The issue with Horizon (and The Last of Us to an extent) is that these titles/franchises no longer feel *special*. When The Last of Us came out it was unique in its cinematic storytelling and dynamic characters. When Horizon Zero Dawn came out it was also unique, for PlayStation. It was one of the first “third person open world action RPGs” from PlayStation in this new era. And it was cool! The story was interesting to me, the combat was exceptional, and the robot dinos were just awesome. Even Forbidden West still felt unique at that point. But now with all of these TLOU remasters and remakes, the abundance of Horizon content, these franchises no longer feel special or exciting. And that’s what I find to be the most disappointing about all of the remasters from PlayStation. Especially because these games aren’t even old. If we were getting stellar remasters and remakes of PS2 and PS3 games, I wouldn’t be complaining because I personally missed a lot of those. But who the heck missed these games that are less than a decade old and that are already backwards compatible. I just don’t get the strategy here.
Its also unfortunate people shit on Horizon likes its the typical “woke” garbage as they say but I don't think it deserved that perspective, they tried something they found interesting and it was cool and in today's climate people are less intrigued, I feel like that's all it really is but some people get spiked up now more than before. The robot dinosaurs were cool as hell and still are cool as hell.
I actually don't mind seeing Horizon Remaster. Is it needed, I don't think so but it's a simple skip for me. I think Sony thinks a casual person who just bought a PS5 or plans on buying a PS5 would see a Horizon Remaster and want to play the "newer" version. What bothers me more is the overexposure of Horizon, isn't there an MMO, a multiplayer game and a Horizon show all planned? That's ridiculous.
I won’t hate on anyone upgrading to a Pro.. But personally $700 to play PS4 games to the level that PS5 originally promised is a no-go for me. Not even seeing the kinds of upgrades the One X offered last gen on 360 games is wild to me. I’d much rather spend my $700 on more stocks/investments or wait for the Switch 2
For 400 million and possibly another 150 million for the Firewalk acquisition, Sony could have invested in 2-3 AAA games or another studio acquisition (Falcon Games, Ember Labs, Shift Up or Level 5 Studios) that would have benefited them greatly. Concords issues were that they were 8 years late to the hero shooter scene. The character designs were boring and visually unappealing. The dialogue was very bad and there is an obvious woke atmosphere around it. If Sony's going to go for another Gaas title, it should be Warhawk, Socom or Little Big Planet.
Sony spent 200 million, the studio had already spent 200 million when they were bought. Still a crazy amount, but Sony didn't spend the full 400 million.

Level 5 should’ve been acquired a LONG TIME AGO. I absolutely adore their games. Now that they’re working with Nintendo, I don’t think they even need to release on PlayStation because Sony has abandoned the Japanese customer base. They changed their whole corporate image once they moved to California… I don’t think the majority of Japanese gamers are excited for The Last of Us or Horizon games. The man who killed Japan Studio is now co-CEO of SIE, that’s saying something.
Listening to Chris talk about Mass Effect has been incredible. I played that serious for the first time in January this year. One of the all time greatest trilogies ever made hands down. I loved 1 the most then 3 then 2, but that's because I was frustrated with removal of RPG elements and the way that 3 eventually felt to play. It's SOOOO good. So cool for him to be hitting this series so hard.

Darksiders 2 is phenomenal, anyone who has never played it must play the PS5 version that's coming out. It was one of my very favorite games of the PS3 era. It has an extremely creative and dark world. Does a great job of giving a somewhat open world feel, yet it has a great Zelda feel to it also. Has some fantastic dungeon environments with great puzzles. And solid combat with a good loot system
The first one is the best and actually feels like a Zelda game way more than the second one. The second one is more of a loot game and fantasy rpg. With that said it's still good but the series goes 1 ==> 3 => 2
One thing you have to understand about Lethal Company. It's made by 1 guy so of course it can't get updates all that fast. Not that guy's fault he is only one person.
Sony including a disc drive cover in their PS5 Pro package is like the third most decent thing they’ve done this year. Unfortunately, I don’t think that’s a compliment.
There will be no lifecycles anymore. Userbase will be 50% PS4, 35% PS5, 1 5% PS6. And apart from some minor fluctuations it's going to be that way for a long long time. These will simply be your low tier, mid tier, high tier systems basically.
Comparing the PS5 to the PS3 is insane. The PS3 was able to play games from all previous gens. It was the cheapest bluray player. It was the first time we had digital games, HDD, Wireless controllers/headsets, wireless/wired network cards. It could play music, video, transfer save data, stream. Everything justified the price tag because compared to previous gens it was only one capable of doing those things. The damn console required an LCD TV if you wanted to read the menus and most people don't even know what this means. What does the PS5 pro does that the PS5 can't do? Play discs? Oh sorry...Run games at 60fps? Yeah...not guaranteed. I don't care if they manufacture 3 units and yell "it's soldout, it's too popular guys". I want to see comparisons to the base PS5, PS4 and specially the PS4 pro.

