The framework in which the West is trying to push Russia is clearly too small for Russia and Russia is capable not only of breaking down the walls in which they are trying to put it, but also of changing the conditions and principles by which our World lives. A last comment: I'm so glad our NATO partners understand the importance of the oil and gas reserves we have here, in addition to the cables connecting the largest satelite base in the world, at Svalbard, that the Russians have already disrupted, among an unknown number of others, going to Britain and further on to USA, and how we all cooperate in defending these vital resources for our western civilization. Hoping to see more documentaries from the Northern Territories, that we used to be alone in defending here in Norway, and also Iceland was our responsibility, but now also Finland have joined us (!!!) and I hope also soon Sweden (perhaps USA can help put some pressure on Turkey, as this is the only thing that delay that very strong army to also be part of NATO? Turkey just refuse to realize that Sweden have Kurdish POLITICAL REFUGEES, that the Turks call "terrorists"...) Thank you again. 🙂
Norway is main benefactor of Russia-Ukraine war, increasing their gas sales manyfold! Sweeden knows who blew Russian pipeline, but will never tell on their lords in Washington!
I am sure they are carefully mapping out the exact location of the pipelines and fiber cables for planned sabotage. Unfortunately there may be no way to stop them. It's too large of an area to patrol 24/7 by NATO vessels. It would be even harder to stop explosives that may be dropped on the pipelines by their submarines.
Some things to note about Russian submarines- Russian subs are unreliable, dangerous and prone to fire, flooding and radiation exposure. Russian subs rarely travel more than a few hundred miles from their ports for fears of becoming disabled. Russia usually has no more than 0-5 subs at sea and those subs are operating at reduced capacity because of low quality materials, components and poor design. Russian undersea crews are sloppy and poorly trained. All nuclear submarines are enormously expensive to operate, maintain and repair so its not likely much will change with the Russian fleet.
Not to worry, because NATO has mapped where every Russian point of impotance is as well, and actually has the means to react quickly. After seeing Russia on land, I’m not concerned with their action on sea. My time in navy taught this to me!
Norway is main benefactor of Russia-Ukraine war, increasing their gas sales manyfold! Sweeden knows who blew Russian pipeline, but will never tell on their lords in Washington!
The Norwegian ship was not even out of port when they said they were rigging for dark on the bridge on patrol. Lotta buildings with lights in the near distance.
There was misinformation and redirection in the report. Why? It's always best to keep the bad guys guessing. The USN and RN have been tracking Russian SSN's, SSK's, SSGN's and SSBN's for decades off the Norwegian coast and deep into the Barents. I doubt anything has changed.
Things HAVE changed. Like China, they use hybrid warfare. Such as using trawlers to break the cables to the largest satellite station in the world, on Svalbard. And here in Norway we have simply not updated laws regarding the bottom of the sea since the 1850's or so, and so the police didn't know what to do. So we better wake up, and not think we "know it all". 🙂
I doubt it, but the Norwegian state, that have a massive fortune built up because of that oil, did start building up the Norwegian Navy long before the threat from Russia, and now even more money will be spent on it, and as with the Air Force, and the cooperation with the Joint Strike Fighter, to create jobs in both countries, I can only guess there will be more of everything, mutually benefiting, as long as we stick together. Something I'm sure we will. God bless the USA!
Where do you think most of the money for those ships and air assets come from? In Norway oil companies have to pay for drilling licenses as a percentage of the profits and also pay taxes on the profits.
Many if not most of the Norwegian petroleum operations are conducted by both Norwegian Crown (governmental) corporations, and by the Norwegian private sector. Statoil, NorskHydro, Saga Petroleum now all now largely a part of the Norwegian petroleum and petrochemical multinational (ops in 30 countries including Canada) EQUINOR! It's both heavily vertically and horizontally integrated both within 🇳🇴 Norway but also in many other countries. 🇨🇦 🍁 🇨🇦 PS That excellent reporting also emphasized that the Norwegian armed forces and their 30 NATO partners were working hand in hand with the surveillance, maintenance and protection operations of Norwegian oil and gas industry, not solely on their behalf. PPS Norwegian petroleum operations benefit their citizenry, far more than American, British, French or Dutch petro-giants. Far less corruption as well or unequal distribution of profits as in the Middle East, Russia, Southeast Asia, Africa or other countries in the developing world where the Seven Sisters' operate!
LIDAR. The sub can be quiet and undetectable by sonar. You don't have to "detect" the sub. If the sub rejects sonar, there will be a huge hole on the map. Stealth has its cons.
Having served on a DDG for several years I nearly fell through my chair when I saw the accommodations on that Norwegian warship. Very impressed ...and maybe a little jealous. lol, why can't the US Navy have nice things? (looking your way MCPON)

