Her voice was impressive and evolving, it's such a damn shame! That being said, I'm gonna be a bit of a naysayer in saying that I actually don't think Dreaming of You properly displayed her true vocal talent and perhaps they should've chosen a different song for her crossover, perhaps one of the disco songs she liked to sing in medley or, because she really liked the More than Words song, a cover of that.
Rosa Pittman I actually think DOY displayed some of what she could do; you have her singing in a soft voice the first half showcasing her low and mid register, then the bridge she harmonized beautifully her vocals and when the climax cames her vocals are powerful and high with her belting in her upper register and she sustains the long last note at the end. She was sick while recording it so I think it came out amazing. However I don't think there's a song when she displayed all of what she could do A Boy Like That it's the closest and she recorded like two days before DOY so she was also sick. It's really frustrating
The enjoyed elevating the music by mixing genres and sounds and Selena was probably going to push her vocals to a higher level for the English album cuz English music in the u.s is alot about what notes you hit, especially in the 90s. I think the songs they were able to record were safe songs and they do showcase her rich tone but I think she would have created something uniquely Selena yet innovative and fresh in the studio if she was able to continue her career. We didn't get to see her English album as she may have imagined but we have some great material to imagine what could have been.

great visual, I love Selena 💕 her lows are amazing and connected a bit breathy but I believe she's a soprano. her upper chest is amazing as well and she has a great head voice!
Selena had great vocal range but I think they deliberately tried to write songs where her vocal range would go so far bc they wanted uniqueness not copycat so to speak. I think had she lived to really get to that place she was trying to get to she probably would've used her vocal chops more but we will never know. We can only speculate. Either way though Selena had great vocals and thank God she came our way at all bc look at how many talented gifted Latin Artists came our way bc of Selena. We must be grateful. Rip angel.💝
