Always a go to movie.
“He spared me because he wanted me to live in shame. This was a great man.”
2:36 love that roar, if I were Di Caprio I'd be terrified
I dunno why but ‘that’s a wound” is my favourite line hahah
It's a call back to when he was teaching Vallon about wounds earlier in the movie.
Imagine if rockstar made a game about this
The Warriors was a great game, they’d be able to make something amazing if they tried.
I'll say even to this day that the warriors was rockstar's best game
Red Dead is the closest thing
"The heart? This boy has no heart". This got me every time.
Can you imagine burning a man's face with a searing hot iron after he tried to kill you. Such disrespect. Such anger.
thx for the badass scar and the back story
You mentioned DiCaprio and Diaz in the title like they were the biggest stars here.
Amazing!
How does Daniel do that. Down to the body language, he nails it every time.
because he was a terrific actor who shone in every role he played. there will be blood being the prime example
He lives as the character for a long period of time. That's why he goes into a depression after they're done filming. He has a hard time letting go.
Leonardo is a decent actor. but Daniel just makes Leo look like an amateur.
Leo became a much better actor after this movie (in case you haven’t seen them wolf of Wall Street, the departed, the aviator, the revenant, Django Unchained etc show how good he is at acting
The butcher basically did the exact same thing the priest did : his opponent acted in a cowardly way, so he let him live in shame, knowing he'd one day come back with more vigor and courage to fight him face to face.
3:10 Peewee Herman: I say we let him go.
Crowd: NO!!!
The big problem with this movie is Diaz and DiCaprio. They are completely outmatched by DDL . There will be Blood is better because its basically DDL alone for most of the movie.
The older I got the more I appreciate this movie
Table is on fire... In all honesty, trying to take revenge on your enemy in front of a whole crowd knowing very well that there's 0 chance of getting out alive is not a plan well thought out. Just my two cents.
I think it was the symbolism of doing it on the anniversary of his dad's death. And he was all messed up in the head, duty to his dad, but his genuine love of Bill as a surrogate father was fucking with him.
@@nicksincredibleopinion he also knew that bill had worked out who he was by taking the girl away and how he looked at him when taking the shot
If his dad was a ghost would he be like "idiot, if yer goin' to kill 'em it doesn't have to be flashy or impressive, put down those bloody poetry books and stories just get the job done! Now the whole towns going know he killed and owned us both you fool! Son, they're laughing at me here in the afterlife, you fuck this up we really have no where to go!"
@@joeytosoung4840 if bill did not get the tip off he would not have known it was coming sense amstadn had gained bills complete trust. Also his gang was there to aid him and would have tajen everyone off guard if they did not know
Dont really care for this movie but I will click on a clip of this movie every time.
Love this scene so much just shows how much respect the antagonist has for the protagonist to the point he or she doesn't wanna kill em they just want them to suffer through their failure
He knows who Leo's father is, so he took inspiration and spared him the same way his father spared him to live in shame
It can be worse to live on than to be ended.
It wasn't out of respect. He wanted Leo to be scarred and burnt forever
are you slow?
@@martincurran6432 He wanted Leo to rise back up like he did
an extraordinary acting performance
God, that English man's American accent is fabulous
Thanks
The butcher was a brutal character ruthlessly dispatched anyone dirty and all.
Master class in acting
2:50 "What'll it be then ?. Rib or chop. Loin or shank.!" -- real life butcher's jargon !
I absolutely recommend this movie for the old timers like me.
1:18 Tarantino uses this same extreme close up shot on Leo when he gets shot in Django Unchained. The gun shot sound effect too.
Interesting you say that because Tarantino is a HUGE fan of Martin Scorsese and got alot of his ideas from him
@@detroitlionspistonstigersr6735 He might have copied it from here, Tarantino is very unoriginal.
Legend has it that when the Butcher says “in honor of Priest Vallon” while glaring at Dicaprio, that Dicaprio shit his pants and ran offstage
The way bill finesses with those knives
I love that TH-cam autoplays what looks like an important scene immediately after I pulled up a trailer for this film I've never seen :-|
Daniel day Lewis, best actor to act in holly weird.
This boy has no heart
Best Daniel Day lewis's performance ever in this movie in my opinion
Priest left the Butcher in the same state, then the Butcher came back to end the Priest. The Butcher left Amsterdam in the same state so he could ultimately do the same. I think by the end of the movie Bill had become weary of the life,he fought, but not with the fervor he did earlier in the movie.
A whole movie, film, on refusing deaths, refusals of deaths.
I always thought The Butcher was a huge fan of Danzig.
“Do you want to bang heads with me?”
leo needed a twist of cain
Love the sound of Bill's voice when he asks, "What'll it be then?! Rib or chop?! Loin or shank??!" - Woulda loved to see a darker Diablo 3 with the Butcher referencing this line...
2020 TH-cam algorithm leads me here. Prequel to The Great Showman...
One of Scorses best movies. Very underrated
3:05 The appendix!
Don’t you have some videotapes to return?
What a scene! As others have said, i get chills everytime i see this. He should have won an oscar for this too
How come Daniel Day Lewis , didn't when an Oscar for this performance? Wow..
He does have three?! But, yeah he was brilliant in this.
This is a wonderful movie, Bill the butcher, and his little sheriff. The little sheriff that gets himself fish hooked to the point of hollering 🤣 😂
Amsterdam somehow survives after taking six headbutts.
Headbutting isn't that fatal
@Dowhat Iwant What if that was me? I'd probably be in a coma. I might be wrong but even my brain wont take it.
@@therealwewin 6 in a row from a guy with a really tough cranium could be for the average joe, tho probably people at that time to survive at the age of 40 you would need a really thick skull and the ability to absorb damage
I couldn’t help but think, “Jesus Christ, dipshit, why didn’t you LEAD WITH THE PISTOL?!?!?!?”
1:17 - 1:19 i felt that in my reproductive organs
This movie really great
Say what you want about bill but he was very good with public relations
When you transformed a role into art .
This film had 10 oscar noms & didnt win a single one even Lewis didn't win Best Supporting Actor
Lost to Adrian Brody for the pianist. You probably know this but I needed to look up who could possibly beat Lewis in this movie. By all accounts he became Bill the butcher during filming and never left character even when off screen.
Because it was absolute shite.
Patrick cross gangs of New York was shite? 😂 yea okay buddy
Unbelievable... Oscars are BS...
An oscar is simply the opinion of a group of people.
There is so much acting in this scene, you can barely tell the actors are acting.
Notice how similar the camerawork is when Leo gets shanked in this scene compared to in Django Unchained when Shultz shoots him. I wonder if that was a deliberate homage on Tarantino's part
