Just what I needed. A hundred videos on how to replace the cable or spring but I couldn't figure out how to get the old plastic handle off.
    THANK YOU!

That is straightforward, with a lot of steps. I never used a mower with the personal pace feature. My ghetto-fabulous one has a self-propel control, but it barely works. I'm sure there are a few thousand badly worn or broken parts. I grew up with a non-driven mower, so I push it around like the old days.
One thing I insist upon is deletion of the engine brake control, on whatever mower I end up getting to replace it. On the old Murray mower I used to have, its control was still working, so I used a Velcro cable wrap to keep it engaged at all times. I do the same on my edger. My dad's Craftsman has none of those nanny systems, and my mower doesn't need it either. The Craftsman even had a warning sticker to stay clear of the blade, that was all the warning people needed back then when that was new in 83. Yes, there were still idiots and accidents, but nowadays there are better idiots and more accident-prone people.
Definitely a nice touch with the new decnal!

Since I've done it twice, I'm definitely a pro!
When the personal pace works, it's awesome! Hopefully, it'll hold up for some time. I know it didn't work well last year, so I mowed the old fashioned way. I prefer the PTO self propel on the 1982 John Deere. There is no question if it's working or not. It's powerful.
I leave mine functional, just in case someone else besides me uses it. They expect such a thing. I can do without it though. Used plenty that don't have it, such as the 1982 John Deere. It just squeaked by, since it was manufacture before June 30, 1982 engine brake mandate. It features that decnal, so that's how I know.
Yeah, that turned out nice, with the decnal added.

@@dynatrak Twice? Hold on there feller, that makes you an expert!
1982 they mandated an engine brake? I did not know that. I guess that makes my father's mower an 82, because it has nothing running up the handle. Just some sort of switch on the side of the engine that has Off, Slow, and Fast. It does have a key though. Interesting, I guess I remember back farther than I thought. I remember my grandfather gave my dad a mower, it had some sort of wire you'd touch to the spark plug to ground it out and kill it. That's about it.

      @@jaykay18 Does curtsy!
That's what the decnal states on my mower. Yes, that's almost exactly what the John Deere has as well, no key though. Control works like that though. It also states on the side of the control, a warm start is in the slow position, which is due to the automatic choke.
I've seen some crude kill circuits like that before. It works, so why not!

I'm going to have to get my mower out probably later this week as it's getting close to being mowing season. I also just spread some fertilizer on my lawn and it's supposed to rain all day tomorrow so that's going to get washed in and my lawn will probably go nuts. As of yet I haven't started it since last fall. I did start my father's Craftsman mower and do some mowing at the lake yesterday while we were there to open up the cottage for the summer.

Excellent time to fertilize! I'll be applying round two here in the next week, or so. Hopefully yours will start up as well as mine did.
I watched that video a little while ago. That mound sure looks like a workout. Hopefully you can locate the type of mower you discussed. I think it would work great for that application.

@@dynatrak The fertilizer I used had weed killer in it also, that's why it had to be used and allowed to sit for 24 hours before rain or watering. I wasn't sure it was doing much as I had tons of dandelions but after it started raining today they all keeled over. Now I'm just worried that by the time I can mow the grass is going to be a foot tall. The next day not forecast to rain is next Saturday.