As this is a coastguard ship it isnt made for combat, but for survailence and enviremental protection. This menas that the size of the ship is to behave on the sea, and not needed to cramp in as much weapons as possible. Its a different story on the friggates.

Wow that ship looks like a cruise ship compared the Spruance class destroyers I served on during 1981-82. The Spruance were the newest ships in the US Navy, and they were considered the most crew comfortable. Let's just say there were no couches or places to 'relax. (we had a small gym, but that was it). We worked port and starboard 24-7, which is 6 hours on 6 hours off the entire time we were at sea, no weekends, etc. No one had the energy to 'relax.' lol You were either sleeping or working, period.

Despite it sounding like an oversimplification of geopolitics and European security, having a US military presence in a country or a NATO defense pact is the best deterrent.
Submarine: "The next best is the russian one" => WRONG... stop thinking only the US and Russia are able to build advanced stuffs like if we were still in WW2 that's ridiculous.
Was that real Wood on the Norwegian war ship? With just a few exceptions, wood is not allowed in the construction or furnishing of USN ship. Or was is just painted/wood looking material?
I thought mine sweepers were mostly wood? My friend was in Gulf War 1 and was a stinger operator on one. He said it was mostly wood. I was on the Kitty Hawk and Frank Cable once. No wood that could tell.
Ocean floor sensors,, well, well, well. I was in SOSUS 74-77. I learned quite a bit about submarine detection, and can only imagine what iteration of that system is in use today.
Errr, for a warship I see a lot of flammable stuff like wood floors, etc... Pretty but not very safe for the crew when you consider fire is the most dangerous thing on a ship.
Just had the honor of vlogging my personal tour of the USS Indiana sub including below deck and got to see the inside of a torpedo tube up close...that's because I actually crawled inside!
If I am Russian President or people I rather stop fighting with Ukraine and make an agreement with the NATO members countries not to make invasion or touched the integrity of Russian people and to establish an everlasting peace with all European countries.
Unfortunately, you are not the Russian leader Vicente. He has his own agenda, which makes no sense to those of us in the West. But, nice thoughts anyways. The world is not nice though, and neither are some people, or leaders
I thought the American Navy is the strongest and best in the world? The Norwegian Navy have so much more to do, to build up our Navy, to be able to defend the Northern Front of NATO as well as we should do. God bless USA!
Presented standard on that vessel is pretty much how Scandinavian vessels are equipped, even smaller vessels in private merchant sector are likewise equipped and organised with the crew socialising with the officers. Every sailor has a private cabin with shower ☺️
Know what I just remembered: Sweden has a conventional submarine that current sonars can't catch. It defeated the whole US navy on a NATO war game a few years ago.

