Your long-form videos are the best ear training lessons for guitarists that I’ve found. My student’s ability to hear the subtlety between related diminished scales and intervals in general after spending time with your channel have been greatly improved. And so is mine!

Dude went back again. The description on the major 7th is so helpful. Chasing where the bb7 becomes a major 7 through each voicing is SO helpful! Anyone can hear it and play it but when you really learn whatever happening you can transpose it!

There is a year worth of i studying in here...I have been coming back to this on a monthly basis and only now do I understand all of the theory it imies and Sometimes I just love to hear and intellectualize how the intervals chaange symmetrically in relation to each other. giving unique voicings and harmonic possibilities. ImYou could apply this scale to giant steps andghet some pretty outside sounding voicings.

I'd love to see you make a video on building speed and your specific alternate picking technique. Some of the first few lines and patterns really trip me up. The up/down ascending (or the descending) one is especially tricky! Just thought I'd throw it out there, because I see you play a difficult run probably faster than I can play any ol' easy run and then when I try it, I'm like "wait, I don't think I've ever even played a line with this particular picking pattern before!" and I move as slow as a newborn on it.

Scapegoat blues…a good example. Great lesson. I wish I was able to apply all this information. I find symmetrical scales the most difficult to keep track of intervals and functionality.

    • @chromaticswing9199
      @chromaticswing9199 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Well that’s the thing with symmetrical scales: they elude functional harmony. By their very structure, tonality is not something that’s automatically provided, but is something you have to actively highlight. Moreover, you can decide to highlight multiple tonal centers if need be!

Wow! Very interesting! So every note of a diminished chord can become an inversion of a diminished major 7th by moving a whole step up and an inversion of a dominant by moving a half step down...This got me wondering if the augmented chord hides some secrets like this one, since it is also symmetrical. As things are going I guess it probably does...

    Diminished is a good study.
Diminished , altered Dim and loc Dim are the main 3 but there are other "modal" Diminished.
    4 in harmonic minor
    4 in harmonic major
    4 in hungarian major
    4 in Romainian major
    Loc6, dor#4, lyd#2, altbb7
    Dorb5, lydb3, lydaug#9, locbb7
    Lyd dom#9, altbb6bb7, alt6, dor b2#4
Lyd aug#9#3, aeolb5bb7, Mel minb5, lyd augb3 (lyd dim aug)
With the 2 modes of octatonic diminished that's all of them from what I remember. There always more though but these are the most useful from the most common parent scales.
    18 all together.
