  • Q: Why is your art so bad?
    A: I’m working on it! You can follow my art progress on my channel or just enjoy the stories 😊
    Q: Why did you choose to read “The Lottery”?
    A: When I was reading it in school, I thought about how I really wanted to read this story and spread it to a larger audience. I like how it points out how pointlessly following traditions just because they’re traditional can have dangerous consequences and how it really has a universal lesson that we can all learn from in our personal lives, the workplace, or even public policy.
    Q: Why did you use charcoal?
    A: Because I’m scared of making mistakes and you can erase charcoal for days (as I do in this video). Plus, black and white is perfect for ~creepy~ vibes.
    Q: What's that thing you used to blend out the charcoal?
    A: It's called a tortillon and it's a wrapped piece of paper with a pointy end. I've never used one before and I think the results were pretty nice.
    Q: Why do you keep turning your drawing around?
    A: Comparing the drawing to the reference picture at different angles makes it easier to see mistakes in the construction of the subject.
    Q: How long did this drawing take you?
    A: Three hours and 38 minutes.
    Q: Can I critique any part of your video?
    A: Yes, everything is open to constructive criticism!
    Q: How do I let you know that I read your long ass Q & A?
    A: Hmm...Why don't you comment "graphic design is my passion" and I'll know ;)
    Q: What if I have more questions?
    A: Leave it in the comments! Thanks so much for watching and have a wonderful day!

    A bit of hypocrisy I fear. Tessie had no problem with the lottery until she "won." In the words of Shakespeare: "The lady doth protest too much, me thinks." And if Old Man Warner had won, he would have accepted it. (Possibly with the words: "Lottery in June, corn heavy soon.")

    • @natalieanimal4063
      @natalieanimal4063 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm glad you point this out, I think it's one of the important points Jackson wanted to make. Some interpretations I've read say the same, I was surprised that others didn't see that bit about Tessie.
      I wonder how Old Man Warner would've reacted if he'd won. And also, do people usually react like Tessie did? Because, it would be natural, but the people act as if her reaction were something to scold. Either it doesn't usually happen, or it does but the villagers still act by the principle of 'this is fine' like the do with other parts of the event.

    • @eternalhalloween1
      @eternalhalloween1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@natalieanimal4063 Well, Tessie makes me think of Marlowe's protagonist Fausus screwing: "I'll burn my books! Oh Mephistopheles!" Old Man Warner makes me think of Menenius from Shakespeare's "Coriolanus:" "He that hath a will to die by himself fears it not from another."

    • @natalieanimal4063
      @natalieanimal4063 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@eternalhalloween1 I've of course heard of both, but haven't read them, so these comparisons you gave are a nice recommendation, and the motivation to compare them myself when I read.
      Interesting point about Warner. I suppose it could be either that, which would confirm how terrifyingly convinced he is, or his view would also change; not as sharply as Tessie's because he's been convinced for such a long time, but it could be a moment when he first sees is from a different angle, which would be another way of being a remarkable message- point out that there's a counterpoint to even the most hardcore beliefs.
      From your reply and the edit of the original comment, I take it that you believe it would definitely be the former, that he would still believe the same. Of course, I'd love the most to ask Jackson herself, but this option is very realistic, and me leaving room for the other one could be wishful thinking. Especially because, unlike some others who aren't even sure about the lottery's point, Warner is certain it would bring fertility and food to the whole village, so in his mind it's better to kill one than for everyone to starve. So he could see himself as a hero if he wins.

    • @eternalhalloween1
      @eternalhalloween1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@natalieanimal4063 We could only ask SJ herself. But I like that we can converse in a civil manner about it. Someone via YT wants me to burn as a heretic. Why? I said "Star Trek Next Generation" is superior to "Star Wars." What can you do? 😁

    • @natalieanimal4063
      @natalieanimal4063 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@eternalhalloween1 I really agree, I'd rather talk to someone who disagrees civilly than have someone who agrees be rude to others about it. And this example is about preference of franchises, it isn't even an opinion on good and evil, not that it hurts someone you prefer one over the other. I personally wouldn't phrase it as 'superior' when I talk, but I know there's no harm in that. I'm sorry you had to put up with such dramatic reactions.
