I was enrolled in kumon when I was younger, along side of myself was the over achiever straight A star pupil of the school I was in. This girl was such the scholarly star as well as a fraud... her mother was doing all of her work. Her mother did all of her school projects, her mother did all of her homework, her mother did all of her kumon work. This girl was put in all the AP courses because her mother was doing all of her work for her to make her grades high.
When we did the tests this girl never scored higher then any of the other students, but her homework and school projects were always far beyond what a child could have done themselves.
Kumon ended up breeding in me a lifelong resentment for nepotism.

I took a I1 reading test at Kumon and passed with a 90/100, but they didn’t let me pass and claimed that I needed to re do the whole level for no damn reason. I never cried my heart out over a damn test before. Kumon is the only reason why I cry my ass off.
Probably because they thought the test was really easy, so they wanted to make you understand better to get 100/100 on your test
Kumon made me experience stress and depression. I’m on level M and keep cheating on all the pages. Then I have to always restart M from level 0 because I fail the test so my mum makes me do it without the solution book. I’m only 14 and no one understands that it gives u depression to do extremely hard stuff that there’s no point actually doing because school already teaches u EVERYTHING u need to know in math. Basically, all I need to say is Kumon sucks.

I started going to Kumon since i was Grade 1. Starting on simple addition i was really badass like him... And after a few years my head said “its my fault... I will not get sent to Kumon if i know maths....” but this is really what i can say...
I live in the PHILIPPINES i know people spank children in this country... but in kumon they shout at them.. if they dont know what the answer is... they teach children putting a bit difficulty in it... and they sometimes dont allow you make solutions to find the answer.. and the homework... they dont give us any rest... especially when it is a special event... (Birthday,Wedding,Christmas,New year,etc) when you did not do your homework they will give you a classwork of 1 sheet... and a 1 sheet here is 11 pages... and per page it has 20 questions... and... i would like to say to you kumon... dont give us any homework when it is a special occasion because one person in our country commited suicide from drowning himself in the pond... and so please dont neglogate our mental healths

I have somehow managed to escape kumon,
I was enrolled when I was 5 for addition and subtraction, kumon helped me get better at it but the started to teach me fractions and decimals and other stuff that is too advanced for a five year old I . I suffered for a year or two like that before my mum finally realised the amount of stress she is putting son in kindergarten is going through and Made me quit. I’ll am 14 now but I will never forget the harrowing experience of kumon.

I improved a lot on school. Kumon helped me so much! it might be hopeless at first, but you'll realize that it's making changes to your math skills. without kumon, it will be hard on your incoming lessons. And in higher grade in school withiut kumon, u will have a hard time studying about the math lesson on your own. im grade 8 right now, and im doing level J, which is for grade 10 because i was staying in kumon for 3 years. I also do reading kumon, which is im on level G! I dont have a problem doing math on school because l already learned them on kumon. Im grateful for my parents for paying for the tuition of my kumon, and im thankful for kumon for saving my life! My math and English/Reading in school have never been easy without kumon! I get high grades on school with the help of kumon, cuz i get practiced by kumon worksheets.

what got me in kumon is a flyer and myself. now I got too far into kumon and I don't have the guts to just straight up tell my dad that I want to quit kumon.

Kumon ISNT that bad but I wish they gave more detailed explanations since the explanations they give are super vague and sometimes even leave out descriptions. My Mom is a Kumon instructor, so I have no choice to do it everyday for 12 years, and I’m 14. I have these mental breakdowns whenever I cannot solve quadratic formulas, or polynomials. I understand that it’s what keeps a roof over our head, but it just adds to my anxiety and schoolwork.

