi tester al medir capacitores me muestra una fuente. Esto paso por medir un capacitor y no descargarlo antes, por lo que se dañó y ya no mide capacitores. Alguien sabe cómo arreglarlo?

Nice idea, batt life now is longer, we now have a reset, software never gets tired... it lasts for ever... so thanks a lot.
I have same problem. Tester comes alive once in a awhile but then it's dead. The reset fix in this video works sometimes. Battery fully charged.

Worked. Though I have a TC-7h which comes with a connector so you need not to desolder anything. Just disconnect and connect after 10secs. Thanks.
You sir are a legend! Just did this and it worked!

Did exactly as you said and it worked.
Can't thank you enough!🍺
Or, since you have to open it up and use your soldering iron anyway, solder in a breaker switch which will act as a reset switch next time it happens.

Mine switches on but the display is all lit up, completely white :-(

Nice man. My TC1 back to normal.
I got a cap discharged during testing it charges but won't turn on.
Do u have an idea how to fix it??
Same problem. Can't fix it the way suggested.

I might put a switch in mine when I get it
