I watched Cheryl Scott explain it live as it was happening and she did a great thorough job. Hope she gets a raise for her dedicated work.

She really did, I was watching it live as well and all of them Cheryl Scott, Phil Schwarz, Larry Mowry, and of course Greg Dutra reporting from Woodridge was just so informative. I love channel 7 because of their weather team

I watched the live coverage as well. And as a Skywarn spotter I have no doubt that Cheryl and the crew's repeated comments of go to your "safe place" saved lives

3:14 My house was under that red line (Bailey road, essentially). My original worry was closing my van windows before the rain came. It turned our that the rain went "down" horizontally. Amazing horizontal rain. Never seen the 100 year red oak in my front yard move its limbs like that. Hardly any breakage on that tree. Two lots away the fire station with its siren blaring had a 40-ft 2-ft diameter pine land on its roof. They removed it today. I liked it just the way it was though.

The last time I saw horizontal rain was in 1990 during the Plainfield Il F5 Tornado. 💯👀
      I definitely understand your amazement!

I was also right under that red line. That rain was absolutely insane. And the winds were so loud. It was crazy. Not much damage on my street, just a few things here and there but definitely a lot a couple blocks away. The houses over by the old ide Christmas tree farm had a lot of damage. Glad everyone was okay though

I HAVE SEEN HORIZONTAL RAIN IN NORTH CAROLINA MANYYEARS AGO. COMING FROM NEW ENGLAND THAT NEVER OCCURS...THE RAIN WAS ACTUALLY FALLING SIDEWAYS!

This tornado tracked just two blocks north of where I live. Correction to what was reported here in that the EF3 damage actually occurred in Naperville, although both Naperville and Woodridge sustained heavy damage. Certainly not Mayfield, KY level damage but bad none the less. Given such a highly populated area and a nighttime tornado, it was really a miracle it wasn't much worse.

This was a scary one and as recorded a more powerful tornado than originally thought. Was watching it live on the news. Hearing every reporter telling those in the western burbs to "get to shelter immediately - we have a confirmed tornado on the ground" and reports that passengers at Midway Airport were running for the tornado shelter areas there was also scary. The more I learn about this tornado the more terrifying it is. Advanced warning systems thankfully saved a lot of people since this could have been much worse.
And seeing that was on the ground for 15 miles and headed toward the city is also something to think about...

I was 10 mins away wen the tornado hit ground. I was in a car with my 7 year old. I was on my way to chicago after celebrating fathers day and I never though this could be possible. The rain was really bad, the air was pushing my car side ways and the most scary part was wen all the lights wen of and car was moving so bad, for a min a though we were going to die. I had the feeling the tornado was near us, but we couldn't see anything. My son was crying and I was shaking like I never did before. 😞😞

I was watching youtube in Burger King and went home about 9:00.
Gray skies but everything was perfectly normal.
I fell asleep and about 11:30 I was woken by Tornado Sirens.
I looked outside and paid attention to the weather.
I turned on the radio and it was saying danger areas were both north and south of me.
North of Chicago into Winnetka and South by Naperville, Woodridge, DownersGrove.
I am terrified now of everything it seems. At least we don't have earthquakes which I hear are VERY Scary.

Oh it's not so bad. Been in 4. Once downtown San Francisco at work. I bolted took the stairs everyone followed. Never take elevator. Other ones just rolling. Now I'm here in northern California we had one in Truckee felt it rolling here in Marysville. We will get some, near a sleeping volcano, had tornado warning few years ago, oh well. Just keep gas tank full go bags backed and run for the hills. Hope u stay safe. Take care.

355 actually. I was wondering that as well especially like semis I mean tornadoes can easily pick up those trailers and throw them. I did see yesterday night a couple accidents along 355 on Google Maps after the tornado came through so I’m going to guess it did cause a few accidents