JUST THINK HOW MANY THAT DON'T KNOW THIS GOING ON AROUND THE WORLD. WOW!!! THANKS TOM FOR THE EDUCATION SCHOOLING.
Very informative and interesting at the same time. Thank you for this!
The Norwegian ship was not even out of port when they said they were rigging for dark on the bridge on patrol. Lotta buildings with lights in the near distance.
awesome thumbnail
@@jamesferguson2353 Thanks
Norwegian ship looks like a resort in comparison to American warships. Great standard of living
Finally some reporting about submarine dangers. We never talk about the dangers of underwater foreign adversaries.
Well done. Good reporting. Go Ukraine.
Bot.
My great grandfather came from Oslo Norway to the USA and Founded Yankton South Dakota
Norwegian American in Arizona here. Norway rocks! “All for Norway” as well as our Nordic/Baltic/European family.
Stop Putin! Stop his aggression!
It's just a matter of time😢
Give me a ping, Vasily. One ping only.
i hope the oil companies are using some of their massive profits to pay for all this protection
🇨🇦 🍁 🇨🇦
PS That excellent reporting also emphasized that the Norwegian armed forces and their 30 NATO partners were working hand in hand with the surveillance, maintenance and protection operations of Norwegian oil and gas industry, not solely on their behalf.
Oooh AMAZING REPORT THANK YOU NBC NEWS ROCKS
Submarines are the scariest weapon ever built. More high tech than a space station easily.
Having served on a DDG for several years I nearly fell through my chair when I saw the accommodations on that Norwegian warship. Very impressed ...and maybe a little jealous. lol, why can't the US Navy have nice things? (looking your way MCPON)
lolbudget you mean you don't love it when the greywater floods the berthing on the Burkes?
@@emwungarand lol, oh yeah that was fun. I loved getting shoved in the sea chest to raise and lower the pitsword even more.
@@emwungarand I lowered my standards though. Long before MCPON made lowering standards cool. So, it was all a blast.
Norway have a very high living standard, they most probably need to offer a lot of perks to atract and reatain talented people who can do great on the civil sector
As this is a coastguard ship it isnt made for combat, but for survailence and enviremental protection. This menas that the size of the ship is to behave on the sea, and not needed to cramp in as much weapons as possible. Its a different story on the friggates.
Fantastic reporting.
Outstanding reporting NBC!
Looks like we may be taking some of our Stark class Frigates out of mothball fleet.
Norfolk
Bremerton...
I'm sure the Baltic states navies can make good use of them....
Also our Black Sea allies...

Wow very cool too see what's going on in the North Sea and very impressed by the Norwegian govt and the Norwegian Royal Navy! What a great job there doing and they ain't beating around the bush! I'm loving every bit of it!
It took 30 ads to view this in whole . Outstanding.
As an ex- U.S. Naval Aircrewman on P-3C Orion's I was hoping to see more in regards to actually hunting Russian subs as the title suggests.
Maybe the Russians were wise enough to avoid the area.
If you prepare for war, you will get peace.
Thank you all for this. May God Protect each of you.
Glory to the Warriors of Ukraine..SLAVA UKRAINI..💪..Stay strong Ukraine....🇺🇦🤝🇦🇺
Game over🤡
Stay alert...don't be scared!
Thanks NBC News for this great documentary. Very well done.
Glad we are on alert! We have to be prepared for anything
Nothing said about the sub sea cables cut in Shetland last year
Great job fantastic reporting and documentary of the history was going on now in the North Sea thank you thank you

Great story and reporting!

