- Sorry for the Holdup! I had.... a lot to say about this game, as you could probably tell. Believe it or not, the original script was much longer, and probably would have clocked in at about an hour if I hadn't re-wrote the script a couple times.
Hopefully next video won't take as long!
I should also mention that the source of the information on the development of Sonic 3 were from Sonic Retro. I only really glazed over the full development story, so if you're up for it, why not click the links and give the articles a full read?

Great Video! A massive amount of effort was put into this, especially for a small channel.
Something that would improve the entire video by a massive amount is to make your voice louder. The music always feels like getting in the way of hearing what you're saying. Generally, better sound design is what this video needs.
The background for most of the video is also a bit bland, but that's more of a nitpick.

In regards to Sonic 3 & Knuckles Origins (and also just general recommendations for ways to play this game in a slightly more modern/updated context)
Uh, it's okay... I think the widescreen definitely is a plus, and it adds some pretty decent quality of life stuff, notably Big Arms returning in the full experience (a boss which was absent with just the two carts put together), and there's an added transition from Launch Base to Mushroom Hill. That, plus the standard quality of life stuff in Origins as a whole makes it a pretty solid official way to play it
Downside, some of the music is muffled, some songs have been replaced with prototype versions (but older, pre-November 93 prototype versions that don't sound as good), and there's now a custom hyper theme which is just kinda eh. And the physics aren't exactly 1 to 1, given that it's based on the retro engine. Still a pretty good version of the game though (it was a lot rougher at launch though because I don't think Headcannon was able to properly finish it, plus Sega just used an older version of the remake. Origins as a whole was updated a little bit after and improved *ALL* the games on it though, so that's good at least)
Now, a lot of the pros of Origins can also be found in both 3 Complete and 3 AIR, plus they give a lot of customization options, including moving Flying Battery back to it's original intended spot between Carnival Night and Icecap. 3 Complete is an amazing way to play the game on real hardware but you do miss out on widescreen. It also includes Genesis renditions of the old PC port's songs (being slightly altered prototype tracks) and they sound pretty alright
3 AIR is both widescreen and has mod support, and has more default customization options (including a remastered OST, the original prototype tracks from the November 93 build, and some quality of life stuff like the level layouts or even the amount of hits the LRZ boss takes). Some features and options from 3 Complete aren't included in base 3 AIR, but can be included with mods. Plus the modding scene for it is absolutely insane, so it's definitely worth looking into and is my go to way to play Sonic 3 & Knuckles
tl;dr, Origins is good but does have some weird quirks attached to it, 3 Complete and 3 AIR are better ways to play but may be a hassle to set up compared to just buying Origins. It depends what you're looking for

From what I've heard they are still just straight up using prototype tracks, just older ones that weren't as polished. The muffled audio certainly doesn't help either
I think they were the same versions used as a base for the S&K Collection music too, or at least from around the same time
