@@koolmaaan Has it? While there is no disputing the marketing success that is the NFL (as much a fashion brand as a sports brand) in terms of global popularity it lags miles behind football. True there are American Football clubs all over the globe , but they are a seriously niche interest. American football abroad isn't even comparable to the popularity of Football/Soccer in the US, which is considered not very popular. NFL has not really caught on outside the US in any meaningful at all. If you want to look at more successful American sport export then I'd say Basketball has enjoyed far more success.

Yes there are crazy people out there who will sit through 6 hours of Ads, to watch more ads and a half time show, the sport never gets going, one touch a break and an ad, another touch let's wrap them up and go for another ad, oh look they got back on the field (since you call it a field and not a pitch) wait they touched the ball let's go for another ad while the players take another break from exchausting themselves for touching the ball for three seconds.
I can see why college American football is more popular, there are less breaks and ads.

The SB can also be tough for fans abroad due to the timezone differences, where it will be super late night in Europe and Monday morning in Asia. But as someone already mentioned, the 2/3 US population figure also has to account for the fact that not all of them are watching the sport itself, but SB is an annual American tradition for house parties where a lot of people just want to watch the commercials and the half-time show.

That wasn’t an accident. Yes, football has seen a serious rise in popularity amongst younger generations, but it wasn’t the younger folks they were talking to…it was the geezers, the restaurant and hotel companies and tourism agencies. Where I live, Texas, has two host cities in Dallas and Houston and AT&T Stadium is a possible site for one of the final four games because of the seating capacity and controlled climate, and we also have high Hispanic and Latin populations. Now usually Americans don't really care about it but if I were an American athlete I'd be sad to know the whole system actually concieves product placements as the focal point of what I do rather than just a mean to capitalize on the market like elsewhere in the world.

But the way in which American sports were designed to advertise products was already efficient back in the 1930s, but it got to a point in the late 90s, in which there's swimming pools in NFL stadiums, while a gorgeous piece of history and architecture such as the Hubert Humphrey Metrodome was left to rot until it litterally collapsed on itself.
Imagine the memmories of all of those people whitnessed games and athletes who played there going kaput in a flash like they were nothing.

I think the Shows they put up during their "matches" has more viewership. Dr Dre, Snoop Dogg, Mary J Blige, Hendrick Lamar and Eminem. It's literally the only reason some of us watched that channel for longer than 15 minutes.
The only American football player I know is Brady something.(I'm not going to google his name.)

I watch both sports, but I'm the only person I know here in the US that watches international ⚽(yes, I'm serious). If I asked a friend to name a top football/soccer player, they'd probably be similar to you with Brady, and only be able to name somebody like Ronaldo, and even then they wouldn't know where he plays or where he's from 😂
I feel like I get the best of both worlds as a fan of both sports, but I feel bad for those on both sides that miss out on the best of each side. There are things in American football I miss sorely when I just watch football/soccer, and vice versa.

I’d find a UCL vs Super Bowl comparison more interesting. Annual single game finals that decide the best team in the world of their respective sports at the team. Both the events the seasons lead up to. That’d be more apt

The simple fact of asking that question is blasphemy...
Ok the Superbowl is extremely popular but it's mainly a US thing.
No matter how powerful it is over there: the money splashed to broadcast it , the commercials, medias hyping it up...
It all revolves around the US while the WC is really a worldwide event.

I think it's kinda ridiculous to compare Super Bowl to World Cup, Super Bowl is a Championship match in NFL or a grand finale of the season while the World Cup is a huge tournament for every country.BOTH OF THEM ARE HUGE.
For Association Football's perspective, the Super Bowl is like the average of the FA Cup Final or the UEFA Champions League Final. And I think it's pretty stupid to compare it to World Cup, Super Bowl happens at the first quarter every year right after their season and playoffs ends.

the world cup, even as an american, is clearly much bigger globally than the superbowl.
i will say for people who dont live in america, that the superbowl is unofficially a national holiday here. it is treated as the biggest sporting and pop cultural event of the entire year. the halftime show is watched by hundreds of millions around the world, and even the president addresses the country and interviews with the network broadcasting the super bowl before the game. so globally the world cup is bigger, but the superbowl is probably bigger in america that the world cup is in any individual country (unless you are playing in the final)

    • @HaileyTheThird
      @HaileyTheThird ปีที่แล้ว +10

That's more a commentary on America having an enormous population though. I'd think, percentage-wise, that the world cup is much bigger in South American nations than the Super Bowl is in the US, simply because of the smaller populations. Comparing the popularity of a sport played in one country with 350 million people to a sport played by many people across many smaller countries simply on numbers will never work, because the context of the comparison is so off.
Similarly, the viewership of Cricket matches is incredibly skewed because of the sport's popularity in India, so comparing any of the sports purely on numbers gets nowhere.

Out of the 300 million in the US, not everyone watches the NFL. So, even in that case let's say 200 million vs 4 billion. World Cup is massively bigger. No brainer.

It can also be said that in the US (solely) World Cup viewership is around 5 million, compared to the 200 million in the US (solely) for Super Bowl viewers. The US has quite a ways to go in viewership of arguably the Great Game on Earth.

The term football once applied to a variety of sports all characterised by the fact that they were played on foot (as opposed to horseback). This included rugby football (the father of handegg) and association football.

People saying this isnt a relevant video are obviously unaware of how much larger the Super Bowl is than anything football (soccer) related is in the US. This video seems obvious to most of the world, but it's pretty interesting and relevant context for people in the US who can tend to see the Super Bowl as the "greatest show on Earth" and underestimate the scale of global football