It is an excellent report good to learn how the world responds to how aggressive the Russian is.
Thank you Norwegian for doing an excellent job,
God bless you and all of NATO .
@@jampasurprenant1794 Thank you from Norway! God bless the USA, and may we continue to keep up our powerful shield NATO, amen. Have a nice week. 🙂
Thank you for your latest update on the back sea and God bless all of the NATO counties .
It doesn't matter at this point , The Russians don't
Gain anything but losing a war in Ukraine and losing the west and the European countries, Russians have no friends only China.
Stoking fear?😢
Wow that ship looks like a cruise ship compared the Spruance class destroyers I served on during 1981-82. The Spruance were the newest ships in the US Navy, and they were considered the most crew comfortable. Let's just say there were no couches or places to 'relax. (we had a small gym, but that was it). We worked port and starboard 24-7, which is 6 hours on 6 hours off the entire time we were at sea, no weekends, etc. No one had the energy to 'relax.' lol You were either sleeping or working, period.
guarantee they didn't give you nice beds. USN doesn't give a crap about your comfort.
nice job Tom great vid awesome N navy ships 17:00 nice accomad cooool looks like Norwegian cruises ship..so nice all white w wood trim.. no blah greynavy coldsteel. nit even hatches but reg square doorways... sailors so luckky there.
That's why it's never the right type of wind 🌬️
NATO 31 Strong and Growing!!!
Despite it sounding like an oversimplification of geopolitics and European security, having a US military presence in a country or a NATO defense pact is the best deterrent.
It's over for the little man
I'd be willing to bet whoever blew up that gas line spelled his words with Cyrillic letters.
I remember many a Midwatch on the helm chasing Ivan in the North Atlantic during the late 70s and my arms are still tired !!
BM3
Submarine: "The next best is the russian one"
=> WRONG... stop thinking only the US and Russia are able to build advanced stuffs like if we were still in WW2 that's ridiculous.
Great segment!!
This was going on back in the 70s with the Soviets.
Errr...I think you'll find the RN perisher course is the most skillful and trains the top submariners on the planet.
I actually like Norway, it’s so beautiful and I love the people, I don’t want anything bad happening to you, I’m so sorry for what Is happening rn.😢
There’s possibility ur right
The Norwegians are the BEST seafarers in the world!
@24:06 To display that pea shooter as reflecting N. readiness strikes me as a tad disingenuous.
Go get em.
Was that real Wood on the Norwegian war ship? With just a few exceptions, wood is not allowed in the construction or furnishing of USN ship. Or was is just painted/wood looking material?
I didn't know that , learned something new. What is the reason for no wood ? Is it because of fires on board the ship ?
I thought mine sweepers were mostly wood? My friend was in Gulf War 1 and was a stinger operator on one. He said it was mostly wood. I was on the Kitty Hawk and Frank Cable once. No wood that could tell.
clearly is wood...
What? Of course it’s wood! Why isn’t it allowed in the US ships?
That's a bit personal don't you think?
Norwegian Navy ships are more luxurious than cruise ships!
🤦🤷😂
Imagine if Russia spent all this effort on improving their country instead of trying to damage others. Sad sad people
Ocean floor sensors,, well, well, well. I was in SOSUS 74-77. I learned quite a bit about submarine detection, and can only imagine what iteration of that system is in use today.
Why do American media scream what they’re saying.., makes it impossible I’m to watch
Errr, for a warship I see a lot of flammable stuff like wood floors, etc... Pretty but not very safe for the crew when you consider fire is the most dangerous thing on a ship.
Is good for training 😁
Just had the honor of vlogging my personal tour of the USS Indiana sub including below deck and got to see the inside of a torpedo tube up close...that's because I actually crawled inside!
That ships walls and floors look like a house!
Thank you for sharing an awesome report on hunting the Russian submarine in the back sea .
Red October
If I am Russian President or people I rather stop fighting with Ukraine and make an agreement with the NATO members countries not to make invasion or touched the integrity of Russian people and to establish an everlasting peace with all European countries.
Unfortunately, you are not the Russian leader Vicente. He has his own agenda, which makes no sense to those of us in the West. But, nice thoughts anyways. The world is not nice though, and neither are some people, or leaders
Wake up from your deeam. That's what Putin was saying untill 2022 but nobody was listening to him.
Good reporting and analysis.
Decided to subscribe.
Thanks for posting!
The same old Russian fishing trawlers from the cold war. So little has changed.
The interior looks like it was designed by IKEA, which I actually like l, it has gemütlichkeit
That Norwegian Navy ship is so much nicer than the American ship I served on. It's amazing.
Can you elaborate please? I'm curious about the differences between the two
I thought the American Navy is the strongest and best in the world? The Norwegian Navy have so much more to do, to build up our Navy, to be able to defend the Northern Front of NATO as well as we should do. God bless USA!
Wow the interior of the KV Sortland looks more like an office building not a marine vessel.
Wow!! They're looking at us. Now THAT'S an act of war......not.
We all know who blew up the gas line!
We know who blew up the nordstream lets be real
There are only a handful of groups in the world that could pull that off.
4:14 That doesn't look like a fisherman.....
"No subs captain!", Five UFOs overhead! 😂
Nice :)
A nicely done report. Except there was very little regarding actual "Sub Hunt".
And what do they do when they track one, Nothing
Russia did it. They turned it off for repairs 4:23 when they really installed a bomb in the line with a timer on it. The metal looked like it was blown from the inside.
All hail NATO,lets stand together against the aggressor.
i don’t want to be a hater but this video would be 100x more watchable if the narrator was talking at a normal pace and volume instead of the action movie trailer voice he had going
Frame 2:08 "someone blew up the Nordstream pipeline". The US did that and has a history of doing it before in the early 1980's with bugged software for russian oil pipeline control systems causing the pipelines to explode. This according to former Air Force Secretary Reed.
