Anyone who disregards the artistry of an entire aria only to judge one or two top notes is akin to discounting the beauty and strategy of a baseball game if there aren’t any home runs. Domingo may not have had the most secure top notes of all the great tenors and perhaps a b flat was his upper bound, but these passages were more than solid, and the rest of the aria was expressive and beautiful. He was in brilliant voice here.
- Maestro Domingo said in interviews that he had to make such effort to sing the high notes. He worked very hard to sing them well. His efforts are not misplaced. He sings this aria magnificently.

Comunque in realtà gli anni '80, sono stati un periodo di profonda crisi per il musicista, la cui resa era alquanto incostante, costringendolo ad una profonda rieducazione della propria voce (infatti, dopo il periodo di ridotta attività nel triennio 85-87, le sue performance negli anni 89-95 risultano spesso superiori a quelle di dieci anni prima)
What are you people talking about? He was wonderful - nothing at all wrong with those high b flats. He was one of the greatest along with Pavarotti, Tucker, Boerling, Gigli, di Stefano and of course the great Caruso. Hope I didn't leave out anyone's favorite. Oh yeah, Corelli.