Kumon is the definition of internal bleeding and physical pain
To me, Kumon is ok, until you pass your school level. If you're 5th grade, you should be studying level F. 6th grade? G. and so on. Because everytime you're ahead of your school level, the harder the topics get. It gets harder because your school isn't even talking about it. I'm currently trying to study the Pythagorean Theorem in the 5th grade, and guess what, I can't understand anything. If i told this to my parents, they would probably blame videogames. But in reality, it's because my 5th grade math teacher isn't even discussing the pythagorean theorem yet!
Also, the amount of homework is absolutely stress-inducing. ESPECIALLY on vacations. Picture yourself. It's the end of your school year, you've graduated from elementary, and you and your family are packing to go to a beach to have a vacation. Kumon doesn't give a crap, and gives you homework anyway. Non-kumon kids, could you imagine, if you got homework everyday without breaks?
Picture yourself again. You're done with all your school homework. And you're about to play something like Minecraft, Wii Sports, etc. Again, kumon doesn't give a f, and just gives you homework. You run out of time to have fun, and when you're done with Kumon, and you hop on to the console or your phone or something like that, you can't play anymore because it's probably too late.
Fun is a big part of childhood. This is why I want to quit kumon. To have more time to focus on other things like schoolwork. And also, to have more fun. Because you can't have that much fun anymore when you get older. (work, parenting, kids, etc.)

When I was 5th grade I was level H though
I've been doing kumon for 4 years and it made me lose interest in school and i have no aspirations in life anymore. For the last 4 years i have been asking to quit kumon for my birthday and christmas. I tried to tell my parents how anxious and depressed it makes me feel and they don't care, in their eyes as long as im passing all my classes its fine. Im failing maths because i get forced to do my kumons, i have a hass assignment due tommorow which i couldnt do because of my kumon. Its ruined my mental health. Everytime i go to do a book i end up having a mental breakdown and hysterically crying in my room.
If you are a parent please do not put your children through kumon. If you are really that worried about their grades get them a tutor. It's cheaper than this anyway and it will actually help becaue you get one on one help with your homework and not random books that dont correlate to school.

While yes, I must say super painful and sometimes hard to understand, I must give it up credit of putting me top of the class, and school in maths, i am currently in level J, 13 years old, and I have been noticed to my math talent and offered into many advanced programmes within my city. My love for science is also amazing

In the end, instead of challenging me, Kumon has taken away all the fun in learning, it makes me miserable, ashamed. I’m crying while writing this down. The problem with Kumon is simple. They train the kids to be math/reading machines and not humans with the constant drilling and repetitiveness. I worked at a Kumon and wanted to really help the kids out esp the ones who were frustrated and struggling. But my boss was like u cant spend that much time with the kids, cuz I also had draw meaningless circles i mean "grade the work" and the more i helped them the longer my work hours would be and the more he would have to pay me. Most Kumon owners just see it as a way to make some good cash. The work itself is good but the owners dont even know how to teach the math past level J.

Kumon gave me Depression for real for real. Every time I would go, I couldn't leave without finishing my classwork. I stayed at the Kumon Center for 3 hours every time I would go their. I got so stress, I would cry in the bathroom, but their would be no toilet paper. They also scold me for sleeping. I would get headaches everytime because the teachers there are so bad at explaining.

Kumon acctually helped me, I was a dumb kid, and so I went to Kumon. It was hell, but as I got older, I acctually liked it because I would be a level ahead of my class

Now to be honest I might be one of the only people that like Kumon, but I can see why some people find it stressful and hard, because I myself used to strugle quite a lot on it, but I started to understand the levels a lot more. But if you find it stressful or way too hard, I understand that. I thing only really a very select few children really find it enjoying to do extra homework after school work and all. Even I sometimes find Kumon a bit tedious and hard to do, but still, if you dont like Kumon, I get you.

I loved kumon since grade 1 😁 now im grade 7
Kumon makes me sad a lot. Im 13 and on level M. I have to take about 2 hours everyday just to understand the trigonometry. I have to watch videos from youtube to understand how to do cosine, sine, tangent graphs. Kumon doesn't exactly teach you what to do. I guess, from what I have experienced so far, Kumon teaches me to be persistent and concentrate. I think if Kumon were to change the worksheets and how it explains them, then the whole thing wouldn't be such a painful experience. Im lucky, as soon as I finished level I, the kumon teacher stopped giving me the level sheets and just put me to the next level. Anyway, I hope my comment has helped anyone who's deciding wether or not they want to do kumon! Hope your choice is for the best!! 😊😊