This whole talk about how the PS5 pro can be expensive as it wants to be because its only an upgrade and not the PS6, is annoying to me. The PS6 is NEVER going to be cheaper than the PS5 Pro. The price of the Pro is indicative of where we are going with prices. I'm not going to buy the Pro because theres no way in hell that is worth it to me. But I WILL want the PS6. I wish there was actual pushback on the Pro because it might send a message to Sony about how far they can push these prices, but Colin is right. This thing will sell out, the PS6 will be even ore expensive and it will sell out too and we all just keep spending more and more, and one by one each of us gets priced out of our hobby.
It's been a while now, but it's still kinda shocking to me how much of a disaster Concord was when its biggest sin was effectively just being astonishingly bland. Games that are _offensively bad_ actually garner better word of mouth than this game had. We live in such a strange world.

Sounds to me like Connie and Jim Ryan bet heavily on concord for some damn reason. Perhaps we will never know. Seems like they were looking for their live service cash cow and when they dropped another 200 million and started getting some none internal data with focus groups and what not last summer or so, top people for Sony proper axed Connie and Jim. I think that’s why these other live service games were cancelled and why concord was released. They were able take 3 or 4 live service games that equaled about 400 to 500 million and wrote it off to make up for this game. I assume they knew it would bomb and that’s why they made it a one time pay with no micro transactions but it fell far below what was even expected. This will hopefully teach Sony to get out of the live service games. Give fair games a chance. And horizon a chance but unless those are huge step away.
I’m in the minority I guess.. I love the look of the PS5. I’m partial to white & black color combos in anything.. it looks great on my entertainment center and matches my white and black record player and my Switch OLED. Not a fan of the newer models with the black stripes but I don’t hate the overall design of the 5.
The problem with a PS5 portable is that in order to get that much power, Sony would most likely have to use a ARM chip instead of an X86 processor which would be a big learning curve for Sony at its studios.

Not sure if the US has these, but here in Australia, the choc top is the king of cinema snack for me. 99% of the time it’s boysenberry flavour. Choc top, is an icecream cone with a dome choc covering over the icecream to top of cone, cone is also one of those smaller round ones that is not pointy, flat on bottom. Best cinema snack!
I haven't seen a movie in the theater in years, but when I did, I must humbly say I was pretty great at sneaking food in. My friends and I used to make it a personal challenge to one up ourselves each time. We went from sneaking in burgers and fries, to hoagies, to eventually working ourselves all the way up to a massive Sicilian pizza with 20+ thick slices. We did it in the winter so we had hoodies on and we stuffed all the slices in tupperware, stuck it in the hoodies, and then slung it over our shoulders when we walked into the theater, and the containers were too big to fall out of the hooded part. And we were in a line of people so it's not like they took time to fully check everyone anyway. Not sure how much bigger I could ever go than that. Making sneaking in a full course BBQ meal or something, but for now, I think I'm retired on this front. Maybe one day I'll do one last run for old time's sake.

The End is Nigh and Disco Elysium are calling to me for another playthrough so perhaps you would enjoy them too. I still say a Disco Elysium spoilercast with Colin, Chris, Cog and maybe Matty or Hoeg would do numbers. Lastly, I thought Horizon Zero Dawn was great from the first trailer. But I think Aloy's personality is muted and atypical as a function of the world she exists in and her isolation from the tribe. It seems like people want her to have the personality of a character who grew up in our world and not hers.

There is one type of dev. These devs have glowing resume. They know a lot and very talented. Lots of Ego. They are very difficult to work with and always argue with people about big and small anything. As a result they are not able to deliver anything. But they always talk about how things should be if they were in charge. But they avoid taking initiative. Devs coming from Bungie lineage like Firewalk always gave me with this impression.

