- There are two series of banknotes. The first series comprises seven different denominations: €5, €10, €20, €50, €100, €200 and €500. The second series, or Europa series, consists of six denominations and was completed with the issuance of the €100 and €200 on 28 May 2019. The €500 banknote was not included in the Europa series and as of 27 April 2019 is no longer being issued. The first series of notes, originally issued in 2002, is gradually being replaced by the Europa series. All the notes are legal tender throughout the euro area.

@@terrybaker8156 500 Euros banknotes are still accepted by the European central bank, but they don't make new ones.
I breath a sigh of relief there's no new 500€ note,

The Europa banknotes are more vibrant and modern looking than the first series. And almost no one used 500€ banknotes therefore it's not a big deal that they are no longer made.
The main reason they discontinued the 500€ notes was because of its use in drug trade and because terrorist organizations used the 500€ notes cause they were more versatile than the 100$ notes
It's the reason some places called the note the "bin laden"
We used them a lot here in the south

High value notes are good for saving up, if you aren't interested in supporting the banking system. Devaluing the note always start with the highest note, and people are like "who cares" then it becomes the 200 euro note. then the 100 note, until it's like in South Africa where their highest note is 200 rand which is only 11.18 euros.
@@ThomasNoname here in UK our highest is £50 note, never understood why we don't have 100 and 200 notes like euro's do...regardless cash is useless nowadays, everything is contactless and phone
@@Gencturk92 Just because the elevator exists, does not mean we don't use stairs. Cash is a means to privacy and freedom, having everything centralized, would be horrible.
The new series is much nicer, more elegant and modern, but I think some people just love to feel nostalgic about the past. That's just my modest opinion anyway, while intending no offense to anyone.

@Erikson189Sven Its very high value encouraged money laundering and organized crime by the ability to illegally transfer huge sums of cash with a very small size of money, without being that much useful and practical for the ordinary person on the other hand. Therefore, it was deemed infeasible to keep printing.

Since they added the Cyrillic in the newer notes, why make them so faded that you can barely even see it?

In the europa series displayed here, the €5 is printed in bank of Greece(Y), €10 in banque de France (U), €20, €50 n €200 in banca d'italia (S), €100 in most probably F. C. Oberthur (E) as shown, in the first letters of the serial numbers of corresponding notes of denominations. Please correct me if I was wrong

@@patrickbateman1540 barely any stores accept 500€ notes, but when they do they are sent to the bank and taken out of circulation.

The euro is so bland the is no goddess on them or gods for Europeans culture
You can call euros all you want but not bland. they are really modern, elegant and sleek. Plus they represent Roman, gothic and the Renaissance time period
I fully agree. They could have used back designs from different counties like with the coins. The banknotes have no soul
