That is a very interesting question. I don't have any information on that offhand, BUT, I do know that there have been people in geography who have studied comic books and I THINK some of that material has been, published. Their approach could be used as a basis. I would also recommend that you look up "popular geopolitics". I know there is publishing information on that and what they talk about could be useful to you.