Holy hell, the SS boys are uninformed about xDefiant, Mark Rubin had to address the game being "dead" because of Tom Henderson's article claiming that the game would be canned after Season 3. Any community manager would ignore "dead game talk" if it wasn't coming from the community, but Tom Henderson can't be ignored. The game is not in a healthy state, but every live service seems to launch in an MVP state. People said Fallout 76 was "totally Joever" too but we all know live service games live and die by their 2.0 updates after community feedback has been released. I hate that we are relegated to being beta testers but that is the current state of the industry. Chris needs to do more research if he's supposed to be the "live service guy" of the crew.

What bothers me more is the overexposure of Horizon, isn't there an MMO, a multiplayer game and a Horizon show all planned? That's ridiculous.
I guess these remasters make money, otherwise why would they do it?
I won’t hate on anyone upgrading to a Pro..
But personally $700 to play PS4 games to the level that PS5 originally promised is a no-go for me. Not even seeing the kinds of upgrades the One X offered last gen on 360 games is wild to me.
I’d much rather spend my $700 on more stocks/investments or wait for the Switch 2
For 400 million and possibly another 150 million for the Firewalk acquisition, Sony could have invested in 2-3 AAA games or another studio acquisition (Falcon Games, Ember Labs, Shift Up or Level 5 Studios) that would have benefited them greatly.
Concords issues were that they were 8 years late to the hero shooter scene. The character designs were boring and visually unappealing. The dialogue was very bad and there is an obvious woke atmosphere around it. If Sony's going to go for another Gaas title, it should be Warhawk, Socom or Little Big Planet.
Sony spent 200 million, the studio had already spent 200 million when they were bought. Still a crazy amount, but Sony didn't spend the full 400 million.

Level 5 should’ve been acquired a LONG TIME AGO. I absolutely adore their games. Now that they’re working with Nintendo, I don’t think they even need to release on PlayStation because Sony has abandoned the Japanese customer base. They changed their whole corporate image once they moved to California… I don’t think the majority of Japanese gamers are excited for The Last of Us or Horizon games. The man who killed Japan Studio is now co-CEO of SIE, that’s saying something.

Listening to Chris talk about Mass Effect has been incredible. I played that serious for the first time in January this year. One of the all time greatest trilogies ever made hands down. I loved 1 the most then 3 then 2, but that's because I was frustrated with removal of RPG elements and the way that 3 eventually felt to play. It's SOOOO good. So cool for him to be hitting this series so hard.
Kai Leng is awful though, and they ruined the Illusive Man/Cerberus.

Darksiders 2 is phenomenal, anyone who has never played it must play the PS5 version that's coming out. It was one of my very favorite games of the PS3 era. It has an extremely creative and dark world. Does a great job of giving a somewhat open world feel, yet it has a great Zelda feel to it also. Has some fantastic dungeon environments with great puzzles. And solid combat with a good loot system
Still one of my favorite game scores as well.
The first one is the best and actually feels like a Zelda game way more than the second one. The second one is more of a loot game and fantasy rpg.
With that said it's still good but the series goes 1 ==> 3 => 2
One thing you have to understand about Lethal Company. It's made by 1 guy so of course it can't get updates all that fast. Not that guy's fault he is only one person.

There will be no lifecycles anymore. Userbase will be 50% PS4, 35% PS5, 1 5% PS6. And apart from some minor fluctuations it's going to be that way for a long long time. These will simply be your low tier, mid tier, high tier systems basically.
Comparing the PS5 to the PS3 is insane. The PS3 was able to play games from all previous gens. It was the cheapest bluray player. It was the first time we had digital games, HDD, Wireless controllers/headsets, wireless/wired network cards. It could play music, video, transfer save data, stream. Everything justified the price tag because compared to previous gens it was only one capable of doing those things. The damn console required an LCD TV if you wanted to read the menus and most people don't even know what this means.
What does the PS5 pro does that the PS5 can't do? Play discs? Oh sorry...Run games at 60fps? Yeah...not guaranteed. I don't care if they manufacture 3 units and yell "it's soldout, it's too popular guys". I want to see comparisons to the base PS5, PS4 and specially the PS4 pro.

