What an incredible experience for me to hear this! I lived down the road from Robert Moog, learning of his synthesizer as a teenager. At more or less the same time, I read and fell in love with The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings. To top it all off, my mother was a first generation Finnish American who gave me my appreciation for literature and an interest in her mysterious tongue. It is no wonder that Tolkien chose this unique language as a base for his Elvish lexicon. Some years later, my husband gave me a beautiful gift of a Kantele, which I passed on to our son, an avid string musician. Talk about degrees of separation. This theremin/kantele piece describes several connections in my life. Thank you, Peter Pringle.
Have you and David Lynch ever talked. You should score one of his movies. It's so haunting and deep. The bass strings do have such a resonance. I'm in love with this music.
As a finn, I really enjoy the kantele being used.. especially in such a beautiful way. Very nice melody.. and the theremin is just hauntingly beautiful with it.
Csodálatos! Varázslat! Ez a két hangszer... és a nagy mágus! Rendszeresen hallgatom és minden elismerésem az ősi hangszerek és dallamvilág megszólaltatásáért! :)
Can honestly say I’ve never heard anything quite like that. Funny to hear my brain trying to categorize it, slide guitar, kyoto, harp, hawaiian. Elegant hand ‘dancing’
You are so unbelievably talented. You can pick up absolutely anything and find its reason for existing. So thankful we have people like you with this gift.
As a Finn, it's great to hear you play the kantele. I love your work and especially the Sumerian performances, it would be really interesting to hear what you could do with just a basic 5-string kantele, like the poem-singers of old.
The Theremin is the most fantastic instrument I have ever heard. This tune played on it almost brought me to tears, and it takes a lot to do that. I'd like to hear some modern tunes played on it. The Kantele is, to me, like a horizontal harp and he plucked it like a harp and also played it like a slide guitar or a Dobro. I'd love to know the name of the tune being played. If anyone knows then please say in a comment. Thanks.
Bravo Peter. I have heard the Kantele playied a number of times in Finland and on recordings, but you are right the electronic 'kahuna' 38 string approaches the dampened electronic hammered dulcimer in diversity. I loved the sound and your composition. Many thanks.
Apparently very good artists playing in the background. But I'm sure you can play on any stage in the world, without hide you. Thank you for the beautiful music.
Bravi to the instruments and performance, I want one of each for Christmas - I love their sounds and like the music and will listen more. Darn theremin always brings me to tears. With respect and regards-John
After hearing this beautifully crafted composition, I must say it is now among my favorites in its respective genre of music, and I find myself listening to it quite often. Great work!
THIS IS THE MOST AWESOME MUSIC IV,E EVER LISTEN TO, I NEED TO GET ONE OF THOSE THERAMINS QUICK, I DON,T THINK I,D SLEEP ANY MORE, I,D BE PLAYING IT NON STOP UNTIL I MASTERED IT. THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO
Lemminkainen must've had a beautiful dream, b/c that was amazing~! this brings back so many memories from 10th grade! yep, definitely gonna have to reread the Kalevala! ^ _____ ^ thanks for the great vid!!!
Wonderful! Again a perfect combination of performance, lighting and setting. And the composition is really lovely. Here I saw for the first time the modified stand of your EPro. That looks really fine! Thank you very much, Peter
It's really amazing to be able to play music that can sound like a human voice, by waving his hands in the air between two antennas. After that we can not say that the waves have no effect. QED
It's so cool to see someone with a Theramin who can actually play it properly.
And this is lovely.
Carolina Eyck plays some amazing stuff with it.
This is Kantele
Katica Illényi is
That electric Kantele has an exquisite, rich sound. Your mastery of the Theremin is inspiring and beautiful.
wonderful music to hear Patricia
I know this video is over decade old, but can we get more Theremin with
electric Kantele.
its really giving me chills from other worlds.
At the start I was reminded of the old west gun slingers and dusty canyons. Anyone else get that?
+Siggy Cloud Yes. Very like Morricone.
I hear a Borderlands wastelands at the start.
Great. Now I can not hear that and see that. As well as later in the song it sounds like we are walking around the streets during the Ming dynasty.
Yes i heard that aswell
Exactly

I have never heard someone play the theremin so beautifully. My wife mistook it for a Chinese violin because she couldn't see the screen.

2022 and this popped up on my recommended. Still awesome.
Good theremin players are a rare breed.
It must be very difficult to play Theremin, but you do it amazingly clean and the melody is charming. Thank you for the Music.
I remember listening to this when I was a little kid. it took me years to find this again. I'm so happy i found it again
Can honestly say I’ve never heard anything quite like that. Funny to hear my brain trying to categorize it, slide guitar, kyoto, harp, hawaiian.

Ugh yes
I don't know how in the world anyone could ever master such a bizarre but haunting instrument. Fascinating!
Solo una profonda e completa sensibilità musicale può riuscire a coniugare così bene l'antico e il moderno. Bravo!
Wunderbar. A fantastic performance. Excellent musicianship. BRAVO.
Thank you for your masterful composition and performance, and your interest in the Finnish culture. You are truly an amazing musician.
Absolutely fascinating and mesmerizing!
I just discovered both of these instruments and they are already on par with opers, violion, piano, and cello!
I've never heard a pleasant song played on the theremin until now, great playing

You are so unbelievably talented. You can pick up absolutely anything and find its reason for existing. So thankful we have people like you with this gift.
The first couple of notes had me waiting for Walker Texas Ranger to step out. In spite of that, this is really fantastic. Absolutely beautiful.
Greetings from Finland. The kantele is a traditional old Finnish player. This was a great video. The great thing about music.
That was breath-taking and soul-shaking. Thank you for the marvelous mental moments.
