  • In this video, I make comments during my trial-and-error assembly of my Shapeoko 4 XL. These clips go in linear order, so that as I try solutions, you too can decide if these tips help with your Shapeoko 4 installation. Chapters are provided to give a representation of which Shapeoko 4 XL installation step I am on.
    Note: This video is not intended to be a replacement of the official Shapeoko 4 XXL assembly video or Shapeoko 4 PDF instructions, but rather representative of my experience assembling a Shapeoko 4 XL. I purchased the Shapeoko 4 XL at full price, no sponsorship or other consideration provided by Carbide 3D.

    Carbide 3d needs to hire this guy, or pay him at the least. This was much more helpful as I ran into all of these problems and more because I have the 17x17

      Ha! Glad you found it helpful…maybe they could send me one of their upgraded spindles 🤔

    Thank you so much for this. I'm a Luthier as well and the machine is on its way. I'm frankly a bit nervous, but I know it will be worth it once I get it put together. Can't wait to see the stuff you make with it.

      As a luthier, which parts of a violin are you making with CNC? 2nd question, my oldest is interested in becoming a luthier. What school would you recommend learning this art from? Thanks in advance!

      I have only focused on electric guitars at this point, as I can’t play the violin!
      As far as lutherie schools go, while I wish I had time to go, I’ve just been learning through books and TH-cam. Easier when you’re building your own stuff vs someone wanting you to repair their heirloom instrument

    Thank you for taking the time to put together this video. I'm on my third session of putting together my shapeoko 4. I've got the official instructions and youtube video and your video helping me along the way. Thanks!

    Way better than the Carbide 3 video, that one confused me a bit. Thanks for this.

    Thanks. My shapeoko just came in this week. Your video and commentary looks like it’s going to be helpful. I can feel the frustration building already…since it seems like there are points in the official instructions that don’t give enough clear details.

      Awesome! Hopefully me recording my process, along with the official video saves you time and frustration. You can also contact Carbide 3D support and they’ll send you a draft PDF of the written instructions

      Lack of directions aside (which they are in the process of remedying), I’m so happy I made the plunge. Still learning my way around, but looking forward to making guitar parts

      Yeah, once I get my sea legs, I'm going to try a wild inlay of some sort. For now, need to learn how to draw easy curves :D

    Did you have any issues with the hybrid table not being even? I have on side higher than the other so my marker test shows darker text on one side compared to the other…

    • @zwitchguitars
      @zwitchguitars  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I didn't do the marker test, but I eventually bought a Whiteside 6210 spoilboard surfacing bit and took a couple passes. Probably like 0.05" across the whole board, which touched all of the MDF panels.
      I've cut a few guitar bodies and parts on the machine since then, and I'm getting accuracy to the 0.01" with digital calipers, which far exceeds anything I need.

      @@zwitchguitars thank you for the fast response. I bought the bit to redo the surface but before I did that I just wanted others input on the matter. I would hate to start working with my machine by having to cut it down due to imperfections.