This whole talk about how the PS5 pro can be expensive as it wants to be because its only an upgrade and not the PS6, is annoying to me. The PS6 is NEVER going to be cheaper than the PS5 Pro. The price of the Pro is indicative of where we are going with prices.
I'm not going to buy the Pro because theres no way in hell that is worth it to me. But I WILL want the PS6. I wish there was actual pushback on the Pro because it might send a message to Sony about how far they can push these prices, but Colin is right. This thing will sell out, the PS6 will be even ore expensive and it will sell out too and we all just keep spending more and more, and one by one each of us gets priced out of our hobby.
I'm just going to jump to PC. No way am I going to spend 7-800$ for a digital only console on a closed platform.

It's been a while now, but it's still kinda shocking to me how much of a disaster Concord was when its biggest sin was effectively just being astonishingly bland.

Sounds to me like Connie and Jim Ryan bet heavily on concord for some damn reason. Perhaps we will never know. Seems like they were looking for their live service cash cow and when they dropped another 200 million and started getting some none internal data with focus groups and what not last summer or so, top people for Sony proper axed Connie and Jim.
I think that’s why these other live service games were cancelled and why concord was released. They were able take 3 or 4 live service games that equaled about 400 to 500 million and wrote it off to make up for this game. I assume they knew it would bomb and that’s why they made it a one time pay with no micro transactions but it fell far below what was even expected.
This will hopefully teach Sony to get out of the live service games. Give fair games a chance. And horizon a chance but unless those are huge step away.

I’m in the minority I guess.. I love the look of the PS5. I’m partial to white & black color combos in anything.. it looks great on my entertainment center and matches my white and black record player and my Switch OLED. Not a fan of the newer models with the black stripes but I don’t hate the overall design of the 5.

The problem with a PS5 portable is that in order to get that much power, Sony would most likely have to use a ARM chip instead of an X86 processor which would be a big learning curve for Sony at its studios.

Looking at concord, it's obvious they had a toxic positivity problem. I struggle to understand how professionals looked at everything here, such as the characters, and said "yeah that looks great!"

Choc top, is an icecream cone with a dome choc covering over the icecream to top of cone, cone is also one of those smaller round ones that is not pointy, flat on bottom.

I haven't seen a movie in the theater in years, but when I did, I must humbly say I was pretty great at sneaking food in. My friends and I used to make it a personal challenge to one up ourselves each time. We went from sneaking in burgers and fries, to hoagies, to eventually working ourselves all the way up to a massive Sicilian pizza with 20+ thick slices. We did it in the winter so we had hoodies on and we stuffed all the slices in tupperware, stuck it in the hoodies, and then slung it over our shoulders when we walked into the theater, and the containers were too big to fall out of the hooded part. And we were in a line of people so it's not like they took time to fully check everyone anyway. Not sure how much bigger I could ever go than that. Making sneaking in a full course BBQ meal or something, but for now, I think I'm retired on this front. Maybe one day I'll do one last run for old time's sake.

Lastly, I thought Horizon Zero Dawn was great from the first trailer. But I think Aloy's personality is muted and atypical as a function of the world she exists in and her isolation from the tribe. It seems like people want her to have the personality of a character who grew up in our world and not hers.
The best movie theater snack is popcorn with either nestle crunch bites or goobers. Once you get halfway through you pour the chocolate into the bag and mix it up. Noisy? Maybe. Worth it? Yes.

There is one type of dev. These devs have glowing resume. They know a lot and very talented. Lots of Ego. They are very difficult to work with and always argue with people about big and small anything. As a result they are not able to deliver anything. But they always talk about how things should be if they were in charge. But they avoid taking initiative. Devs coming from Bungie lineage like Firewalk always gave me with this impression.

Colin I’m in a similar boat with the weed. I’d suggest just cutting down intake for a bit and see if it has any effect. For me if I smoke every day multiple times a day I actually get even more anxious and depressed.
Holy hell, the SS boys are uninformed about xDefiant, Mark Rubin had to address the game being "dead" because of Tom Henderson's article claiming that the game would be canned after Season 3. Any community manager would ignore "dead game talk" if it wasn't coming from the community, but Tom Henderson can't be ignored.
The game is not in a healthy state, but every live service seems to launch in an MVP state. People said Fallout 76 was "totally Joever" too but we all know live service games live and die by their 2.0 updates after community feedback has been released. I hate that we are relegated to being beta testers but that is the current state of the industry. Chris needs to do more research if he's supposed to be the "live service guy" of the crew.

Not happy the Concord devs failed. But, happy that now we hopefully can put this live service / pvp clone push behind us all.
