    You’re smashing it Shade! Inspired me to try tiling for the first time this weekend and it went so well!
    Always been told it’s worth filling the bath up before applying silicone around the edge so that no gaps appear between the bath and silicone when the water weighs it down 😊 this helped after we had re done ours and water still came through!

    In total awe, goddess of DIY. I had huge issues with bath seal leaking, turned out the bath was cheap and flexed a lot, so sealed when empty but as soon as we stepped in to shower, it broke the seal and leaked again. Needed to fill the bath before applying sealant and that worked. Also, I keep seeing Bicarb and vinegar being lauded as a super cleaning mixture but Nancy Birtwhistle (she of green cleaning and bake off fame) explains the acidity of the vinegar cancels out the alkaline of the bicarb, and the fizz is just that happening; she says both are excellent on their own but not to use together 🧐
    So pleased you got your new home and cannot wait to see the transform happening ❤

      Ooh good to know! Thanks for that! Will do a bit more research into the bicarbonate stuff! Xx

    Welcome to homeowner ship. Are there shut off valves under the sinks, all of the sinks? You may want to get quart of kilz paint for water stains and moisture. Use 1 cup of bleach into one gallon of water for cleaning mold with mask depending on the severity. Hopefully, mold remidation is not needed. Mold releases mold spores in air, which can cause mold growth. Always check for dampness in places where there is water. Good job!

    Bath sealant and sealing in general has never been my strong point 🤣🤣 Ours needs re doing so I'm totally going to use your method of soapy water. My silicone finish is shocking 🤣 glad you got to the bottom of the leak 🙌 and yayyyy for water working

    Hello Shade. I just love your channel. I started watching you when you did the small black bathroom. I’ve been hooked ever since. Congratulations on your new home. I can’t wait to see you put your magical touch on it. A small tip. If you want a quick mold remover put bleach and water in a spray bottle and it will do the trick.

    Amazing! I find these things very stressful and messy/gross having had so many plumbing issues over the years. It usually is just the sealant has worn out over time (or not done right the first time!). Well done on dealing with all that on your own!

    We had the same prob with our bath, but new silicone and edging soon sorted it out 😁. Will filled our bath with water though until silicone was dry.

    You're amazing the way you just deal with everything so calmly, where I would be running round like a headless chicken. Fortunately, husband is good at all diy and since we moved up to the Newcastle area in the summer, we may not know where supermarkets and shopping centres are, but we know every diy store in the area and we're probably on the Christmas card lists of some. 😀 Looking forward to the next vlog!

    Hello Shade just came across you channel and have now subbed. I was watching your video from a few months ago, Loo transformation PT1 and PT2 and in that video you bought some o-rings which you might find are the same size as the o-ring on flexi tap connectors in this video. I would suggest that if you have a leak from there its going to be more than likely the o-ring thats failed and letting water by. If you turn the water off at the isolation valves under the sink undo the flexi tails from the 90 degree mail irons, undo the tap clamp you can remove the tap undo the flexi tail and swap the o-ring out for a new one I'd recommend using some silicone grease to stop the o-ring from tearing when you reinstall the flexi tail though (which you should be able to get from screwfix, B&Q etc) this would mean you dont have to buy a new flexi tail/hose for the sink tap

      This is fab. Thanks so much Ross. I’m learning slowly when it comes to plumbing. Our en-suite shower doesn’t get hot so that’s the next thing to fix 😅

    • @rossl2544
      @rossl2544 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ShadeShannon no worries at all. If your wanting to do it right then the washing machine cold water supply should have a single check valve on it before the isolation valve to stop water from the washing machine being drawn back into the main water supply but many old homes don't have this.

    I would love to know what you did with the shower screen water issue. We get the exact same problem with our shower, everything else is sealed but we get a bit of a leak because of the shower screen which is causing a bit of water to come through to the floorboards sometimes.

    Some advice for the future when sealing a bath. always fill the bath with water and leave overnight to set. If you seal in the bath empty when you fill the bath ..bath drops the seal cracks

  • @carliem9494
    @carliem9494 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Always a good idea to fill the bath with water before applying sealant ..... weighs the bath down properly
    And why do shower screen always leak in the bottom corner? You think manufacturers would’ve solved that problem by now! 😄

    • @ShadeShannon
      @ShadeShannon  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great shout! You’d think there’d be a super easy fix 😂

    • @ianjeffery3762
      @ianjeffery3762 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep, agree. You want to seal when the bath is full and heavy else next time the bath is full of water it will pull away from the sealant

  • @jimburnside9196
    @jimburnside9196 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    When your sealing the bath you should have it full of water, remember the bath has still to take ur weight AND a full tub of water ..that will break your silicone seal around it as bath sink a little.

    I cannot tell you how much I hate doing silicone! Astonish mould and mildew spray (cheap) is really good if you find any more mould. Be warned- open your windows and wear old clothes as it will bleach them.
